Scott Embry’s Sunday Ascot Preview Posted on March 10, 2023March 10, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SHE’S IMMINENT went into every Blackbook in the State on debut when charging home through heavy traffic in a slick effort behind talented filly Amber Glide. She then went around odds on at her second career outing and never saw daylight at any stage. Willing to forgive, forget and follow-up. NOTEWORTHY was stiff not to break through at her return to racing. Held tight and bumped on straightening and then finished off well late in the race. YONGA LASS ran home nicely on debut behind Ultimate Style. Can settle much closer from a more favourable draw. CABLE GIRL was well supported at odds on debut and ran a cheeky race into fourth. Numbers: 11 – 8 – 10 – 9 Suggested Bet – SHE’S IMMINENT WIN RACE 2 GUARD THE SAFE finished second to Hola Marea over 1200m before breaking through and winning a C3 1400m at Ascot two starts ago. Held his own behind Romancing The Rock and Magnificent Andy in a form race which is very much on display on Saturday (also Mack Mack’s race). Drops back to a C3, proven weight carrier and can park up behind speedy filly Beach West or kick through to hold up. PRO LATTE looms as an ominous danger. Got the job done in style to break her maiden at start number two and looks like she’ll only improve with racing. WUNDERKIND is accepted for Saturday in the Westspeed Platinum. Top 4 chance if they scratch and come here. BEACH WEST gets out to 1400m and parks on speed. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 10 – 3 Suggested Bet – GUARD THE SAFE WIN RACE 3 HEAR MY PRAYER finished only 1L off Divine Inanna and Spirit Man second-up and then went to the 3 year old Magic Millions when racing against better quality of opposition than he meets here. Should be able to sit just in behind the speed and enjoys the run of the race. MOCHA DREAM was 5 weeks between runs when this race was postponed on 2nd March, 6 weeks between runs when the race was postponed on 8th March and is now 6.5 weeks between runs since beating up on moderate opposition at Geraldton. Take on trust. SILVER BUGG has shades re-attached and runs for Troy Turner. JUSTAMIDDY is knocking on the door and the scratching of Schuhbeck is one less to get around early. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 10 – 1 Suggested Bet – HEAR MY PRAYER WIN RACE 4 FLOWER IN THE WIND was stiff not to win first-up when knocked around in the home straight unable to secure clear running at any stage. That form through Romancing The Rock, Magnificent Andy, Mack Mack and Guard The Safe will garner a lot of attention over the 24 hour period leading into Race 4 on Sunday and she looks to get the right run midfield with cover. GREAT HEIST can park up leader’s back here following Rommel’s Jeuney and Jay Dee. From there he’s a live player after putting the writing on the wall behind Garage Days in an on speed dominated affair at Pinjarra where he sustained a big run from a long way out. Looks a winnable race for him. KIA ORA JEWEL gains the services of William Pike and has been rattling off improving L600 sections each run this campaign. She’s ready. BANDALERA BEAU next best. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – FLOWER IN THE WIND WIN RACE 5 AMBER GLIDE is likely to end up three back the fence which is an awkward spot at Ascot. She’s clearly got above average ability and a powerful finishing sprint on her, but she’ll need some luck and some room to move at stages in the race. Loved the dominance of her debut win and think she’s a filly with plenty of upside. STARRING KNIGHT beat home La Dette when they met in the Deetea race first-up. Last start settled in a different postcode to the leaders in a race where they were absolutely walking the first 800 (17L slower than average). Actually did a good job to beat a couple home. LA DETTE is a month between runs but her maiden win has produced Too Dardy and Sizzle Me Patrick. DIAMOND ROCKS can roll to the top in this. Handy filly. Good race. Numbers: 6 – 4 – 8 – 7 Suggested Bet – AMBER GLIDE WIN RACE 6 SPIRIT MAN comes out of 3 year old 0MWLY races and carries almost the same weight in a C1. He