Michael Heaton’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on April 9, 2026April 9, 2026 | Posted by Michael Heaton RACE 1 ALL ON RED got blown up first up trying to match motors with star filly Aurum Belle but he’s drawn to lead in a much inferior field now whilst also dropping 2kg after Holly Nottle’s claim. He won his first 2 starts last prep before finishing third to Beatty and a repeat of any of those performances would see him prove very hard to beat. BARRON BILL and OFFICIAL BUSINESS gapped the third-placed horse by more than 3L in a sharp recent trial and have both drawn well for their debuts. DIXIE DOO is already a winner and is the one who can sit back and charge home late. Numbers: 1-5-7-8 Suggested Bet – ALL ON RED WIN RACE 2 ACORN was a good win first up under 60kg when unsuited by the steady tempo but reeling off the fastest closing sectionals of the meeting to get up. He now steps from a C1 to a Westspeed Platinum 58+ but he has won 2 of 4 and can box seat behind Hezangelic who should give a good kick on straightening and allow him to work into the clear. STAR SUPREME resumes with the bar plates coming off and was a big fresh winner last campaign. SOLDIER OF GOD has been a hard horse to catch over the journey but he’s been going much better since dropping back to the short-course and defeated subsequent winner Niccimota 2 starts back. HEZANGELIC has placed at 5 of his last 6 starts and looks the logical leader again. Numbers: 1-8-3-4 Suggested Bet – ACORN WIN RACE 3 KAY TEE WHY is a highly progressive sprinter resuming first up, no trial and he typically flies fresh. He looks destined to settle near-last so it’ll likely be a heart-in-mouth watch but the figures his peak figures are that of a stakes horse. In Pike we trust. TYCOON HARRY was a winner at the same track, grade and distance last start and is a model of consistency who can ride the speed. CASTLE ROAD overdid it in front over 1200m last start and can improve sharply dropping back to 1000m. SIXINCH HEELS resumes at a distance short of her best but should get a lovely run. Numbers: 2-1-4-8 Suggested Bet – KAY TEE WHY WIN RACE 4 WESTERN LADY was sectionally massive in her 2 runner-up finishes as a beaten favourite before a dominant win last Saturday. She’s the progressive stayer of the race and now backs up off 7 days, drops half a kilo and draws soft stepping up to a 2400m distance that she looks like she’ll eat up. FAT ROY SLIM is a better Belmont horse but he’s a big class dropper from recent outings and reunites with W Pike who has ridden him 10 times for 4 wins and 4 minor placings. AUDIO BOY is a perennial placegetter who has finished in the money at his past 9 starts and he gets a 2kg swing on Western Lady from last week. DEADLY AND FAST has been flying in the Great Southern and will love the rise in trip. He drops out of last Sunday’s Albany Cup and has backed up twice in his life for a win and a third. Numbers: 5-1-3-2 Suggested Bet – WESTERN LADY WIN RACE 5 LADIES PRO makes her return off the back of a nice trial and she showed plenty of talent in her first race campaign last preparation. She reeled off enormous late splits to win on debut over 1000m before finishing fourth to King Of Light/Heeza Phoenix/Rock Fest in the Group 2 WA Guineas at only her third race start so she looks an exciting filly with a stack of upside. GOD’S RAPTURE is another highly talented filly resuming and her race record doesn’t do her justice. She was beaten only 1.5L by King Of Light in the Belgravia Stakes at this track/distance 2 starts back and hit the line well under double wraps in an impressive recent trial. SPLIT THE GEE an improver second-up and with a soft run along the fence. VANDOULA JET has good ability but also a tough map to overcome first up. Numbers: 5-7-3-8 Suggested Bet – LADIES PRO WIN RACE 6 OURGIRLCANRUN was brave first up when setting a blistering tempo in front and sticking on to be beaten only a length by Holler Nuff (subsequent winner) and Swingman (subsequent narrow second to Snitzalatte). She’ll likely have to burn early again to cross but she has the most natural speed in the race, drops down to the 54kg minimum and with any natural improvement should be hard to beat. FIRST BEACH trialled up well for the new yard and was good first up at this track/grade/distance. He’s a versatile type