Scott Embry’s Sunday Albany Preview Posted on January 13, 2024January 13, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 LIGHTNING GOLD found the line well first-up behind Torpedoman. It was a race dominated on speed and a maiden where they stopped the clock 3L faster than average. Second-up gets an extra 100m and Pike – a pair of obvious ticks. PLATINUM SHOT lead them up first-up over over 1211m which probably stretches her and was gunned down late, however, there have already been two winners out of that race within the last 24 days in My Jimmy and Khutos. Rides the speed and should improve again with the run under her belt. DANCIN’ DEVIL trialled well for her return to racing and maps kindly from barrier 2. POWER RED returns from a long layoff. Numbers: 2 – 10 – 6 – 4 Suggested Bet – LIGHTNING GOLD WIN RACE 2 MIRO looks like he wants ground. Trialled over 1450m behind Acting God and was put under the stick by CJP when one-batting to the line and then wasn’t disgraced on debut over 1300m when beaten 4L behind Memory Parade. King’s Call came out of that race and won at Pinjarra on Thursday and the step to 1500m here suits Miro. Better drawn and better suited than first-up. MANHATTAN JEWEL was able to hold leader’s back last start and tried hard to reel in leader and eventual winner Khutos. She can charge forward from her wide gate. NANARUP has caught the eye a few times now in a short career. PUNTERS PILOT was good first-up but has a really tough draw to navigate. Numbers: 10 – 14 – 8 – 7 Suggested Bet – MIRO WIN RACE 3 LUCKY LANDING transfers from one in form yard to another (Michael Lane to Rebecca Bayliss) and after the claim of Cassey Martinin looks hard to beat. He should either lead or box seat and from there he goes close in a race of this nature. Been knocking on the door all campaign including running second to Millivoy in a 58+ only two starts ago. MISSILE STORM joins Adam Durrant’s yard and it’s easy to make the case that his C1 Belmont Form is stronger than all the C2 form out of Albany. Keep very safe with Pike and blinkers on. PENNED can be forgiven for one poor performance. ROCKARIA continues to attack the line hard. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – LUCKY LANDING WIN RACE 4 QUEEN NARDI looks the kind of horse who can continue her way through the country classes. She broke her maiden in style when plunged in betting and then backed it up with an effortless C2 win at Geraldton in handy time. Rises up 5.5kg here with Pike taking over but she’s got gears and she’s emerging as a handy filly. Hard to hold out late over the mile. LET HER BOOGIE went out to the staying trip last start and on face value just didn’t see out the distance. Prior effort when runner up to Rock Of Kaha is easily good enough to win this. YES OF COURSE and PRO IS HERE can take care of the speed and ensure a genuine tempo throughout. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet – QUEEN NARDI WIN RACE 5 DUCHEES DEMERIT finished 2L off Divine Mercy two starts back and now gets a 3.5kg weight to try and turn the tables. Probably would have preferred if this was a full 2200 but like the addition of Lucy Fiore to the saddle and like the fact he’s drawn to get a nice run into the race. Looks ready to peak. DIVINE MERCY has come of age this campaign and won his last two in style. He’ll box seat and has no excuses from there. No surprise to see him win again. FEELS DANISH finished second to him when they last met and gets 1.5kg to turn around a half length margin. Going super for new trainer Leanne Howlett. MANAVENDRA has shown glimpses this prep. Numbers: 4 – 7 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – DUCHEES DEMERIT EACHWAY RACE 6 I DREAMED A DREAM is brilliantly placed by Steve Wolfe. He is dropping out of a Saturday 3 year old Plate into a c58+ and he remarkably drops 1.5kg in weight. There’s no way that this is tougher than finishing 1.5L off King’s Parade and Rocket Juice so the fact he drops in weight and effectively in grade will surely attract a decent following from the punting public. Nice race for him. ANNIHILATOR and ROCK OF KAHA meet yet again and as we’ve seen over the last 12 months there’s not that much between the pair. Comes down to the runs they get and the speed of the race. ELITE FIGHTER didn’t get a run in the Fitzpatrick so they have to tackle this instead. He’s going really well. Numbers: 13 – 4 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – I DREAMED A DREAM WIN RACE 7 BENJI’S might be suited over further but double figures looks attractive. There’s an abundance of speed in this: Resonator/Oxbridge/Strathmore Rose/Halatorion/Beau Zoom all likely to put the foot down from various parts of the line in a charge early and Lucy Fiore just needs to keep him within striking distance to be a genuine threat at odds. Loved his Monday trial and his first-up run (albeit over 1400) in a 78+ at Ascot was a ripper behind Pompey. Worth consideration. SUPERSESSION does make sense. He’s lightly raced, he’s progressive, he’s on the 54.5kg minimum and he has William Pike. He’ll likely end up a fair way off them in the run but he’s got a big turn of foot. KOHLI won’t know himself with only 54.5kg. Huge return. RESONATOR has his first start in WA. Looks well credentialed for a Fitzpatrick Plate. Numbers: 2 – 15 – 12 – 1 Suggested Bet – BENJI’S EACHWAY RACE 8 HANG GLIDER looks the one in the lucky last on Fitzpatrick Plate Day. Steve Wolfe – Shaun McGruddy and a city class horse who heads down to Albany for the feature program in a moderate 58+. Everything looks ideal for him to unleash down the centre and win another race. Massive first-up when winning a 60+ in town at Ascot and since then hasn’t exactly had the rub of the green. Speed on and staying out of trouble midfield with cover. UNDER INFLUENCE likely concedes him a head start in running but he’s got a lot of point to point speed. BLUE LINE gets the run of the race and is consistently there abouts. HOT CHATTER looks like she’ll measure up at this level. Numbers: 3 – 9 – 1 – 12 Suggested Bet – HANG GLIDER WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 4,5,6,7,8 1,4,5,13,14 1,2,9,10,12,15 3,9 Market Market
