Scott Embry’s Sunday Geraldton Preview Posted on March 15, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 DREAM BROOK resumed for Michael Grantham over 1100m at Ascot when getting a long way back and working to the line impressively behind Bondi Plunge. Goes straight out to 1400m and travels up to Geraldton into a country maiden. Looks a good set up for the filly to break through. ZERO DAWN lead them two starts ago and was still kicking with 100m to go. Went back last start and was held up at stages. Keep safe. SHOULDER PATCH is first-up at 1400m and the recent trials at Lark Hill under a junior rider suggest he’ll be right there in the finish. AUSSIE EURO has turned a corner. He was showing nothing until Troy Turner went on three starts back and now he’s going alright. Numbers: 8 – 2 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – DREAM BROOK WIN RACE 2 GOLD VANCOUVER resumed down the 1000m straight at Pinjarra and was doing her best work late behind the leader and winner Close Talker. Then went to a 3 year old 0MWLY and was well supported in betting before finishing seventh beaten 4L by Diablo Lad (races Saturday at Ascot). Visors on, back to 1100m and back to a country maiden dropping 1.5kg in weight. Looks a great set up for her. DISCUSS was a big black book run on debut and should only improve. LIBERTY DAME has had 10 cracks at it and run second on four occasions. She’s got ability but can’t draw a gate or find a map. ANTIQUE QUEEN has shown glimpses at trials. Numbers: 9 – 11 – 5 – 12 Suggested Bet – GOLD VANCOUVER WIN RACE 3 DIVINE INANNA looks an ideal 4kg claiming apprentice type. She jumps, she runs and she should be in front for a long way here. After the 4kg claim she carries the same weight in a Country C1 as she did last start in a provincial C1. Looks the easiest race she has seen in quite a long time. LUCKEE FLORAN has been hard to catch (and hard to ride at times) but he’s got a motor. Great effort behind Well Played last start. QUEEN TIFFANY was through the same event and beat him home. Barrier hurts. FINE LINE was much better last start and now Troy Turner jumps on. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 7 – 11 Suggested Bet – DIVINE INANNA WIN RACE 4 SLUICE BOX looks to have found a great race to return to the winner’s circle. This is a re-handicapped c69+ in which only 4 of the 11 runners are inside the handicap. He’s coming out of an Esperance Cup when only 1.5L off Manavendra and he’s been to Geraldton and run well previously. Like this set up for him. HONORFIC is two from two undefeated at the Geraldton 1900 and he can overcome his wide barrier by sustaining a run from a fair way out. STAADEN has been getting better and better into the campaign and now has a senior rider engaged. UNI QUEEN can lead and give a big sight. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – SLUICE BOX WIN RACE 5 BONDI’S FUTURE broke maiden status at Geraldton first-up and then went to a C1 at Belmont when sitting wide throughout behind subsequent winner Boab Boy. Last start he ran into Our Rocky Bay (now a C3 winner and races in the JC Roberts Saturday) and was only beaten narrowly after having to wait to make his run at them. Great chance to bounce back. JURUENA GOLD found the line well over what looked an unsuitable 1200 fresh. THE SLAP has ability but first time 1400m and 61kg is an ask. FUEL THE i30 finished off well late at York and is better suited out in trip. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 1 – 13 Suggested Bet – BONDI’S FUTURE WIN RACE 6 MOMBASA hasn’t run a bad race since arriving in Geraldton and finding a new home with Tony Scally. He has had 8 starts at the GTC for 2 wins and 5 minors, and importantly both of his wins are at the mile. Trusting that he can overcome the minor set back between outings and prove hard to hold out here. NEVER SOBER was crunched in betting on Esperance Cup Day but had absolutely no peace at any stage out in front. This is another nice 58+ for him and the Chanel Cooper claim brings him right down in the weights. SET THE SCENE gets Tash Faithfull back. HYMNS OF ELADDAIR hasn’t had much go his way this prep. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – MOMBASA WIN RACE 7 SUPERSESSION is looking to add a Batavia Sprint to his victories in the Fitzpatrick Plate and Mt Barker Sprint. In between he has been to a 72+ 1400 at Pinjarra where he settled rearward and sustained a big run into fifth. He’s flying, he’s classy and he’s got a big turn of foot. He’s more than capable of winning his third $125,000 country sprint. DREAM TO ME is 6 from 7 at her home track and while he’s drawn wide she’ll appreciate getting down to 55kg. SUNNY HONEY has likely been aimed at this race for a while and isn’t going too bad. BOMBAY STYLE gets weight on all the locals for beating them home recently in 70+s. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet – SUPERSESSION WIN RACE 8 TYCOON DEMON was over a month between runs last start and was carrying 61.5kg from barrier 12 of 12. It didn’t stop the punters from backing him into outright favourite and while this is a step up he finally gets some weight relief, he finally draws a barrier and he’s off a more traditional fortnight gap between runs. Hard to argue with what he’s produced in his first campaign of racing. MAGNIFICENT CARAT is well placed into this and from the draw she’ll get every chance. SAUVEGARDE has hit a purple patch and is being ridden for pure speed. SIGNIFICANT HERO is always a threat when he sneaks back into a 58+. Numbers: 5 – 6 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – TYCOON DEMON WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 3 1,3,4,6,7,12 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,9 1,3,5,6,7 Market Market
