Scales Of Justice All The Rage With Punters Posted on December 23, 2015December 23, 2015 | Posted by Julio Santarelli Trainer Lindsey Smith has five runners engaged at Ascot on Wednesday with punters identifying Scales Of Justice as the horse to beat in the Perth Racing Young Membership Plate (1100m). The talented Not A Single Doubt gelding is a raging $1.50 favourite with the TAB after a narrow second to star filly Perfect Reflection when first-up at Belmont Park in October. Perfect Reflection showed why she could be the next star of WA Racing after ending her maiden campaign undefeated when she scored a thrilling win over Delicacy in the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) on December 5. Smith says Scales Of Justice, who drops 4kg and is perfectly drawn in barrier four for jockey Paul Harvey, would be hard to beat. “He is a nice horse,” Smith said on Tabradio. “His work has always been good since I put a saddle on him. “Paul (Harvey) likes him and when he likes them they generally go to the races and are hard to beat.” Smith believes a step up in journey will suit a horse he has a high opinion of, In This Life in the Perth Racing Instagram Plate. The Super Saver filly meets a smart line-up that includes Who Dat Singa, Fremond, Royal Supreme and Indigo Ora. Who Dat Singa, who vied against the best three-year-olds in the WA Guineas (1600m) and Fairetha Stakes (1400m), holds $2.80 favouritism. Despite coming off a Bunbury maiden win (1400m) two weeks ago, In This Life has been virtually ignored by punters and is rated a $21 outsider. “It’s a nice horse with better form than it looks,” Smith said. “It will relish the 1800m and is a live chance. “I really like the horse who wants every bit of the 1800m.” Mr Motown, who races well fresh, launches his comeback in the Perth Racing-Sponsor A Race Handicap (1000m). His form before going for a spell was solid including a win in the Goldfields Magic Millions Classic (1200m) in July. Smith says the Oratorio gelding, drawn in barrier two for Harvey, had benefited from a lengthy break. “He deserved to have a good spell,” Smith said. “He always runs a good race and is a good chance. “The form around him is good and he will be thereabouts.” Cougar Express fronts up in the A.T.A Stakes (2200m) but a last-start 10th to Properantes has dented Smith’s confidence. “He was a bit disappointing and he never indicated he was going to put in that performance,” Smith said. “I’ve been in denial and he may not be up to the class.” Smith said he might have found the key to Reflectance who is getting close to a win after consecutive placings at Bunbury and Pinjarra. The gelding rounds out Smith’s day in the Merry Christmas From Perth Racing Handicap (1400m). “I’m just working him out but maybe he only has a 100m sprint,” Smith said. “I think sit quiet and save him up for one final kick. “He is a small but tough horse.”
