Scott Embry’s Sunday Bunbury Preview Posted on December 29, 2023December 29, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 VERRY TIMELY was bursting through nicely at Belmont Park trials when third behind Champeze. From barrier 1 Holly Watson likely enjoys a similar passage on race day and more importantly can be a pair closer than trials because it’s only a small field of six. Looks a competitive little race and she’s one of three or four winning chances. EXTREME LOVE trialled really well. Was put into the trial by CJP and then hit top gear and pulled away from them strongly. Has a barrier blanket, has a brow band so she’s probably a bit quirky but she’s got ability. DOCTOR JAY finished off well in a trial behind Angel Undercover. IRONCLAD BOY was a huge run on debut when motoring to the line. Numbers: 6 – 5 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – VERRY TIMELY WIN RACE 2 TORPEDOMAN looked to have the race all wrapped up last week before Bergamo gobbled him up in the shadows of the post. 1200m back to 1100m, drawn barrier 1 at Bunbury and has the speed to lead if Stevie Parnham wants to it up or has the turn of foot to push his way into the clear from leader’s back if he elects to hand up. Costly conveyance but he’s getting awfully close to breaking through. BRONTE’S DREAM looks the biggest danger and a legitimate threat. The second placing to Hostile Talk is excellent form with that undefeated youngster going straight to a 60+ Graduation on Cup Day. LIGHTNING GOLD ran second on debut at Pinjarra behind Bartime back in July when finding the line nicely after striking traffic. SPEEDY NOVA comes across. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – TORPEDOMAN WIN RACE 3 ANGEL’S MY NAME was game in defeat behind a handy type in Speak To Me. They’ve taken Speak To Me from a C1 to a Saturday race which shows the opinion they hold on that galloper and there’s no Speak To Mes in this event. Lucy Fiore should be able to lead, control and kick hard into the home corner. Hard to get past if she can pinch a cheap section or two midrace. NEEDS TIME has alternate country form through Geraldton. Did finish second to Albert four starts back and beat home Runforrob that day. RUNFORROB tries hard and is always there abouts. SCENIC STRIKE next best. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – ANGEL’S MY NAME WIN RACE 4 ONLY US is double accepted for Pinjarra Saturday and Bunbury on Sunday. Going to pop him on top in both races because I have no idea which race Boy Hill will elect to start him in. It’s a throw at the stumps for a horse stepping up considerably in distance but his recent runs haven’t been too bad over shorter, especially considering the quality of opposition he met there vs what he meets here. MR MEGSEY, PLAINLY SPOKEN and MANGANUI all ome through the same race behind Blazing Emerald last start. MR MEGSEY was held up at crucial stages. PLAINLY SPOKEN was doing his best late and through the line. MANGANUI only faded out late. Numbers: 7 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – ONLY US WIN RACE 5 HIT THE JACKPOT rises 5kg from his maiden win into a C1 with the senior rider going on. It’s a big ask to carry 60kg as a 3 year old at your fourth run but he’ll sit up on the pace and he’ll be in the firing line throughout. Looks a nice enough animal with a decent future ahead. Think the maiden form through On A Winning Day / Miss Esprit / Bird On A Wire is just as good as the Demito form from a C1. MRS KANGAROO might not have the class of stablemate Hit The Jackpot but she’s got a 7kg pull in the weights. TWIGGER has been solid in all three runs to start his career. DE LOVELY LAD looked to be travelling nicely but had nowhere to go in the Mrs Kangaroo/Twigger race. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet – HIT THE JACKPOT WIN RACE 6 THE LADY IS A VAMP should have a better winning record than she holds. She probably should have won at least one maybe two 60+ Graduation races at Ascot in early 2023 when she did a few things wrong, found traffic and was storming home late. Forget her previous campaign, fresh run was solid and now an in form Chris Parnham jumps on. Eachway price about an eachway type of mare. SHEZGOTTHALOT looks the one they all have to beat. Burst through impressively to win a C1 at her second run for Grant & Alana Williams and should only improve with racing. TREVERN is always there abouts in this grade and if he can hold out My Baby Blue Jean early he’ll take running down. MY BABY BLUE JEAN is quick. Numbers: 5 – 9 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – THE LADY IS A VAMP EACHWAY RACE 7 KHUTOS looks to have found his race. He resumed in a hot maiden that contained Justabittapress, subsequent winner Play Dice and Roundabout Glory when held up on straightening at a crucial stage and then finished third behind Play Dice and My Jimmy second-up. This is as weak a field as he’s likely to see in the provincial area and it looks his race to lose. MOLLY MAGEE could be the biggest danger on paper and she’s a 25 start maiden. Again got to the line nicely last start. OLLIE’S BARREL trialled like he would want ground. THE CANDY KID is also likely to get out over further. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – KHUTOS WIN RACE 8 NUNES has her first start for Ryan Hill and importantly comes back into a C3 for the first time in her campaign. Three starts back she finished fourth in a 0MWLY, two starts ago same spot in a C5 behind Material Witness and subsequent winner Hesket (who she meets 2.5kg better at the weights) and last start was wide throughout and is probably suspect at a mile. Back in grade, back in distance and drawn to get a soft run. Right race. HESKET can be forgiven for last start when nothing went right. Prior to that he won the Grandstand Cup and has been a model of consistency since arriving in WA. GALANCY can roll forward to find a spot. SERVICEMAN is looking a bit one paced at the minute. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 10 – 7 Suggested Bet – NUNES WIN Market Market
