Scott Embry’s Monday Ascot Preview Posted on December 29, 2023December 29, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SINFUL LIVING was $4.60 into $1.80 last start and once she found the front it was game, set, match for rivals. She controlled the tempo, she relaxed under Rachel King and she was off and gone on straightening. Looks a similar set up here albeit with an additional 2kg to carry and a big weight swing to Street Band. OVERDRIVE was clearly the run of the race out of the beaten brigade. She gets an extra 100m here and was outstanding once finally getting some racing room late in the piece. STREET BAND meets Sinful Living 5kg better for being beaten 2.7L last start. FIGHTING THUNDER trialled well. Has Jarrad Noske jumped off Street Band to ride? Numbers: 1 – 4 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – SINFUL LIVING WIN RACE 2 GINNIVAN will look to jump and run and prove too quick for them over the 1000m. He is one of the quickest beginners going around and should have no troubles at all finding the fence. Over the 1000m at Ascot that’s position A and think he’ll take plenty of catching. They tried to sit him at trials, doubt they’ll ever try that on race day! ALL PLAY is a nice horse resuming. His midweek win was arrogant and then he wasn’t disgraced when only half a length off Generosity and Ripcord in a Saturday race. SHELL BELL is quick but can’t see her crossing Ginnivan which leaves her in the breeze outside him or just off him. Tougher from there. SIBERIAN SIREN can look to hold the inside behind Ginnivan in a similar set up to last start when winning. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet – GINNIVAN WIN RACE 3 BAYEZID, ART OF SABRAGE, SKY DUKE, HOSTILE TALK – they’re going to go very quick here over the short course. HOSTILE TALK only won a maiden on debut but boy was it impressive. He pulled clear to win by over 3L and he looked the kind of animal who would go even better in a faster run race against better opposition. Maiden to a 60+ Graduation, very few make that step first-up to second-up, but he looks pretty good. HANG GLIDER just needs to leave the gates cleanly to end up three back the fence in a fast run race and from there he’s a chance. BAYEZID is being ridden for pure speed and they’re reaping the rewards. ART OF SABRAGE trialled really well for his return and held his own in a 66+. Numbers: 7 – 5 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – HOSTILE TALK WIN RACE 4 EMPRESS OF INDIA was stiff in the Epona Classic when sixth beaten 2L behind Harmika, Stormy Tawny and Duchess Of Gossip. With even luck in the home straight she probably finishes right in and amongst that trio of 66+ mares and now she drops back into a 58+ Westspeed Platinum. She’s only won once and that was on debut as a 2 year so there’s always going to be a query hovering over her but she maps well and she’s finally start to put a few runs together in a campaign. FALCON TRADER may have needed the run first-up. He’s got a great winning strike rate and he can come on quickly second-up. DEAMBER hasn’t raced for 7 weeks since winning back to back races in this grade. Hard to knock. BONJOY is a nice mare for this grade. She just needs some luck from a poor draw. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – EMPRESS OF INDIA EACHWAY RACE 5 SECRET ATTRACTION should get a near identical run in transit to last start and from there logically she’s hard to beat. Rises 2kg but should bounce out and put herself into a position close handy to the speed. Blinkers went on last start and she really won with authority. Looks a genuine tempo for her to follow into the race and looks like a mare who can work her way through the lower grades. SAN FABRIZIO has been the target of support at every run since arriving in WA. He’s drawn to get the run he needs and it’s only a matter of time before he wins another. FLOWER IN THE WIND was a super return. She’s in for a good preparation. ALLMAMONEY could be a forgotten mare. She’s going along alright. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet – SECRET ATTRACTION WIN RACE 6 YONGA LASS and RUSTY DREAMS meet again over 1800m after their Starstruck Classic encounter. This looks another messy mares feature without any natural speed and so it might come down to which mare settles better over the distance. Ridden ice cold YONGA LASS has an electric turn of acceleration and with William Pike getting back on we’ll roll the dice on her to turn the tables. RUSTY DREAMS is a ripper. She’s almost won half a million dollars and she’s only a 4 year old mare. She could genuinely be a Railway Stakes contender this time next year if she continues to improve. Deserving favourite. MEGAMI is flying. She’s raced without luck since winning four starts back. GHOBELLA won well last week. Numbers: 8 – 2 – 6 – 4 Suggested Bet – YONGA LASS WIN RACE 7 REAL DANGER and GHOST WHO WALKS met in the Beaufine Stakes back at Belmont Park in July. On that occasion GHOST WHO WALKS got the better of REAL DANGER but coming into the Summer Scorcher there’s a 3kg weight swing in favour of REAL DANGER. Don’t think there’s much between them and on race day REAL DANGER should park and ride the speed. GHOST WHO WALKS trialled super. His run behind Hot Zed in the Colonel Reeves was outstanding and regardless of the 59kg and the wide barrier he’ll be hard to hold out. Gone to a new level. WILD BELLE is a real X-Factor in this race. Returns to WA and her best is very exciting. GEMMA’S SON also returns to WA and is a 1000m gun who flies fresh. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 10 – 4 Suggested Bet – REAL DANGER WIN RACE 8 CASINO SEVENTEEN looks to have a real sense of timing about him in the 2024 Perth Cup. He is dropping 6kg, he is coming out of the last two WFA features, he is meeting Numerian 6kg better at the weights from the Van Heemst, he is meeting Be Optimistic 5kg better at the weights from the AJ Scahill Cup, he has William Pike returning to the saddle, he’s drawn a gate and he won sixth-up last preparation. Last two runs have been excellent Perth Cup trials and he looks poised to strike. ZOUMON has blinkers going on, is proven at 2400m and can cross to the fence without Marocchino in the race. Don’t dismiss him off one ‘poor’ performance. BE OPTIMISTIC has come of age this campaign. Like the fact they’ve gone fresh into the Cup deliberately. NEUFBOSC doesn’t have the same zip about him anymore but in a genuine 2400m slog he’ll keep coming. Numbers: 7 – 2 – 4 – 12 Suggested Bet – CASINO SEVENTEEN WIN Same Race Multi – Casino Seventeen (Top 2) + Zoumon (Top 4) Casino Seventeen has been set for the Perth Cup for his entire preparation and it looks like the Grand Final timing is perfect. Drops 6kg from the Van Heemst Stakes down to the 53kg minimum in the Cup and William Pike returns from suspension at the ideal moment. He’s drawn to get a soft midfield run and present at the right time. Zoumon was below his best last start but has blinkers going on and can lead them up. In front for a long way. RACE 9 HANCHI is a really exciting youngster. He arguably should have beaten Oscar’s Fortune first-up in the Placid Ark Prelude, second-up he got a mile off them in a messily run Placid Ark and then third-up he charged through to storm to victory. Progressive. DUCHESS OF GOSSIP was brave last week with 59kg after tramping three deep throughout. She’s really classy. PLAYTHATFUNKYMUSIC was enormous last week. He was the only on speed runner left standing late with the other pace brigade beaten out of sight. 7 days later he can lead. BROOKLYN PIER gets the run he needs from the box seat in a high speed race. Numbers: 7 – 5 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – HANCHI WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 2,8 1,3,4,9,10 2,7 2,3,5,7 Market Market
