Runner by Runner: Fremantle Cup Posted on January 8, 2020January 8, 2020 | Posted by Trent Cooper 1. Bill Haley Trainer: Debra Lewis Driver: Chris Lewis Raced well in Queensland and has created a big impression by winning four of his nine starts in WA. He led and was disappointing when 2nd to Im Full Of Excuses two starts back but reverted to his preferred sit-sprint style when charging home from the rear to win here last week. Has options at the start and should be right in the finish. 2. Shockwave Trainer: Ryan Bell Driver: Gary Hall Jnr Has come of age this campaign and looks to still be improving through his preparation. Was first across the line in the 4YO Classic but lost the race on protest before exacting revenge by winning the Retravision Golden Nugget. He steps up to tackle the older horses tonight but indicated his readiness by dashing home in 25.8 to beat Mighty Conqueror in a recent trial. Has the added bonus of Gary Hall Jnr in the cart and looks a major player from this draw. 3. Caviar Star Trainer: Gary Hall Snr Driver: Stuart McDonald Up and coming 5YO who has impressed at his last three starts and deserves his place in the field. He defeated a weaker field three starts back and has since produced consecutive 2nd placings after facing the breeze. He is drawn to be prominent throughout and should be in the thick of the action if he has any luck in running. 4. My Field Marshal Trainer: Tim Butt Driver: Anthony Butt The reigning Fremantle Cup winner who has only had five starts since that victory 12 months ago. He led throughout on that occasion and backed up with a solid 4th in the WA Pacing Cup, before having trouble in the Miracle Mile and being sent for a spell. He has performed solidly at his two runs back from a break behind Alta Orlando and has to be respected as he is the proven class runner of this field. 5. Alta Orlando Trainer: Craig Cross Driver: Luke McCarthy Has been on the scene for a while but this 8YO is in career-best form. He enjoyed a nice run when beating My Field Marshall and Tiger Tara at Menangle and then came from last when defeating a similar field in the Turnbull Memorial at Bathurst. He has an awkward draw and will probably have to go back at the start but he will be unwinding a big finish and will be hard to hold out. 6. Handsandwheels Trainer: Aiden De Campo Driver: Aiden De Campo Resumed from a spell with two dashing wins in contrasting style. He ran on from near the rear to win first-up and then used his blistering gate speed to lead throughout in the Bunbury Cup. He ran a nice 2nd to Vultan Tin before his last run which can be overlooked. His versatility gives De Campo options at the start but he will need something to go his way to upset his rivals from this draw. 7. Ana Malak Trainer: Greg & Skye Bond Driver: Michael Grantham Won four of his seven starts, including the Popular Alm Sprint, during a Victorian campaign and has raced well without winning since his return to WA. He was only beaten a neck when 3rd to Galactic Star two starts back before finishing 4th to Vampiro in a 1.52.9 mile rate to indicate that he is up to this class but the wide draw will make it tough. 8. Herrick Roosevelt Trainer: Gary Hall Snr Driver: Maddison Brown Has been placed at all three runs back from a spell and should be at his top for this assignment. He looked underdone when leading and finishing 3rd at his first run this campaign before running a solid 2nd to Vampiro. He improved on those efforts with a strong 3rd here last week but he would need the race to be run at a hectic tempo to figure in the finish from this barrier. 9. Vampiro Trainer: Greg & Skye Bond Driver: Colin Brown Has won three of his past four starts and looked a serious danger but his chances have been dented significantly by drawing the outside barrier. He was a good winner over El Jacko three starts back and sizzled around the track in a 1.52.9 victory at his last start but it is hard to see a scenario where he can win from out here. 10. Galactic Star Trainer: Greg & Skye Bond Driver: Ryan Warwick Proven Grand Circuit performer who finished 2nd behind My Field Marshal in this race last year. He was a strong winner from the breeze at his second run back from a spell and caught the eye when flashing home to finish 3rd to Vampiro in slick time at his last start. He is drawn to get a soft run on the pegs and will be charging home if sees daylight at any time in the last circuit. 11. El Jacko Trainer: Greg & Skye Bond Driver: Dylan Egerton-Green Sit-sprint specialist who is always dangerous with the right run but will need everything to go his way to cause an upset tonight. Enjoyed a perfect run when 2nd to Vultan Tin at his last start and he can be expected to look for the pegs and try to earn some minor prizemoney on the night. 12. Vultan Tin Trainer: Phil Costello Driver: Chris Voak Has finished 4th in an Inter Dominion Final and his recent form has been up to his best. He brought up consecutive victories from the breeze in December and has had no luck at his two subsequent starts. He is likely to be driven more conservatively here but will be right in the finish if he can get the right cart into race. EMG 1: Our Corelli EMG 2: Our Jimmy Johnstone Selection: Galactic Star Proven performer at this level and is working up to his best form. Will enjoy a soft run on the pegs and will be charging late if he has any luck at all. Appeals as a great each way chance at around the $7.50 quote. Market Market
