Deane Lester’s Flemington Best Bets Posted on May 13, 2022May 13, 2022 | Posted by Deane Lester RACE 7 NO.8 THROUGH IRISH EYES THROUGH IRISH EYES can secure himself a place in this year’s Melbourne Cup (3200m) with a win in the Andrew Ramsden (2800m). The four year old showed his staying prowess by winning the VRC St Leger Stakes at this track and distance in April 2021. He has been brought along steadily in this campaign by the Maher/ Eustace stable with four runs this campaign and showed that he is ready to win with his solid 2nd behind POINT NEPEAN at Caulfield on April 16. He is a better big track horse so getting back to Flemington is an advantage and Melbourne Cup winning jockey Jye McNeil takes the ride. He’s a solid stayer that should prove hard to beat. RACE 8 NO.17 TRIPLE MISSILE Western Australian sprinter TRIPLE MISSILE has gained a start in the Benchmark 100 Handicap (1400m) and appeals as the best bet of the day. The four year old resumed from a spell with a very good 4th behind FRANKIE PINOT in the Wangoom Handicap at Warrnambool on May 4. He covered a lot of ground in the run on that occasion which only added merit to the run and the extra distance of this race should be to his liking. He is drawn for a good run and seems very well weighted with just 53kg in this race; clearly the one to beat. RACE 9 NO.7 ROCK PROPHET ROCK PROPHET has a liking for the Flemington straight and looks good each way value when he tackles the Benchmark 84 Handicap (1000m). The five year old, from the in-form Ray Besanko stable, produced some of the best sectionals of the day when finishing 8th behind IN THE BOAT in the $500,000 Country Discovery (1100m) at Sale on April 15. That was a stakes class race so he drops in grade and he’s a winner here. Any give in the ground would be a bonus and ROCK PROPHET is poised to run a peak race for this preparation. Market Market
