Chris Nelson’s Saturday Doomben Preview Posted on July 6, 2023 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Interesting race to kick off the day with two runners TRANSATLANTIC & POWER OF THE BRAVE dominating the market. Both are lightly raced with last start maiden wins however I can find negatives, having said that I don’t think the opposition are anything to get excited about. I’ll lean to POWER OF THE BRAVE narrowly, the best way to play the race is likely the quinella/exacta. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet: Box up top 2 selections in exotics RACE 2 SPACE TRACKER appears very well placed here third up from a break. His two outings this time in have been at Rosehill where he’s been narrowly beaten by Resonator & Attractable who have gone on to win their next starts as well. This is an easier assignment & the step up in distance is a definite plus. O’MISS BEHAVING seems over the odds, yes on trial out to this trip however recent efforts suggest she’ll run it right out. AQUA ALTA in the mix second up, will appreciate the longer trip. Numbers: 3 – 10 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet: SPACE TRACKER TO WIN RACE 3 Average looking affair for the stayers who do tend to mix their form. COLLEAGUES is only lightly raced & at least has some upside, comes off a dominant last start win & although out to this trip for the first time should run it out. READILY AVAILABULL is very consistent, plenty of weight & a wide gate however must include. CARBONETTI has the best form lines in the race around recent winner Inuwashi & Fawkner Park. Numbers: 8 – 1 – 9 – 5 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics RACE 4 CANADIAN DANCER is a consistent mare who with better luck would have won more races. As it is she’s 3 from 11 & has been very competitive in stronger races than todays. Zero luck the latest I’m taking the punt the tide will turn & she can get a clear crack at them in the straight. STAR SPIRIT has come back in good form winning the latest at Canterbury after an unlucky first up placing. BIG watch on the Victorian visitor SKIDAMARINK who is 2 from 3 down south resuming here, her latest back in November was very impressive from the front. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 14 – 8 Suggested Bet: CANADIAN DANCER EACH-WAY RACE 5 SAILOR’S SECRET keeps on turning up & running good races. He’s up in the weights today however the claim for an in form Ceejay Graham brings hm down to a winnable 56kg, with form around the likes of Ekaterina & Sunfall he’s the one to beat again. COUNT DA BEANS often comes up with excuses, he will find this easier than all runs this prep & really doesn’t carry any more weight. The in-form POCKET FULL rises in grade however looks well up to it based on current form & his final couple of runs last prep. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 9 Suggested Bet: SAILOR’S SECRET TO WIN RACE 6 ARENTEE & BLAZE A TRAIL are the runners with the strong form lines here & it’s no surprise they are dominating the market. I’m going to lean to the former who won well here first up before tacking Group races his next couple which although he was never going to win he gave a good account of himself. With the claim here he does look extremely well placed. BLAZE A TRAIL ran into traffic at Ipswich in the Eye Liner, wasn’t far away there suggest will get back & run home hard here. Numbers: 6 – 7 – 15 – 4 Suggested Bet: ARENTEE TO WIN/box up top 2 selections in exotics RACE 7 Keen on DRAGONSTONE who wasn’t done any favours with an inside barrier draw at Randwick last start when beating all bar the winner in a race which didn’t really suit tempo wise either! He should get plenty of room here & has a bit on these. GOLDSBOROUGH backs up off a narrow defeat at the Sunshine Coast last Saturday, drawn well & with the claim he gets plenty in his favour, doesn’t mind the sting out either. Ditto Snowzone who probably would have liked the rain to hang round. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 5 – 8 Suggested Bet: DRAGONSTONE TO WIN RACE 8 Don’t see a lot of early pace in this race & as a result MISSISSIPPI PRINCE shouldn’t have any problem finding the front & controlling the speed. He’ll find this tougher than last start however with the claim & staying at his pet trip he can definitely measure up. Good race for SELEQUE who wasn’t far from Antino two back before outclassed the latest, can mix her form however on her day would win this. LINTHORPE LAD drops back plenty in grade, yes he’s up in the weights however did win with the same 59kg first up. Numbers: 5 – 8 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet: MISSISSIPPI PRINCE EACH-WAY RACE 9 I’ve always been a HATCHET fan & have no plan to jump off here as he appears well placed. Ridden off speed he was able to run down Black On Beauty here last start & we saw that one bolt in at Eagle Farm on Wednesday. His record here is terrific & I’m expecting him to build positively on that today. Big watch on the Tony Gollan newcomer ZARASTRO who has a good record when on the fresh side & did romp home in a recent trial here. OUTBACK ACTION & KANAZAWA next best. Numbers: 12 – 14 – 11 – 1 Suggested Bet: HATCHET TO WIN/SAVER ZARASTRO Market Market
