Deane’s Saturday Sandown Best Bets Posted on May 25, 2018 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Preview RACE 3 NO. 8 LYCURGUS LYCURGUS is racing in solid form and looks the one to beat when he runs in the Benchmark 90 Handicap (2400m). The four year old ran a luckless 7th over 2000 metres at Caulfield on April 28 before scoring the easiest of wins over 2400 metres at Sandown Hillside on May 9. He has built a solid record at this distance of two wins and two placings from 5 starts and looks ideally graded in this race. Champion rider Damien Oliver takes the ride and LYCURGUS appeals as the best bet of the day. SuperPick - RACE 3 NO. 8 LYCURGUS - Money Back RACE 6 NO. 1 LUCKY FOR ALL Former NZ stayer LUCKY FOR ALL has created a strong impression with three consecutive wins in Australia and should continue on his winning way when he runs in the Three Year Old Handicap (2100m). The Darren Weir trained gelding was impressive in winning at Terang and Warrnambool before progressing to city class and recording a strong win over 2000 metres at Caulfield on May 12. He is very well graded again from a good barrier draw and gets the benefit of Ethan Brown’s 2kg claim. He is bound for next month’s Queensland Derby (2200m) and this looks the logical progression; should win again. RACE 7 NO. 9 JAWS OF STEEL JAWS OF STEEL is starting to fulfil his potential since joining the Darren Weir stable and looks a strong winning chance again when he contests the Samson Handicap (1400m). The four year old has only had three starts for the stable for two wins and a placing including a brave last start win over 1400 metres at Caulfield on May 12. He is building fitness and confidence with recent racing, and appears well graded again from a good draw. In-form apprentice Ben Allen takes the mount and JAWS OF STEEL looks a genuine hope of completing a hat trick of wins. Bet Now
