Chris Nelson’s Saturday Doomben Preview Posted on July 25, 2024July 25, 2024 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Racing at Doomben kicks off with a 1350m 3yo. Nos.1, 2 & 5 all met here a fortnight back running the placings in that exact order. BELLA KHADIJAH clocked in 3rd making good ground to the line & on face value will appreciate further rather than staying at the same trip this afternoon. However, she went back from the wide gate & I’d expect her to settle closer from an ideal draw today. ENTERPRISE DEFENCE & SAVOUR THE DREAM the logical dangers whilst DATA SCRAMBLE won solidly on debut & note the horse he beat won at Ipswich on Wednesday. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet: BELLA KHADIJAH EACH-WAY. RACE 2 Surely MADAME ODETTE breaks through today having been very unlucky here last start. Held up for clear running at a crucial time in the straight she really dashed strongly once seeing daylight to just miss out. With even luck she would have won & can make amends here. CUNNAMULLA FELLA stepped up to this trip successfully last start off a midweek win prior, lightly raced & has more upside than the lot of them. MORE TROUBLE can improve dropping back to a more suitable level. Numbers: 8 – 4 – 9 – 11 Suggested Bet: MADAME ODETTE TO WIN. RACE 3 SET TO SHINE just scraped home to win at Eagle Farm last start & is the top tip in an open looking race. Just felt she might be the one in the right spot racing on or handy to the speed & we know she’ll give plenty when the pressure is on late. SUPER DUCK ran home well last start, based on that effort 1350m looks appealing. Had this race been shorter I could almost have THE INFLICTOR on top however 1000m-1350m just has me concerned. Numbers: 7 – 8 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet: SET TO SHINE TO WIN (small bet). RACE 4 Complete lottery this race. I’ve ended up siding with MOTELL who should be getting somewhere near his peak fourth run back from a break however I’d be lying if I didn’t say I’m a little concerned about the sharp distance rise, I may be going off a run too early? BLUESTONE LANE is a complete unknown out to this trip, did find the line ok at the Gold Coast last Saturday though. DIABLO BOLT & GULF OF TOMINI in the mix as are plenty others! Numbers: 7 – 10 – 6 – 3 Suggested Bet: Wide exotics. RACE 5 The speed map doesn’t look kind to FLYING TRAPEZE however he should still have these covered. He’s been competitive in much stronger 3yo company & put the writing on the wall with a fast-closing narrow second here a fortnight back in a head bobbing finish which could have gone either way. With no weight I’d suggest he’ll be able to round these up comfortably in the straight. No surprise to see IRISH SONGS improve back to an easier race whilst THE VOWELS will strip fitter off the first up run. Numbers: 8 – 1 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet: FLYING TRAPEZE TO WIN. RACE 6 Another wide-open distance affair. Going to suggest something ROGUE BEAR who did make good ground here second-up, both runs this prep have been around the mile range with the step up to 2020m this afternoon looking ideal. I wouldn’t have my last on him however he’s worth a few dollars each-way. LORD ARDMORE should gain an economical run, very capable of bobbing up in this grade. CABOCHE should be ready to improve, the additional distance is very suitable for him. Numbers: 10 – 3 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet: ROGUE BEAR EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 7 The very much in-form INVINCIBLE SHIELD will start a short-priced favourite here & it’s difficult to tip against him. He’s 3 from 3 this prep running slick times on each occasion, he’ll park handily & the 1200m looks a very suitable step up in distance. RIMBAUD should gain a perfect run in the race & can be solid late, right in the place mix at least. BOHEMIAN LAD is also racing well, he too clocked quick time when winning a midweeker here two runs back. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet: INVINCIBLE SHIELD TO WIN. RACE 8 The O’Dea/Hoysted stable had 3 acceptors in this race however with wide draws they are now left with just the one being the resuming REAL RUSH who will jump from an inside gate. She’s only lightly raced running 3rd here in a maiden on debut (wide/game) before bolting in at Beaudesert. She’s trialled well & could be ready to go. GREYZOUS has been going around in stronger races of late, expect improvement with Maloney up from the good alley. FEMME FATALE & AVONE in the place mix. Numbers: 15 – 5 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet: REAL RUSH TO WIN (looking for market support). RACE 9 I SEE YOU COMING was a very warm favourite here 2 weeks ago when landing the run of the race behind the leader. Securing a rails split into the straight it looked like how far; however he couldn’t pick up & wound up running third. Have to think the 60.5kg dulled his finishing effort & down to 55kg today he can go close to making amends. BEAU RUMBLE is very consistent & maps ideally on speed from the pole gate. Expect to see HURTS SO GOOD motoring home late. Numbers: 10 – 1 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet: Wide exotics best. Market Market