has blinkers added to his race gear for the first time in his life and he has the tactical speed to position up behind the leader. If that leader is King’s Flirt she’s the perfect horse to follow in transit and from there he looks hard to hold out. KING’S FLIRT burst onto the scene with a 6.5L victory. Was a bit stirred up pre-race and then was slowly into stride. From there she had to be fired up to get to the top and faded badly in the home straight. PLAYTHATFUNKYMUSIC can’t quite find the right race at the moment but is going well enough. DRAGONFLIES is now an 8-year-old 18 start maiden. Deserves one (eventually). Numbers: 2 – 7 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet – SPIRIT MAN WIN RACE 7 COCOON BAY looks like another great opportunity for the Shaun McGruddy/Steve Wolfe partnership. Last 90 days the combination have teamed up with 66 runners for 17 winners at 25.8% strike rate and 40.2% POT. They are absolutely flying and this filly is extremely well placed. She won in a deadheat after being completely luckless at her return to racing, finished less than 2L off Village Girl in a 3 year old 0MWLY with 57.5kg and now drops half a kilo into a C1 mile. Drawn to get every chance and looks hard to hold out late. VONSNIP continues to run good races. Her last two have been sit and sprint affairs and she’s almost pinched both. RUSTY SPIRIT has come back to racing in excellent order. Coming through the same races as Vonsnip and there’s little between the pair. WICKED FOX was benefited by the hot cutaway rail last start. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 9 – 7 Suggested Bet – COCOON BAY WIN RACE 8 ADMIRATION EXPRESS could not have been more impressive in winning the Ascot 1000 Guineas. She meets all the beaten brigade at the exact same weights at SWP and provided she runs out a strong 2200m then she should complete the 1000 Guineas-Natasha Stakes double as Constant Dreaming did in 2022. LINDEN LADY is the one who I think can stretch her neck late. She was held up for even longer than She’s Fit was in the 1000 Guineas and was never able to get into clear galloping room and show her turn of foot. Better draw, Pike on, think she’ll make her presence felt. SHE’S FIT was an outstanding WA Oaks trial when pushing through into the clear and savaging the line. She’s got X-Factor. FULL OF MERIT is only at start number three. If they allow her to lead and dictate, she can give cheek. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 8 – 9 Suggested Bet – ADMIRATION EXPRESS WIN RACE 9 PLAYHOUSE PATRON was the eye-catching run into third in the Lex Piper Stakes. DEMOLISH did a mountain of work out three deep without cover. ALASKALOT pinched an ugly C1 that was run 12L slower than average on a rail out mid-weeker, a race in which SPECIAL SORT and AXEMAN’S JAZZ were completely unsuited. PLANET CASH has missed the run since beating the older horses a month ago. FLY AWAY HOME looked unsuited without cover in the Piper. ANOTHER CHINO relished a hot speed last start to stamp himself a live player. Long story short – this is a very open race and I’m going to side up with DEMOLISH because I think he can come out underneath Lord Randolph and look to take it up. Lottery the minors. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 8 – 1 Suggested Bet – DEMOLISH WIN RACE 10 HONEY DEW was enormous last start. The pattern was completely against her and she did a super job to get within three quarters of George Gently late. It was a 7 race program and George was the sixth horse to win who drew barrier 1, 2 or 3 and sat leader’s back or three back the fence before winning up the cutaway. She savaged the line and is clearly ready to win. QUEENSHIP has the bar plates coming off, drops from a C5 into a C3 and retains the services of W.Pike. Fair few ticks. SABINO is drawn to settle in an ideal spot in running. He’s been a model of consistency since arriving in WA. CHOICE BID is rarely far from the winner but at the same time is rarely in the winner’s stall himself. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 8 – 5 Suggested Bet – HONEY DEW WIN Quaddie (Race 7 – 10) 4,5,9 1,4,8 1,2,3,4,5,8,11,14,16 2,5,6,8 Market Market
