Chris Nelson’s Saturday Rosehill Preview Posted on October 5, 2023October 5, 2023 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Another outstanding day of racing ahead getting underway with a 1500m Highway where there is no shortage of runners! ATMOSPHERIC ROCK is busting to win one of these races & he gets another chance here dropping in weight drawing a reasonable gate. He didn’t jump well last time & ended up giving away too much start before running home well, note first 2 out were the first 2 home. Good gate for CHASE MY CROWN who ran well this grade two back & not far away the latest. Wide open affair, chances don’t end there. Numbers: 11 – 1 – 5 – 15 Suggested Bet: ATMOSPHERIC ROCK (small bet) RACE 2 Very suitable looking race for FELIX MAJESTIC who was an eye-catcher late first up before settling closer in the run & proving far too good for the opposition last start. No reason he won’t strip fitter again here & from the good alley should prove very hard to beat. BACKROWER can improve however needs to, more of a place chance perhaps? PEACE OFFICER will need a ton of luck, still not convinced about BEND THE KNEE, he’d had enough on the line last start. Numbers: 7 – 8 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet: FELIX MAJESTIC (small bet) RACE 3 Open looking race where I’ll lean to PIEROSSA who looks very close to a win. In my opinion she comes through tougher races of late against the likes of Marquess & Howgoodareyou, she carries no weight, will jump from a good gate & the step up in trip won’t be an issue. PESTO should have won first up, had to wait for ever to get over heels & into the clear, second up record very average though. MISSION PHOENIX & GAN TEORAINN in the mix also. Numbers: 8 – 3 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet: PIEROSSA TO WIN RACE 4 Going to give PIONEER RIVER a chance to break back into the winner’s circle. Just hasn’t been finding the line of late however will find this a much easier task & drops back 100m in distance which won’t harm his chances either. On the flipside of that he does rise in weight however over these shorter trips I don’t see that as a major concern. Stablemate XTRAVAGENT STAR likely the toughest to beat, won’t get the same ‘gun run’ as last start however can still figure. MABEL ran well fresh & holds a good second up record. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 5 OZZMOSIS was being spoken of as an Everest chance following his first up win a couple of weeks back & although he hasn’t gained a slot (at this stage) & isn’t likely to he should beat these. Unbeaten all 3 starts to date he will take plenty of benefit off that win & the map suggests he’ll get over ok here. KINGS GAMBIT disappointed first up down the Flemington straight, he wouldn’t be the first young horse to struggle without a bend to go around, the wraps have always been big on him. Loved the way CELESTIAL LEGEND found the line first up, additional 100m is ideal now. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet: OZZMOSIS TO WIN/box up top 3 selections in exotics. RACE 6 He’s had a few runs this prep & is highly likely coming to the end however on form I just can’t go past ENCAP who almost landed the Group 1 last start if not for a paralysing late finishing burst from the star 3yo Militarize. Drawn ok he should again take up a position handy to the lead & this opposition is clearly inferior. DUCASSE & HEMAN will by suited out to the longer trip, include both in exotics. Numbers: 1 – 8 – 7 – 13 Suggested Bet: ENCAP TO WIN RACE 7 Tough looking race, going with some value putting the third-up ZEYREK on top. First up run was sound running on, second up he just peaked late against stronger rivals. Suitable distance range he likes this track & can run well on an each-way basis. PROTAGONIST indicated at his second up outing he’s not far away. FIREBURN can run into a placing without surprising. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 14 – 11 Suggested Bet: ZEYREK EACH-WAY RACE 8 Sticking with the last start winner CEPHEUS who will settle in the first half-dozen (likely 3rd/4th) from his good alley. Yes’, I’m wary of the Waller pair WATERFORD & OLENTIA however they both get back & need everything to pan out, this one parks close, has a good sprint & loves racing at Rosehill. He was good last start WATERFORD however winning races from so far back is a low percentage task, maybe he can settle closer? Can’t see OLENTIA any closer from her gate. Numbers: 1 – 12 – 16 – 5 Suggested Bet: CEPHEUS EACH-WAY RACE 9 I have a couple of queries on the favoured pair PARISAL & MAGIC TIME & have gone very left of field putting CALL DI on top as an each-way ‘roughie’. Yes, PARISAL is coming out of stronger races however jumps off a wide gate in a race with likely good speed. Many were impressed with MAGIC TIME first up, I thought she was ok with improvement needed which is highly likely though. CALL DI goes forward, has been freshened up & was competitive in Group races last prep. Numbers: 14 – 5 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet: CALL DI EACH-WAY (small bet) RACE 10 Very suitable looking race for the second-up KAYOBI who hit the line well in a quality BM88 first up. Perfectly drawn he’ll appreciate the step up in distance & with the claim will carry only 2kg more in weight dropping back to BM78 grade. Big drop in grade for DIAMOND DEALER however also a big rise in weight, still including though. GRINGOTTS is lightly raced with plenty of upside. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 10 – 9 Suggested Bet: KAYOBI TO WIN Market Market
