Chris Nelson’s Saturday Sunshine Coast Preview

RACE 1

Keen On the consistent filly RINGER’S REWARD to break through for win number one this time in. She hasn’t missed a placing all 4 starts with a Group 3 3rd two back & solid finishing 2nd last Saturday at Eagle Farm the highlights. Up she goes to 1600m today which looks very suitable particularly against this inferior opposition. SHAMEDY is unknown up to this trip however never runs a bad race & must be included. CAPTAIN FENKEL shows promise, he’s off a last start maiden win though & seems very short in early markets.

RACE 2

EL MORZILLO closed strongly on debut at Eagle Farm back in early December, back to the trials she won well & although drawn wide here likely to give the unbeaten LEAD ME ON a start I’m taking the punt she can overhaul him late, confident they can fight the race out. DREAM SMART was run down on the line at Eagle Farm last Saturday, back in trip suits. SHOWS A SIGN has trialled well however keep in mind it was over 650m.

RACE 3

Sticking with ISLAND MAGIC however I would have preferred the forecast rain which has all but disappeared. She has placed 4 of 5 on dry ground though suggesting she can still be competitive here running home from the back. PARTY SPIRIT loves this track, is racing in great form & draws a gate, she rises plenty in weight though. Take your pick the rest!

RACE 4

Very tough race. Looking for some value I’ve come up with MOB BUSTER whose wins are few & far between however he does race well at this track & stays in the mile range which is a suitable distance for him. REGAL POM should be getting towards his peak third run back from a break, worth including as is SOLAR APEX who enjoyed a good run fresh beating all bar the winner, drawn well once again gets a similar soft trip today.

Suggested Bet: box up top 4 selections in exotics.

RACE 5

Good speed in this race, the only runners not likely to push on are Bossed Up & Instagood, they will have the last crack. I’m with BOSSED UP who although well out of the money in a rich Magic Millions race at the Gold Coast he did run on, unbeaten both prior runs this prep & races well here. INSTAGOOD goes in as well, can improve sharply should they go nuts in front. LADY INVADER faces a task stepping up in distance & class, her wins have been impressive though.

RACE 6

GOLDEN BOOM is surely too good for this lot & should a decent price (something around $1.70) be floating around I’d suggest snapping it up. Good fresh at the Gold Coast he’ll strip fitter & will find the fence without any fuss, can’t see him being run down. JEMELDI has been nothing but consistent this prep & with a touch of luck likely has a couple of wins under his belt, he can place here. MISHANI SNIPER can improve, worked too hard first up.

RACE 7

Tough race this one as many can mix their form. Top selection AUSSIE NUGGET has been doing just that of late with a second-up second sandwiched between a couple of unplaced efforts. With a soft tempo on the map he might just find himself closer than usual from an ok draw, should that be the case he’ll get his chance. ALCYONE rises sharply to 1800m, could need one more? TONY BE is a likely improver third up.

RACE 8

The day’s feature is the Listed Sunshine Coast Cup over 1400m. Keen on the chances of the Toowoomba mare CHATTY LADY who comes out of the tougher ‘The Buffering’ last start when too far back to figure however finding the line strongly late. She races well here, draws ok & has won twice at the trip. Don’t see a great deal of speed on paper suggesting the old war horse MASTER JAMIE could take some running down. ESSONNE has form around CHATTY LADY suggesting she too has to be included.

Numbers: 5 – 1 – 6 – 4

Suggested Bet: CHATTY LADY EACH-WAY.

RACE 9

Sticking with the strong finisher HATCHET who mowed down the leader first up at Doomben before ok at the Gold Coast in a tougher race when way too far back to be a winning chance. Yes, he’s up in the weights however will be launching late. Locally trained ZOUMETEOR may be the one he has to gun down, led throughout to win the Country Cup at the Gold Coast clocking good time. Thought HEROIC MISS could feature, very consistent of late.

Numbers: 1 – 9 – 14 – 5

Suggested Bet: HATCHET TO WIN (small bet).

RACE 10

Absolute raffle to wind up the day! At this stage I’ll lean to the Gold Coaster CORFE CASTLE who yes will need luck from the wide gate however should it go his way he’s right in the mix having been beaten less than 2 lengths his past couple, the latest in tougher grade. CHARLIE’S CASE draws well & is racing in good form. ZHUANG SHI draws horribly, has gone up early favourite however likely to drift.