who should land in a commanding position. TOO DARN STORMY would’ve loved a bit more room to move last start but he still finished off well. Just wary he’s now been a beaten favourite at his past 3 outings and will likely get back. COUNTRY GOD looks better suited back to 1200m and with a senior on off the quick spin. Numbers: 10-3-4-2 Suggested Bet – OURGIRLCANRUN WIN RACE 7 CESSATION came of age last preparation and was terrific first up in a very high-rating Rock Magic Stakes when poorly weighted under the conditions but still finishing third to the Quokka-bound Oscar’s Fortune. At her previous start she ran second to fellow Quokka hope Smooth Chino at this track/distance in the Black Heart Bart Stakes and she now drops back to fillies & mares company and has the speed to find to the front. LONDON’S IMAGE is a classy mare who is suited under the conditions and will be looking to be the Lucy Fiore-Williams Racing combination’s fourth feature race winner from the past 10 days. BLACK ORA reeled off the fastest closing sectionals of the day first up in a race which wasn’t run to suit and now reunites with Pike who has been aboard her in each of her wins to date. TOROPA will find this much easier than last Saturday’s hot Roma Cup where she was more than sound beaten less than 3L. Numbers: 6-1-7-4 Suggested Bet – CESSATION WIN RACE 8 SEARCHIN’ TIMES has been beautifully placed in her first preparation in Summer Dickson’s care and is now looking for her fifth consecutive win. She was still able to get the job done last start despite the 1500m appearing to stretch her late and she looks better suited dropping back to 1400m here where she can land in the box-seat and track likely leader Saturday Sesh who should give a kick on straightening. POND MASTER was unlucky first up when travelling like he was going to be in the finish in a hot race but then finding trouble at the 200m mark. RALLY THE TROOPS had been plagued by bad luck for majority of his prep then romped in at midweek level last start. He drops 1kg on that run and can measure up. SATURDAY SESH can lead and dictate again. Numbers: 9-3-5-7 Suggested Bet – SEARCHIN’ TIMES WIN RACE 9 WONDERFULLY MADE looks an exceptional filly who can take it up to the boys in the WATC Derby. Her WA Oaks win was simply arrogant, she maps to land in a similar position and she’s ticked the 2400m box. She can accelerate off the back of fast or slow tempos which is a great asset and they’ll have to be good to beat her. SENTIMENTAL LEGEND has always looked a Derby type and won the Melvista Stakes with a leg in the air but he was also afforded every chance in running and now meets Arberdeen Flyer 2kg worse off. ABERDEEN FLYER was arguably a better performance in the Melvista when sustaining a big run from a long way back but looks destined to settle last again from the gate. MASMELO was no match for Wonderfully Made in the Oaks but now has a tongue tie on and will likely be ridden with cover to replicate her slashing Ascot 1000 Guineas and Natasha Stakes runs. Numbers: 7-2-1-8 Suggested Bet – WONDERFULLY MADE WIN Same Race Multi – Wonderfully Made (Top 2) + Aberdeen Flyer (Top 4) WONDERFULLY MADE is a supremely talented filly who looks capable of taking it right up to the boys. Her WA Oaks win was arrogant, she maps to settle in a similar position in running and she’s ticked the 2400m box in emphatic fashion. ABERDEEN FLYER was arguably the run of the race in the Melvista Stakes and now gets a 2kg swing on Sentimental Legend in his favour. RACE 10 DEFENDING has had a great campaign and finds another suitable assignment. His midweek win 2 starts back was huge and then he ran progressive filly Searchin’ Times to a length last time out which is form that could be further franked in a 66+ earlier in the program. He should land in a nice spot in running and his main dangers will likely settle behind him. OLD MATE HENRY hit the line very well last start and now reunites with Pike who has typically got the best out of him. HEWILLDOUS is hit and miss out of the machine but if he jumps cleanly he can play a part at a price. He drops 3kg, has a booming finish and Meryl Hayley’s yard is flying. FIFTH ESSENCE can roll forward and plug away on-speed. Numbers: 2-8-6-5 Suggested Bet – DEFENDING EACH-WAY Quaddie (Race 7 – 10) 1,6,7 3,5,6,7,9 2,7 1,2,5,6,8,9 Market Market
