Deane Lester’s Caulfield Best Bets Posted on July 24, 2020 | Posted by Deane Lester RACE 3 NO.1 OUR CAMPANA OUR CAMPANA has quickly found form since joining the Peter Moody stable and looks the testing material again when she contests the Fillies and Mares Benchmark 90 Handicap (1100m). The four year old has built a fine record of six wins from 13 starts including a first-up win over this track/ distance on July 11. She will be fitter for that run, gets the benefit of Campbell Rawiller’s 3kg claim and the prospect of a dry track only enhances her prospects. She has drawn for a cheap run and only requires an ounce of luck to get clear running and OUR CAMPANA should win again. RACE 5 NO.3 CHASSIS Trainer John Price always has a good city class horse in his stable and CHASSIS looks ready to win at Saturday grade when she contests the 3YO Fillies Handicap (1200m). The daughter of Al Maher was responsible for a sensational first up performance coming from well back off a wide draw to record a fast finishing 2nd behind BLESS HER over 1100 metres at Caulfield on July 11. She will be fitter for that run, should appreciate stepping up in distance on drier ground and appears poised to race closer in the run this time. Whilst there are some talented fillies in this race, CHASSIS appears destined for better things and represents one of the better bets of the day. RACE 9 NO.1 MYSTERY SHOT Another runner at Caulfield with a WA flavour is the Lindsay Smith trained MYSTERY SHOT who is aiming for five consecutive wins when he contests the 3YO Handicap (1400m). The unbeaten son of Shooting To Win was totally dominant carrying 61.5kg to win effortlessly over 1400 metres at Caulfield on July 11. That run showed that is better than the three year olds racing at this time of year and he looks attractively weighted in this race with 58.5kg, a 3kg weight drop on his last run. He is drawn for a sweet run and elite rider Michael Rodd is building a fine rapport with MYSTERY SHOT, who stands out as the best bet of the day. Market Market
