Chris Nelson’s Saturday Randwick Preview Posted on July 6, 2023July 7, 2023 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Narrowed this opening race down to two chances & they are the couple at the top EPIC PROPORTIONS & CIGAR FLICK with a leaning to the former who has the race fitness under his belt. He’s only had the single start which resulted in an all the way Canterbury win doing it both ends of the race having been heavily backed late. This is harder, this is not Canterbury however he looks a strong type who can handle the bigger track. CIGAR FLICK has Group form, nice recent trial finishing off well, market moves will be all important. Confident the winner will come from that pair. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet: EPIC PROPORTIONS TO WIN/SAVER CIGAR FLICK RACE 2 With the scratching of RESONATOR we lose our natural leader which now likely comes from either nos.2 or 3. Suggest WEST OF AFRICA will take plenty of benefit from the first up run as I didn’t like his final lead up trial, held up until the 200 he then hit the line well, the additional trip surely works in his favour. TOKEN CAPITALIST had nothing go his way last start being posted deep, that won’t be the case here from the pole gate, previous form very consistent. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet: WEST OF AFRICA EACH-WAY RACE 3 Still feel ALLGEMEINE can get away with one of these races however as was the case last start she’s drawn the car park & will need luck which she didn’t get on that occasion. She didn’t shirk her task one bit & at the odds I’ll take the punt on a small scale. BURRANDANA is lightly raced & very promising, motored home first up carries less weight this time around & draws a better gate. CHASE MY CROWN is consistent & can fill a placing with luck from a wide gate. Numbers: 14 – 2 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet: ALLGEMEINE EACH-WAY (small bet) RACE 4 The super consistent DIAMOND DIESEL is just busting to win one of these races & he looks the safe way out on an each-way basis. Yet to miss a placing all preparation the last three have been at this ‘Midway’ level & he looks well in with the claim for Dylan Gibbons. TWICE AS SPECIAL was very good winning here last start in a race which didn’t really suit tempo wise, probably asking a bit much to make it two straight however she’s at least in the place mix. CROSSCHECK won this level first up last prep, different stable however wouldn’t overlook. Numbers: 5 – 7 – 3 – 11 Suggested Bet: DIAMOND DIESEL EACH-WAY RACE 5 Keep coming back to RESONATOR here who connections have elected to run in this race rather than earlier in the day. Right at peak fitness now he backs up from a strong all the way win last Saturday and drops a couple of kilos which is needed as he does rise in grade. EXCELLADUS the toughest to beat, beaten narrowly his past couple he draws favourably today with the claim for top apprentice Zac Lloyd. BATTLETON is never far away, can he win one though? Numbers: 3 – 2 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet: RESONATOR TO WIN RACE 6 With ARISTONOUS heading south stablemate INTUITU gets the nod here. He’s a former French galloper who resumed here a fortnight back only warming up at the end of the mile. Out he steps to 2000m today which appears very suitable. MUTAMANNI is lightly raced & shows plenty of upside, finished hard to win last start & should also lap up the additional trip. TOURISTIC was good last start scoring with a wide run however this is harder & he draws poorly. Numbers: 9 – 5 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet: INTUITU EACH-WAY RACE 7 Tricky looking race as there does appear good speed which could well set it up for an off-paced closer. I might be losing the plot here however I’m having something each-way on the despised outsider CLASSY JAYBEE who was triple figures in some markets early on. Follows the same pattern as last prep trialling well before going around in a race of this class, he clocked in 3rd with 60.5kg which is plenty more than he carries this afternoon. BRUDENELL did it both ends first up, just wonder where he’ll get to or how much work he’ll need to do from the awkward draw. INSURRECTION & CURTIS ISLAND in the same boat. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet: CLASSY JAYBEE EACH-WAY (very small bet) RACE 8 Might be going off a run too early putting the ex-American mare TAMAHERE on top however at the odds I’m happy to have something each-way. She’s had the 3 starts in Australia racing wide at the first couple before resuming here recently when held up badly in the straight. Things are going to pan out for her at some stage & that may be here although I would have loved this to be a mile. COTEHELE is rarely far away whilst CISCO BAY & LADY OF LUXURY will both be zooming home at the business end of the race. Numbers: 3 – 11 – 5 – 16 Suggested Bet: TAMAHERE EACH-WAY RACE 9 Can’t tip against IOWNA MERC who was very unluck last start giving away too much start. A winner his first two outings this prep he dropped back in trip at that latest run & wasn’t suited by the tempo set up front either yet there he was charging down the outside into fourth spot late. Back to 1200m dropping 3.5kg he’ll take a ton of beating. WEWILLROCK freshened up has had a soft trial to keep the fitness levels up, well up in the weights however does drop back from Listed grade. FOX FIGHTER definitely in the mix. Numbers: 11 – 4 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet: IOWNA MERC TO WIN RACE 10 Tough way to wind up the day with many winning chances. I’ll lean to the first up KIR ROYALE who although yet to win fresh has placed 2 of 3 & this grade looks very suitable. She’s trialled well & gets 1.5kg off for Zac Lloyd. LADY BROOK has been good her past couple, getting up in the weights however still a chance. PETULANT has come back well & draws to gain an economical run. Numbers: 1 – 8 – 13 – 4 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics Market Market
