Scott Embry’s Sunday Bunbury Preview Posted on July 4, 2025July 4, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 TOBAIN had poor form in the Great Southern at Albany but since returning to the provincial area has really improved. Finished third behind Cheeto and Asphalt three back, fourth behind Sweet Surrender and Royal Trooper two back and most recently finished within a half head of Queen Aria. Looks like he’ll stay and this is a thin race. AHH CHOUX goes from 1400 to 1600 to 2000 and should do no work from the barrier. CHOICE ATTRACTION showed something two back behind Ah Kum but nothing last start. BEGAAFD should roll to the top. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet – TOBAIN WIN RACE 2 BUDERIM beat home Rock The Market in a recent trial and with that filly running well on Wednesday behind Return Of The Mach it looks a strong enough reference to suggest that the Michael Campbell trained 3 year old will take beating on debut. This is quite a thin maiden in terms of depth and quality so a nice starting point for him. SCENIC WINGS ran well down the 1000m straight at Pinjarra and should hold a spot close handy from the draw. CROWS was a further 2L being The Mighty Belle. Might appreciate further. MISS VALMALENCO gest a big rider change. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – BUDERIM WIN RACE 3 ASPHALT looks like he’ll go around odds on. He ran a narrow second to Cheeto two back (beating home Tobian who goes around in Race 1) and then went to a Westspeed Platinum on a Saturday when jumping single figures and only being run down in the last 150m by Master Tactician. Back to maiden grade and lands a very weak race. SECRET INTENT looks the danger off the back of a solid fresh run behind a nice filly in Magical Sequence. COUSIN MORTIMER continues to grind his way to the line. Can he hold a better spot from barrier 1? NEW HYMN SHEET has been kept safe by the market but shown nothing race day. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 1 – 8 Suggested Bet – ASPHALT WIN RACE 4 SURROUND ME is not one of Grant & Alana Williams’ best but she’s likely to be given every possible hope here first-up from an inside draw. First trial this preparation was in a 0 – 71 (not a maiden trial) and she more than held her own behind Diamond Dancer. LADY MAYFLOWER has been much better since the blinkers went on with back to back placings behind Aphrodite Magic and Setagaya. CHAMPAGNE CATHAY ran some handy races last preparation at Bunbury and comes through the Buderim trial. LEMMOR was the target of good backing first-up. Numbers: 9 – 5 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – SURROUND ME WIN RACE 5 TOP OF THE WALK finally broke through at start number 15 and then was thrown into a 60+ Graduation. Not a bad effort all things considered – only 3.5L off En Plein Air and now comes back into his ‘correct’ grade. Has been a hard horse to trust because he tends to loom into races and not finish off but Brent Larsson has him going well and 1100m seems to be his sweet spot. A LOT OF ROSES made an impression in her maiden win down the straight and then ran second to Rocking Gem in a 0MWLY. PINGERS goes from a 3kg claimer to Pike. PLAYFUL STAR trialled up well for her return to racing. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 6 – 4 Suggested Bet – TOP OF THE WALK WIN RACE 6 SANTANOVA showed a good turn of foot when presented last start in her C3 1200m win and this race doesn’t look to have that much additional depth to it for a C5. She should be able to slide forward underneath Simple Logic/King Cartel and overcome her tricky barrier on paper. Filly on the rise. ESTIMATOR had to go way too hard early to cross them from a wide draw. He’s got a far more forgiving barrier/map here second-up and had trialled well leading into this return. ZOUBOLTZ is always thereabouts and chased hard behind Haida Gwaii. DUKE OF WELLINGTON is going super. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 8 – 11 Suggested Bet – SANTANOVA WIN RACE 7 BUCKETS RIDGE looks really well suited third-up in the SW Cup. First-up at WFA over 1600m he beat half the field home in the Hyperion behind Western Empire and Magnificent Andy and then second-up at 2000m he was cutting his way through late to finish second behind Admiration Express. WFA to SWP sees him drop 1.5kg and he should be fully fit now. SIMPLY also gets out to 2200m third-up and has clearly returned in good order, however, he’s only got 2.5kg on Buckets Ridge. m99 vs m81 – would be 9kg in a handicap. GINGER BAKER gives 110% but is a query at the trip. RIVER RUBICON is yet to win past 1400. Numbers: 4 – 8 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – BUCKETS RIDGE WIN RACE 8 MASTER TACTICIAN is a last start Westspeed Platinum winner this track/distance and is loves the wet tracks. More it rains the better for him and provided they’re making ground down the centre he’ll be winding up hard late. OISIN looked to have that race wrapped up last start before My Idol burst through over the last 50m and knocked him off. He’s now finished second at his last three outings so it’s time to shake the ‘bridesmaid tag’. MR TALENTINO resumed in a 1400m where they went 9L faster than average. Super return from a staying type. VANCOUVER STORM was jumping out of the ground to score last start. Numbers: 7 – 2 – 10 – 8 Suggested Bet – MASTER TACTICIAN WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 2,3,4,6 2,5,8 4,8 2,7,10 Market Market
