Deane Lester’s Saturday Flemington Best Bets Posted on January 12, 2018 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Preview RACE 2 NO. 5 PRETTY PUNK Adelaide visitor PRETTY PUNK can make a successful venture across the border and win the Piping Lane Handicap (2000m). The four year old returned to winning form with an easy win over 2018 metres at Morphettville on December 30. She should be at peak fitness following four runs back from a spell and looks likely to make her own luck near the lead in this small field. Elite rider Craig Williams takes over the reins and PRETTY PUNK is poised to record her fifth career victory. SuperPick - RACE 2 NO. 5 PRETTY PUNK - Win Boost RACE 3 NO. 5 THE CHAIRMAN THE CHAIRMAN is a handy middle distance galloper fitter for one run back from a spell and looks a solid winning chance at each way odds when he contests the Seascay Handicap (1700m). The six year old is usually a little race rusty when resuming from a spell, so his effort to finish 6th behind the in-form OZI CHOICE in a very fast race over 1400 metres at Sandown on December 30 was an acceptable return to the track. He races much better second-up and will relish a step up in distance. He’s a reliable horse once he strikes form that looks well placed to perform strongly here. RACE 5 NO. 1 INDIAN THUNDER The Rain Lover Handicap (1400m) looks an open race with a host of chances, however INDIAN THUNDER is racing well enough to a genuine winning chance. The son of Manhattan Rain scored a strong win over 1250 metres at Morphettville Parks two starts back before being unsuited by a slow pace when finishing 5th behind WISE HERO over 1400 metres at Flemington on January 1. This looks a slightly easier race and he gets the benefit of in-form apprentice Ethan Brown’s 2kg claim so everything points to another big run from INDIAN THUNDER. Bet Now
