Deane Lester’s Sandown Best Bets Posted on April 29, 2022April 29, 2022 | Posted by Deane Lester RACE 4 NO.9 COMMANDS THE FIELD Handy filly COMMANDS THE FIELD returned to winning form last start and should prove hard to beat again when she contests the Fillies and Mares Benchmark 78 Handicap (1300m). The Busuttin/ Young trained galloper ran a series of placings before finishing strongly to win over 1200 metres at Sandown Lakeside on April 6. She defied the pattern of the day on that occasion and looks ready for a step up in class. She handles all conditions and looks one of the better bets of the day. RACE 5 NO.4 MY YANKEE GIRL The 3yo Fillies Benchmark 70 Handicap (1300m) looks an open affair with a host of chances, however MY YANKEE GIRL will be fitter for one run this campaign and appeals as a good each way play. The daughter of Street Boss raced in restricted room when finishing a first-up 5th behind NAJMATY over 1100 metres at Caulfield on April 16. She will appreciate getting onto a bigger track, looks drawn for a good run and any rain would only enhance her prospects. In-form lightweight rider Dean Holland takes the mount and MY YANKEE GIRL should run another bold race. RACE 7 NO.2 BELLE SAVOIR BELLE SAVOIR suffered her first defeat last start, however she is well placed again to return to the winners list when she runs in the Three Year Old Handicap (1600m). The Nick Ryan trained filly won her first two starts at Ballarat and Sandown Hillside before her last start 4th behind ADELE AMOUR over 1400 metres at Caulfield on April 9. She didn’t enjoy the best of runs on that occasion, mainly due to the tight Caulfield track so she will relish getting back to the spacious Sandown Hillside track. She is on a path which, hopefully, culminates in next month’s Queensland Oaks (2200m) at Eagle Farm so the step up in distance will be in her favour. Melbourne’s leading rider Jye McNeil takes the mount and BELLE SAVOIR should prove hard to beat. Market Market
