Matt Young’s Friday Gloucester Park Preview Posted on September 18, 2026September 18, 2026 | Posted by Matt Young Race 1 MAJOR DISCO (12) is racing in top form and looks hard to beat, he is rarely out of the money and will be dangerous again in this as his versatility brings him into it from any draw in this grade, go close. MY HAMMER DOWN (2) hit the line bolting last time out in a race where they walked and sprinted home, has come back well and has some early speed, looks a solid chance in this. ATLAS THE TITAN (4) comes in fresh and did a good job after a long time away from the racetrack, can do work where required. PRINCE OF TRIBECA (3) was fantastic in his closing sections last run and a winner two starts ago, respect in this as he should be close enough. TRAVELBAN (1) a novelty chance from the draw with MIKIS PRIDE (9) and KOOJAN (11). Tips: 2 12 3 4 Suggested Bet: MY HAMMER DOWN (2) each way. Race 2 Fascinating contest over the mile. Emily Suvaljko choosing to drive ISEEUBABY (2) creates interest for me here, this is a steep rise in grade, but she can run a good mile and might be a good read that they think she can go well, be a big test for her. DELIGHTFUL PEG (6) with Gary Hall Jnr choosing to drive, he will drive this mare forward and she will be hard to hold out, she has handled the rise to FFA mares well. FAKENIT (9) has a horror draw but is second up and classy. BEETASTIC (1) ideally drawn but comes in first up, likely to be close enough and be around the mark. UP AND ALIVE (5) and BEACH DIAMOND (7) need luck from their respective draws. Tips: 6 2 9 1 Suggested Bet: DELIGHTFUL PEG (6) to win. Race 3 AMERICAN BLAZE (2) is ideally drawn to be prominent in this, has some good speed and will be looking for the top, won the John Higgins Memorial from that position and looks hard to beat in this. OUR TWINKLE (7) found his way to the top last start and continues his unbeaten streak in WA, another good test. MAJOR EXPRESS (3) trialled brilliantly and has had a long time away from the track, respect him on return, should be close enough and the stable and driver are in fine form. HOLD THE AMMO (1) has options from the draw, novelty chance in this with SOHO MOONRAKER (10) who needs some luck but hit the line bolting last run. HUGOTASTIC (5) returns and faces a tricky draw with OPAL HUNTER (6) and OUR CRUNCH TIME (12). Tips: 2 3 7 1 Suggested Bet: MAJOR EXPRESS (3) each way. Race 4 EASTBRO CHRISSY (1) has the perfect draw and hit the line well last time out, has good early speed and will be hard to beat in this, ready to run a big race. PENNY BLACK (4) will watch things unfold before pushing forward and looking for the breeze, she is a proven stayer and will be hard to shake off. WATER LOU (3) racing well and landed a plunge, rises in distance and even with that will get a good run. LITTLE DARLING (2) is a novelty chance, might be able to get in behind the pole marker with HILLVIEW BONDI (10) a moderate beginner at times. HARRISON JOHN (12) hasn’t had the best luck since debuting in the state, likely forward showing in this. LINCOLN LOU (5), LAZI DAIS (6), CAPTAIN RAVISHING (8) and LUVBITE (9) have awful draws for their chances. Tips: 1 4 12 2 Suggested Bet: EASTBRO CHRISSY (1) to win. Race 5 MISS LEOPATRA (5) was fantastic on return and looks to be driven like the best horse here and with that overall advantage will be very hard to beat. SKINNY DIPPIN (12) has won two of three in WA and both of which were from the leading position, looked disappointing when in the field so this will be a good test, but her overall ability is of a high standard. MANUKA BAY (7) could run the gate as she has above average gate speed, racing well to be on speed and in the money. LIVY ANN (1) nicely drawn gives her a novelty chance with WAR CRY (3) who is there abouts so far since coming to WA. A PRECIOUS GEM (6) is a nice type but faces an awkward draw. MAAS ATTACK (10) going well and is a novelty chance. Tips: 5 12 7 10 Suggested Bet: MISS LEOPATRA (5) to win. Race 6 Open race. LOU LAMOUR (11) has put in a couple of decent runs in recent weeks and looks to get a good run through in this, distance and map suits and looks a solid chance. LOCAL RESIDENT (4) won well last time out, has good early speed and would take some beating if he found the top but needs to step around CHERRY ON THE CAKE (2) who is a known front runner and is rising in grade but is improving with fitness. DOURADO (7) is a high-speed horse who needs a touch of luck but looks a chance with even luck. CAPTAIN SAID SO (8) is a versatile type but needs a bit of tempo, map looks tricky for him and highly consistent CURADH (9) who is ready to win. Tips: 11 4 9 8 Suggested Bet: LOU LAMOUR (11) to win. Race 7 Good early speed battle here with TRUE GRIT (3) finding it hard to break through but has been consistent and will be looking to hold out the speedy ERA (4) who will appreciate a chance to be on speed, if he crosses, he has options. SOUTH SIDE STORY (9) can just assess early but looks the most likely to end up in the breeze and he just does what he has too, looks hard to hold out if he can get to the breeze cheaply which is a solid chance. MARTYR (11) will punch through and be handy enough to them, racing soundly. SUGAR STREET (8) was held up last run and a winner two starts ago and is a novelty chance with ON THE BACK FOOT (1) and BET ON THE RIVER (10) from their softer draws. Tips: 9 11 3 4 Suggested Bet: SOUTH SIDE STORY (9) to win. Race 8 Open race. HOTFOOT IT (1) hasn’t been at his best in recent runs but gets the draw to lead and the class suits, could lead this and run a good race. SOUND WAVE (10) has the perfect draw and could be dangerous late, could get the run of the race. BLUE BLAZER (2) has the speed to test early as does TUBBS FARQUHAR (4), both racing well though not being used early. ROCK ME OVER (7) is racing just soundly now, but this grade suits and an improvement wouldn’t shock. BEAT THE BANK (9) capable but needs a few things to go right from the draw. BLITZAR (6) can head forward and goes well on speed and if they overdo it then MY ULTIMATE CHEVRON (11) and CORDERO (12) can get into it. Tips: 1 10 7 6 Suggested Bet: SOUND WAVE (10) each way. Race 9 – Best Bet IDEAL WHISPER (4) has the speed to charge across and lead and is a proven racehorse, I think in front he isn’t far behind being the best 2yo in the state and this will be a good test but looks very hard to run down. OFF SHORE (5) ran without being fully focussed on his debut win in the state, this will be a good test as he will be up against a talented type and it could elevate him, excited to see how he handles it. SWEET ROBBIE (2) is ideally drawn to duck to the rail and be a novelty chance with ULTIMATE SHOT (1) who could be close to a genuine tempo and TERBIUM (6) has been luckless but will be running on well. Tips: 4 5 2 1 Suggested Bet: IDEAL WHISPER (4) to win. Race 10 VINITA ROSE (9) continues to have upside, was a decent return before running well last time out, suitable grade and can be driven like the best horse and will be hard to beat in this. SPIRIT OF SAHARA (1) will run a bold race, improving with every run and the good draw over the mile will see him run well, gets a chance to show his best. STAPLETON (3) might have a look in the early stages and has come back well, has good early speed. LORD PUBLISHER (10) is a novelty chance from the good draw along with DEE JAYS BIG BOY (2) and IDEAL INTEREST (5). Tips: 9 1 3 10 Suggested Bet: VINITA ROSE (9) to win.
