Deane Lester’s Flemington Best Bets Posted on March 18, 2022March 18, 2022 | Posted by Deane Lester RACE 3 NO.1 YONCE Unbeaten mare YONCE appears perfectly placed to keep her winning record intact when she contests The Mystic Journey (2000m). The four year old has won five races on end, starting with a debut win over 1200 metres at Mornington before subsequent victories at Sandown Hillside, Caulfield and then two recent victories at Flemington including a stunning last start win over 1600 metres on March 5. She looks ready for her next challenge which is stepping up to 2000 metres and she’s very well weighted under a compressed weight scale. John Allen is enjoying a stellar season in the saddle and has partnered YONCE in her past four victories. He retains the ride again and, despite the short price, represents the standout bet of the day. RACE 4 NO.13 FIASCO TESS There looks a lot of value at this Flemington meeting with plenty of depth in most races and FIASCO TESS has an undeniable chance at good each way odds when she runs in the VOBIS Gold Reef (1600m). The David Brideoake trained filly appeared quite unlucky when finishing a first-up 7th behind LAVISH GIRL in the Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 26. She was held up at a crucial stage of the race yet still finished sweetly over the final 200 metres. That’s a good form reference for this class of race, she will be fitter for that run and the extra distance of this race suits. It’s a very competitive race with a host of chances but FIASCO TESS is poised to run well at generous odds. RACE 8 NO.6 GRANDSLAM Caulfield Cup winner JAMEKA’S younger brother GRANDSLAM will be fitter for one run back from a long spell and looks a good chance of improving at each way odds when he contests The Regal Power (2000m). The four year old endured a wide run and was outsprinted but still found the line nicely when finishing 10th behind CORNER POCKET over 1400 metres at Flemington on February 19. He will be better for that run and should be fitter courtesy of a solid 1400 metres jumpout at Cranbourne on March 7, the step up in distance is in his favour and he has a solid second-up record. Jamie Kah takes the ride and GRANDSLAM should improve sharply in this race. Market Market
