Scott Embry’s Saturday Kalgoorlie Preview Posted on March 25, 2022March 25, 2022 | Posted by Scott Embry Race 1 BLACK SPIRIT heads to Kalgoorlie under the SJ Miller banner and may well find herself staying and join the stables of Neil Dellar if history is anything to go by. Thought her last start effort was strong behind Market Stryke and back to 1300m she can bounce on the lead and prove hard to run down in the opening meeting at the KBRC. Love a leader at Kal, especially on opening day. TOTAL LOCKDOWN will also likely stay in Kalgoorlie. Races here for S.A Miller but expecting next outing will be for MR Peter Fernie. Honest type but no world beater. ISHINCA VIEW has been up for ages but continues to race well. TENNESSEE LANE has shown glimpses. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – BLACK SPIRIT WIN Race 2 JACKPOT LEGEND and YOYOS look to have a class edge on rivals here in this 1100m C2. Both are first-up, both off 147 days and both are capable of going through the grades this time in. Siding up with JACKPOT LEGEND in his second campaign for MR Peter Fernie and banking on the dominant win at the end of last campaign. Think he is best served jumping, running and trying to break them open and from barrier 3 he gets his chance to lead and win. YOYOS beat him home two starts ago and would be no surprise to see her beat him here. Nothing much between them. FIRST MOMENT has raced well for Neville Parnham in the metro area and drops significant weight (depending on who rides with Taj Dyson unavailable after being placed under AFL Covid-19 protocols). CITY RANSOM has been alright of late. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – JACKPOT LEGEND WIN Race 3 SOLARIZE is a big pick-up ride for Angie Johnston here because this horse went through the grades in brilliant fashion at the end of the 2020/21 Kalgoorlie season. Won back to back 58+ races under Clint Johnston-Porter and importantly was a first-up, no trial winner at the very start of the campaign back in Bunbury so ticks the box as a horse who can be produced fresh. No barrier trials at Kalgoorlie means there will be trust issues with a number of yards but thinking that Brett Drury (who rides his own work) can get him up and going fresh. OUR DANNI looks the logical danger on paper and awfully hard to beat if she brings anywhere near her best. Looks a great mare to take through the country grades after measuring up in town over the last two seasons. REBEL YELL is honest and consistent but doesn’t win many. WATTOS FURY is a KBRC specialist. Numbers: 5 – 4 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – SOLARIZE WIN Race 4 BELLA SPRITE is first-up no trial making her return in a Kalgoorlie maiden. At her last outing she finished less than 3L off So Birikkino and even on debut only 4.7L off Ground Braker and Astrape doesn’t look bad form for this. Going to put the filly on top on speculation. Think she has ability. NITRO FRED and SPINALONG TIME both leave Jim Taylor’s yard and both head to emerging young trainer (his words not mine) Joshua Brown. Like the use of the Alcina money to buy a couple of maidens and both should be winning races for him. Both speedy and both suited to Kalgoorlie style racing. PEDAL POWER ran second on debut at $1.90 at Wangaratta. Nice get for new trainer Justin Robins. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 8 – 4 Suggested Bet – BELLA SPRITE WIN Race 5 TOWN HALL is first-up for John Arthur Mason who has a brilliant Kalgoorlie strike-rate. Since arriving in the Goldfields he has produced 26 runners for 7 winners at 27%. Like Lincoln’s Law the horse didn’t fire a solitary shot in one run at Esperance but Kalgoorlie is a different kettle of fish. Worth a throw at the stumps. LINCOLNS LAW didn’t go a yard in Esperance and has been given a 2 month freshen up and aims up at the opening Kalgoorlie meeting. Has finished second to Pure Devotion, second to Spritely Star and second to She’s A Sweet Deel. There’s something to work with there. MODERN TIMES improved sharply last start. Jump and run type. EMERALD ROSE next best. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – TOWN HALL WIN Race 6 THE VERDICT is the first runner for (Grand)son of a Gun Nicholas James Thomas. Following in the footsteps of his older brother Jayden (Justin) and his pop, the legendary John Eaton, Nicholas produces his first starter in the former Colin Webster trained mare The Verdict. Last start carried 61kg in the Rose of York and finished third behind subsequent Saturday Ascot winner Stella Fair and now drops 4kg. 1200m might be on the short side for her but if she can find the front she’ll give a sight. SNIPPIRANHA won the Esperance heat of the Tabtouch Regional Championship Series beating Double Spice and Premium Choice. That’s excellent form for this. Big danger. KNIGHT TEMPEST won at the opening meeting last year off 188 days and attacks this off 147. No reason why he can’t reproduce the result. WHIM CREEK is going well again. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – THE VERDICT WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 4,5 1,4,6,8 1,2,5 1,2,3,4,5 Market Market
