Deane Lester’s Caulfield Best Bets Posted on April 12, 2019 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Best Bets RACE 4 NO.3 STEEL PRINCE Progressive stayer STEEL PRINCE has returned to racing in brilliant form and looks the one to beat again when he contests the Open Handicap (2425m). The five year old has really developed of late having won four of his past six starts including two wins at his only two runs for the Anthony Freedman stable. He was strong winning over 2000 metres at Mornington on March 23 and will relish a step up in distance. Promising apprentice Michael Poy takes the 3kg claim here and STEEL PRINCE just looks to have more upside than his rivals; should be winning again. RACE 5 NO.3 TRANSACT TRANSACT should be fitter for recent racing and looks the value runner in the Galilee Series Final (2425m). The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained gelding jumped sharply in distance when finishing a last start 3rd behind SECRET BLAZE over 2200 metres at Bendigo on March 30. That run should have brought him to peak fitness and he’ll be ridden to make his own luck on the pace. In-form rider Linda Meech takes the ride and TRANSACT appeals on an each way basis. RACE 8 NO.3 EDUARDO EDUARDO is a quality sprinter that has been freshened since his unplaced effort in last month’s Newmarket Handicap and should take a power of beating when he contests the Bel Esprit Stakes (1100m). The five year old ran a brilliant first-up 3rd behind BOOKER in the Oakleigh Plate (1100m) before being below his best when finishing 16th behind SUNLIGHT in the Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on March 9. He trialled like a winner at Cranbourne on Monday and should prove too classy for this field. Market Market
