RACE 1

ROGER is making his debut off the back of two recent Lark Hill trial wins. The times haven’t been great and the margins haven’t been big, but he looks to move well and from the draw he’ll get every opportunity to open his winning account. COOL LU had no luck in a recent trial. Always risky getting involved in horses who get chopped out in barrier trials but a bit of a watch on the market to see if there’s any late support for her. CALL ME INVINCIBLE is on the 7 day spin, is drawn to get another soft run and is knocking on the door. Just still not entirely convinced he’s quite as a good as the market seems to portray. WIN FOR BUSTER showed plenty on debut but really hasn’t lived up to that level or expectation ever since.

RACE 2

TREASURED LEGACY was all the rage going into her debut at Bunbury as a 2-year-old but she was quite simply never in the race. She pulled up with excuses (shin sore) and was immediately spelled. Has also had a throat operation in between preparations but based on her recent barrier trial it doesn’t seem to have worried her in the slightest. She’s going to be understandably popular. CACHACA has shown enough at trials to suggest that he’ll be winning a maiden very early in his career. Just unfortunately might run into one outside the box here. VAULTING SPIRIT was right place, right time on debut in the All The Stars race but still a solid debut. ROCKING IN VEGAS is always there abouts and travels into his races really strongly.

RACE 3

STAR MARTINI was backed into a prohibitively short price last week and then was no match for fellow last start maiden winner Supersmash in the home straight. That was a 3 year old 0MWLY where she carried 57.5kg and this week she’s back into a C1 and only carries 53kg after the Jason Li claim. Far better race for her weight wise but wary that she’ll likely have to breeze and 1000m is seemingly right on her limit. WILUNA LASS is quick out and is drawn one. Whether she holds up or box seats on the back of Star Martini could be the key to how this race is run and won. JOYOH will park and ride on that pair. Tries hard. DIP IT IN A DREAM was a gutsy win on debut, but query the race form with the $1.50 pop flopping and missing a hole.

RACE 4

CHEETO made his Ben & Dan Pearce debut three weeks ago and it was a bit of a perfect storm for him, finding the wet tracks he loves, but still the form out of the race stands out with Streak of God stepping into 60+ Graduation company and getting the job done. Will get all the favours from the draw and there’s not much more depth to this than the race he comes through even though it is a higher grade. POLYVANOVA is a little ripper. Thought at one stage she was an Albany/Mt Barker horse but she’s really kept improving with age. JAVELIN STRIKE is building into the preparation quickly. Think he’ll get a trip this prep and work his way through the midweek grades. GRANDADS ADDICTION looked to be marching on straightening but faded out in the last 200. CJP clearly gets the best out of him.

RACE 5

KING OF THE TOWN won a 2000m maiden and then went 30 days into a 60+ Graduation when running second to Effortlessly. After that he went to an Aquanita Stakes before the paddock. Summer Dickson has made a name for herself winning races off a 2 – 3 month freshen/spacing with her horses and while he’s got 60.5kg and a wide gate he probably has a bit more upside than most of these. POINT GIBRALTAR changed up his racing pattern last start and went well. GOLD BEAU ran third in that same race and considering he was off a 5 week gap between runs should only be tightening further here off a more traditional fortnight. JESA LUPA was just starting to build over the last 150 last start in an improved performance.

RACE 6

COSMIC GEM was a shade disappointing last start (even though it was a 60+ Graduation) but prior to that he had been going super. Luckless first-up (wide throughout), luckless second-up (fence off day at Bunbury) and then got the job done third-up by a near 3L margin. Back in grade, back in trip and hopefully back into the winner’s circle. STREAMLINED won really well on debut and looked like she could be an emerging Peters Investments Fairtheta / WA Guineas type but he didn’t make it through the series. Raced well below his best last prep but returns here after having had a throat operation. CLASSIC RULER is the kind of horse who is suited to cutaway racing. Just needs that pad to be okay. MUST BE NICE is competitive anywhere from 1200 to 1800.

RACE 7

OCEAN GODDESS seemed to really appreciate the wet track first-up. Obviously won’t be getting those conditions again here, but what she will enjoy is a gun run from an ideal barrier draw. She’s always been a mare who promised to work her way through the grades to Saturday company, and hopefully this is her prep. VAMPI QUEEN goes from a maiden into a C3 but we’re seeing plenty of 4 year olds do it with success. The way she won last start she’ll be winning more races. Was a big turn of foot to get herself out of a bit of trouble. COSMIC TREAT did have the race set up for her last start. She and Radiant Light got a picnic out in front, running the first 800m just over 10L slower than average. AMARLIE MISS is a watch. Her trial was over 2 months ago but they’ve gone straight to Pike.
