Scott Embry’s Saturday Belmont Preview Posted on May 28, 2020 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 TAJMALI comes to town after a great start to the Kalgoorlie season. Pike jumps aboard for her first metro race of the campaign and she should be able to slide across to sit just behind the speed pair Dew West and Cuballing. Her last start win was strong and she has shown she can carry weight before. Definite hope in an even 1000. LEICA JAGUAR continues to charge through the line. He likely settles second last in the small field but will get last crack. DEW WEST was scratched from a winnable race on Wednesday to save for this. Can lead or box seat from the draw. POISITON OF POWER was a great trial and should enjoy all the favours from the draw. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet – TAJMALI WIN RACE 2 CONDOR HEROES is four weeks between runs having been scratched with a hoof abscess recently. He is a winner on a Heavy9 and placed on a Heavy8 so one would imagine that he will jump, cross Fire and Rain and then roll along in his own race from there. If he reproduces his last start he should be saluting. SUPER MAXI hasn’t fired a single shot his last two preparations but wet track form is super (Heavy9 winner, placed twice Heavy8) and he should settle second in running chasing the favourite. GUNS OF NAVARONE and HOBOKEN have little between them and should round out the first four. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – CONDOR HEROES WIN RACE 3 DUNBAR was far from brilliant to the eye on debut when sent round at $1.24 and getting the job done by a half head but breaking the race down he still recorded the fastest final 200m and furlong split of both the race and the entire meeting. Should bounce the gates again and sit just behind the speed. No reason to knock him. CHANTORQUE will come out running. She was super impressive on debut when dropping a gear and dropping them. Speedy filly who should prove hard to run down. BORN TO RULE only comes out of 400m jump outs but looked professional at both. LONG MAY YOU RUN was no match for Chantorque on debut and with only 1kg difference he’ll need to improve to beat her home. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 9 – 2 Suggested Bet – DUNBAR WIN RACE 4 WINDSTORM will have the eyes of a punting nation on him as he returns to the races. Much like Showmanship last weekend he brings an element of intrigue and excitement to the meeting. His debut win was excellent and then his second career victory was phenomenal when letting down like a proper animal. First start back from injury and hitting a likely Heavy rated track could see him vulnerable but he looks all class. INDIAN PACIFIC would go round a similar quote to Windstorm in nearly any other 3 year old 1000 or 1200 after his super impressive trial. Jumps and runs and gives Windstorm something to catch. CAPTAIN KINK made Resortman work for his victory last time out. Again looks to bump into a couple of stars. MAROCCHINO next best. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – WINDSTORM WIN RACE 5 SHERPA LASS was a big drifter last time out when carrying a career high weight and just over 6 weeks between runs. She was tailed off turning for home and rattled to the line in a race which was run more than 3L faster than average. She draws a far better gate here and won on debut on a Soft7. She has won four from six and could open double figures in this. DOUBLE BUBBLE loves Belmont, loves it wet and loves being allowed to march in her races. From the inside Shaun McGruddy should be able to kick through underneath Tawny Pete and control the tempo. TAWNY PETE is no slouch and goes best kept fresh. MISS FROST faces far and away her toughest test to date. Seriously impressive mare but could be a fair way off some talented types. Excited to see how good she is. Numbers: 10 – 4 – 3 – 15 Suggested Bet – SHERPA LASS EACHWAY RACE 6 COSTA DEL SANTO is in a rich vein of form. His last to first victory at Pinjarra Park two starts ago on a Soft7 was electric and then he didn’t enjoy the best of luck when heavily commissioned last time out in a C3 when hitting the line full of running. Sure to get through the conditions and tracking up three deep with cover looks a nice spot for him. TOLLMAN is fool proof and seldom runs a bad race. From the gate he can take up a position and is well placed in this grade. PORPHYRIO is a noted wet tracker and is sure to appreciate some weight relief. FROSTY BEVERAGE has been good at his last two. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 8 – 11 Suggested Bet – COSTA DEL SANTO WIN RACE 7 GATES OF BABYLON has won three of his last five and continues to go from strength to strength. From the gate Pateman should bounce him out and if he can get a breather at any stage he’ll start making them chase. LORENTINIO is absolutely flying. Big query on the wet track but can’t knock any of his last five outings. FRIAR FOX should be sitting back and joining the three and four deep train from the 800. She excels fresh and trialled well enough. SHE’S ALIGHT will need a peach but Carbery is in form and so is the mare. Numbers: 11 – 12 – 6 – 16 Suggested Bet – GATES OF BABYLON EACHWAY RACE 8 THE VELVET KING resumed in the Roma Cup when tramping three deep outside Vega Magic and Durendal. He kept coming and posted a brave second. This race has very little speed outside his stablemate Abdicator, he is a winner on a Soft6 and Soft7 and Mitch Pateman is one of the best front running riders in the state. Should prove very hard to run down once he starts rolling through his gears at the 600. ANGELIC RULER was sensational from an impossible position in the Roma Cup. If she can hold a spot midfield she will fly late. GATTING is a super star and can not be discounted in any race. He was huge in an unsuitable race fresh and only gets better in the rain. TAXAGANO box seats and loves it wet. Numbers: 8 – 13 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet – THE VELVET KING WIN RACE 9 PICTURE PERFECT is a winner on a Soft6 and from the gate should settle in a near identical position to last week. From there she should be within striking distance and can pounce late. PETTICOAT JUNCTION was doing her best work late last week and was a good winner the last time she struck a Heavy track. Justin Warwick’s stayers off the back-up = cash and there is no reason she can’t win this. SAXON SAXOFF has very similar race conditions to his last start victory. Will continue to grind it out. RIVALRY GALORE has blinkers first time and his only win was this track and distance on a Soft7. Numbers: 6 – 14 – 8 – 5 Suggested Bet – PICTURE PERFECT WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,2,4,5,6,8,11 6,10,11,12,14,16 2,8,13 1,2,5,6,8,14 Market Market
