Deane Lester’s Caulfield Best Bets Posted on May 6, 2022May 6, 2022 | Posted by Deane Lester RACE 4 NO.11 CRESTANI CRESTANI will be fitter for one run back from a short break and appeals as a value runner when he contests the Benchmark 78 Handicap (1200m). The four year old raced in the worst ground when finishing 6th behind BEEHUNTER over 1200 metres at Flemington on April 25. He is better suited here and the wide draw shouldn’t be a disadvantage as he should race close to the pace. In-form rider Blaike McDougall takes the mount and he looks a good each way bet. RACE 6 NO.2 CLEMENCEAU The most progressive horse at the Caulfield meeting looks to be CLEMENCEAU who should continue on his winning way when he runs in the Three Year Old Handicap (1200m). The son of Capitalist is building an imposing record with four wins from his five starts to date including a dominant last start win against older horses over 1100 metres at Caulfield on April 16. Whilst he will start one of the shortest priced favourites on the Caulfield program, CLEMENCEAU should win again and appeals as the best bet of the day. RACE 7 NO.8 UNCLE BRYN Another horse destined for better class races is the imported galloper UNCLE BRYN who looks the one to beat when he tackles the Benchmark 100 Handicap (1600m). The Busuttin/ Young trained gelding has had two Australian starts for a luckless 3rd at Sandown before a dominant win in the Up and Comers Class 3 Handicap (1500m) at Sale on April 15. That race was worth $150,000 and attracted a field of promising gallopers yet UNCLE BRYN defeated them easily in the manner of a quality horse. This race sets up well for him and he gets the services of Melbourne’s leading rider Jye McNeil so everything is in place for him to win again as he races through the grades. Market Market
