Chris Nelson’s Saturday Randwick Preview Posted on July 25, 2024July 25, 2024 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Racing at Randwick on Saturday should be close to being run on a Good rated surface, wouldn’t that be nice. Good looking 2yo affair gets the day underway & I’m with the Queensland visitor BARBIE’S SISTER who resumes off the back of a dominant barrier trial win at Doomben recently. She ran the quickest time of the session romping home by 7L & looks all set to run a big race fresh. TARPAULIN the toughest to beat having recorded a strong on paced win at Warwick Farm second-up. BIG watch on the 950K debutante QATARS CHOICE who is trialling well & in very good hands. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 8 – 6 Suggested Bet: BARBIE’S SISTER EACH-WAY. RACE 2 Going with the heartbreak mare AGIRLSBESTFRIEND in this week’s Highway. She just has zero luck in her races which was the case once again at Doomben last start running on from a long way back (drew wide 13/13). She ran a similar race the run prior & should appreciate the long run home here & the additional 200m. FIELD THE MOMENT is racing well, she brought her strong country form to town last start running on well in a race not run to suit at all. COUNTY KILKENNY in the mix. Numbers: 7 – 10 – 2 – 11 Suggested Bet: AGIRLSBESTFRIEND EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 3 Typically open looking Midway where I’m siding with the lightly raced PLUCKTEN who shot through along the inside to score at Hawkesbury last start. Tempo was solid there suggesting he’ll be suited out over further which he gets today rising 100m. NOVEMBER FALLS continues to race well, busting to win a Midway, will need to do it from a very wide draw today. DR EVIL also draws wide, almost beat a smart one last start though, must include. Numbers: 12 – 13 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet: PLUCKTEN EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 4 Going right down the bottom of the page putting AUTUMNMATION on top here who is stepping up in class off recent midweek outings. I like her dropping in weight (5kg) & rising 250m in distance. She was a 1600m winner second-up & has had only the two runs since both at 1550m, clearly she is now looking for further. DEFINING goes to 1800m for the first time, recent form is around the 1400m mark, those runs suggest she should see it out. BLACKCOMB a chance on her latest effort. Numbers: 10 – 2 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet: AUTUMNMATION EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 5 Tough race, very even looking bunch where luck in running will be all important. I’m sticking with the obvious in WORLD ALLIANCE who has returned to racing in great form winning both starts this prep in strong finishing fashion. Drawn well here he’ll be close enough to strike at the business end. No knock on the unbeaten JOISELLE who can measure up, Scone win was impressive however keep in mind it was on heavy ground. WINGARDIUM with the claim & added fitness (second up) right in the hunt. Numbers: 1 – 13 – 7 – 8 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 6 Aided by a solid tempo HA HA HA was able to power home down the outside to run down SPAGE AGE here a fortnight back. That likely suggests HA HA HA is now chasing further & the two do battle again over the same 1600m trip with SPACE AGE faring better at the weights, I’ll lean his way to turn the tables. TIJUANA was caught wide last start before looming to the lead, no surprise he was run over, right in the mix here with a more favourable run. Numbers: 8 – 3 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet: SPAGE AGE TO WIN (small bet). RACE 7 FLEETWOOD appeals here coming back to Benchmark racing after placing in Open 3yo & Listed his past couple. When racing at this level his first two runs this prep he went back to back with bigger weights than he’ll carry today. SHEZANALISTER has a good strike rate & comes off a first up victory, formlines in & out of that race have been poor though which makes me wary. BUBBA’S BAY usually takes a run however his trials have been good, perhaps more forward this time around? TRISTATE an improver. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet: FLEETWOOD TO WIN. RACE 8 Happy to follow any market support for the resuming VIVY AIR who is a first up winner in the past & was unlucky not to salute fresh last campaign before placing in Group 3 company next start. Two trials should have her ready to give this race a decent shake. No knock KERGUELEN bar a drier track, will she be as effective? Thought LADY BOSS ran a nice race last start when trapped wide, lightly raced with plenty of upside she’s not without a chance. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 9 – 12 Suggested Bet: VIVY AIR EACH-WAY (looking for market support). RACE 9 THE ENGLISHMAN ran a good second here 2 weeks ago when he looked like going straight on by the smart Don Diego De Vega who fought doggedly. Fourth up this afternoon he should be right at his peak & this distance range seems to be his preferred option. AWASH is racing very well down south, awkward draw however J. Mac will help there. Away from that pair there’s not a lot of recent consistent form amongst the rest, wouldn’t be surprised to see big improvement from a couple of runners. Numbers: 11 – 4 – 10 – 3 Suggested Bet: THE ENGLISHMAN EACH-WAY. RACE 10 Wide open race to end the day, could just about make a case for & against for every runner. I’m going very wide putting SIR ARTIE on top who will be double-figure odds. Yet to place from 2 fresh attempts to date he did win a recent trial & note at both of those fresh runs he has clocked the quickest final 200m split. SEQUESTERED & CADETSHIP are both capable of winning fresh, market moves all important. LITTLE COINTREAU is racing well, gate no help though. Numbers: 7 – 10 – 12 – 6 Suggested Bet: SIR ARTIE EACH-WAY (very small bet). Market Market
