Chris Nelson’s Saturday Eagle Farm Preview Posted on October 5, 2023October 5, 2023 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Confident we can get the day off on a winning note with the speedy HOLD ON HONEY who comes up with a draw that should see her first to get to the fence & from there they are all going to have to run her down. Liked her effort here last start giving plenty in the straight when a game second behind the in-form Hard To Say. Step up in grade for LOST IN TRANSIT however he can only win & he’s definitely been doing that, stable are airborne. Can’t see anything else measuring up. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet: HOLD ON HONEY TO WIN RACE 2 Monitoring the market moves a good guide in this race for the 2yo’s where from what I’ve seen at the trials I’ll lean to MOET AT MIDNIGHT who looked good winning his recent heat, from the Barry Lockwood yard those market moves will be the best indictor to his chances. BRAZEN ACT looked ok in his heat, MISHANI FIRE has race experience. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 7 – 11 Suggested Bet: Follow the market? RACE 3 Found this race difficult, with DAYTONA going around later in the day the Gollan stable is now represented by STANDING ORDER who although trialled well I thought may need the run? Going to lean to the race fit BROCKY who’s been chasing some in-form types home of late & doesn’t look badly placed with the good gate & claim. READY FOR ANYTHING has the big weight however is generally around the mark. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet: BROCKY EACH-WAY RACE 4 IN EVIDENCE & RED DEFCON are the two for me with a leaning to the former. Like the fact he’s rising slightly in distance off solid closing efforts of late & I can see Bailey Wheeler pushing on & finding a spot which could be crucial as the race has little speed on paper. RED DEFCON closed well at Toowoomba, drops back over 200m, will that suit? BOOMING LAD best of the rest. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet: IN EVIDENCE TO WIN/saver RED DEFCON RACE 5 Leading trainer Tony Gollan holds a strong hand here with FIFTH POSITION & KRONENBOURG who feature prominently in early markets. I’m with the lesser fancied of the pair FIFTH POSITION who should be ready to peak third run back from a break, just missed out last time can go one better today. Probably expected KRONENBOURG to win by further last start however he should take further improvement, rarely runs a poor race. MENAZZI leads for fun, worth including. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 9 – 4 Suggested Bet: FIFTH POSITION EACH-WAY RACE 6 Former southern mare OUTLAWED has raced in career best form since joining the Heathcote yard. She’s raced 5 times for 3 wins & a pair of seconds & should be able to build on that record here even allowing for the wide draw, I’d expect Ben Thompson to be on the move early on finding a spot up on speed & from there she’ll again prove the one to beat. DAYTONA can improve second up, no luck first local start when trapped 3 wide without cover. Numbers: 13 – 8 – 11 – 1 Suggested Bet: OUTLAWED TO WIN RACE 7 Absolute lottery! Tony Gollan is backing up SUNSET SOIREE something we don’t see from the stable very often. She gave away far too much start last Saturday off a wide draw before making ground in the straight without being punished to the line. Better draw today expect to see her closer. CUSACK is racing well, good draw once again he can figure in the finish. VERY INTOXICATING had little luck last start, LOLLY YEATS looks close to another win. Numbers: 14 – 2 – 15 – 9 Suggested Bet: Box up as many as you can in exotics. RACE 8 The 2400m Listed Queensland Cup is our feature race. I’m with the interstate raiders putting KING FRANKEL on top, his runs this time in down south appear awful on face value, looking more closely at both they have been sound & he will find this a lot easier. Expect him to roll forward & take running down. DESERT ICON doesn’t win out of turn however he’s always there at the business end of that race, rarely gives in without a fight. Expecting improvement from BONNY EZRA at odds. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 4 – 10 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 in exotics. RACE 9 Confident STAR OF CHAOS can bounce back into winning form here. He went way too hard in front last start & was always going to be a sitting shot in the straight, expect him to lead once again however at a softer tempo. CHATTY LADY was terrific winning at Toowoomba, smallish field suits, she won’t have as many to get past. RELEASE THE BEANS in the mix as well, had nothing go his way latest run. Numbers: 11 – 3 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet: STAR OF CHAOS TO WIN RACE 10 STEELY draws poorly here however I’m sticking with him as his form is superior to his opposition. He’s been chasing the likes of Democracy Manifest, Barbie’s Fox etc. home of late, they’d give this race an almighty shake. Keep an eye on the market moves around QUALITY TIME who was scratched last Saturday, drawn well & in the right yard. ROMAN AUREUS comes up with a decent gate, generally runs well when that’s the case. Numbers: 8 – 5 – 7 – 16 Suggested Bet: STEELY EACH-WAY Market Market
