Ralph Horowitz’ Sandown Best Bets Posted on June 14, 2019 | Posted by Ralph Horowitz Ralph Horowitz’ Best Bets Race 3 No. 2 Malibu Style (Save No. 5 William Thomas) WA sprinter Malibu Style gets his absolutely perfect set up here stalking Jungle Edge who last start went too slowly in front at Caulfield, and that left William Thomas in an impossible position too far back. Doubt that will be a problem here as the jockey change will see Poy let him run, but stepping from 1100 to 1200 without a heavy track, for mine, will see him too vulnerable late. Malibu Style however probably only needs to match his Warrnambool 2nd in the Wangoom – also on a soft track – 01/05 to win this. Back him and save William Thomas who was excellent winning at Caulfield 2nd up 11/05 and should be charging hard late. Race 4 No. 9 Beerz With Clint This looks his target to peak 3rd up with Ollie sticking and 54kgs his absolute minimum weight. (Will probably be 0.5kgs over.) Sound 2nd best last 800 of the day return here on the Hillside track 08/05, before last start at Flemington again sound with the 4th best last 800, but note only the 24th best last 200 showing he was short of fitness. Last prep his very solid Moonee Valley win 21/12 was on soft ground and when on speed. That was his only career win to date, but this is a very basic Saturday city race. Keep the place on side with a 2 x 3 play. Race 5 No. 1 Pacodali Looks a good thing and anything “black and white” odds is a bonus! Got away with a bludge in winning last start at Caulfield off a very soft tempo, but when apprentice Nugent who rides again asked for a sprint it was a very solid 15th best last 400 of the day at the end of 2000 metres. Stays in this distance range and stays on soft going which he thrives on. Is now rock hard fit after four runs, and note last winter at Caulfield over 1800 beat last week’s Brisbane Cup winner Sixties Groove and last spring’s McKinnon winner Trap For Fools in very sharp time showing the scope for improvement.
