RACE 1

CHER has her first start on the dirt (sand) at Collie. She has found her niche with Mitchell Pateman as a ‘road trip’ mare having saluted at Toodyay and York at her last two. Expect Alex Hearn is looking to lead and from there shell be hard to run down yet again. MIR is 6 weeks between runs but his form early in the season at Carnarvon is easily good enough to make a race of this and he’s a proven weight carrier. RIG A DIG is a hard horse to catch but is going well. TOMMY TO JACK has been to Collie 5 times and always runs well.

Numbers: 3 – 1 – 4 – 5

RACE 2 

OCEAN OUTLAW was stiff at Toodyay when crunched in betting. He was held up from barrier 1 and never got a fair crack at them. He then headed to Northam and ran into the likes of talented 3 year olds Surfside Session, Bubbles In Rio, Zouconi and Surf Patrol. None of those types in at Collie. Gets his chance. BE MY BELLE trialled quite well recently behind Frappuccino. TORQUED UP went around in a 2 year old SWP on debut at Ascot. THE KING’S WERD heads straight to Aaron Pateman after her debut for Chris & Michael Gangemi.

RACE 3

CRYSTALIST was too good for them at Toodyay and then never got into the contest at York behind Cher. If she wins Race 1 that form will look good and he’s a proven weight carried having lumped the same 61.5kg impost all the way at Toodyay. HERE NO CASH finds a new home and returns without a trial. He was a capable Broome galloper only 18 months ago. Keep safe. SOARING SOLO is quick and can be allowed to stride in this. I’M EUGENE is hard to catch but some of his recent efforts have been very encouraging.

RACE 4

LE GRAND JEU is going through all of these once a year meetings looking for his first win. Second at Toodyay to Bill Selects, second at Moora to Desert Sleeve. He’s getting closer and closer and now Steele Casey calls on the services of partner Mollie Clark. Is Saturday the day? LIVING LIKE KINGS trialled well under Alex Hearn at Lark Hill behind Latte With Pro. Put in a handy run at Esperance back in March. JATS can roll forward and hold a very prominent position in running. ROO LORD got through the surface alright at Moora two back.

Suggested Bet – LE GRAND JEU WIN

RACE 5

HAFEY ran second to Roch Legacy in the Moora Cup and is looking to go one better in the Collie Cup. He’s proven at the distance, he’s proven himself capable on different surfaces at Carnarvon and Roebourne earlier in the year and he looks capable of sustaining a run from a fair way out. Right set up for him. BLAISZEN CAZAH has been to Collie once and ran well. Alex Hearn the right rider for a one paced staying type like him. ALKALINE was well supported at York and ran well. Now shades go on and he has no weight after the Cooper Claim. HIGHBOY is a freewheeling front runner who should be suited to racing on the sand.

RACE 6

CANGGU should be your ideal Collie horse. He’s fit, he’s tough, he’s on speed and he can be allowed to roll by Austin Galati from the 600. That’s how most races are run and won at the venue and he looks perfectly placed by Team Bairstow. WINNING ACES went super at Moora in the now famous “Rock Of Kaha Can’t Win” race after making a sustained run from a mile out. JARMAN has been going well all preparation for Greg Jones. Just needs to step from barrier 1 to avoid being three back the fence in a world of kickback. DESERT SLEEVE won well at Moora to break his maiden.
