Greg’s Wednesday Ascot Preview Posted on March 8, 2017 | Posted by Greg Hooper Greg Hooper’s Preview RACE 1 Start the day with a very average maiden. CLEVER DICK has been knocking on the door all campaign. He should settle closer from gate 2 and with clear room goes close. MEN OF MUKINBUDIN resumes from a spell at 1500m which is an ask however he showed ability in both runs last campaign and should beat most on ability alone. TRADE SEARCH has probably run out of chances but should be around the mark. OUR MAORI BOY has first four claims. Numbers – 8 – 6 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – CLEVER DICK AND MEN OF MUKINBUDIN RACE 2 MEDIA BARON has no luck on debut and was immediately tipped out for a spell. If he can cross from his wide gate he’s the one to beat. WATCHIT has only been seen once at the trials but did impress. EXPRESSELLA was well thought of on debut however after getting nowhere near the early speed she never figured. This looks much easier and improvement is expected. PURE GEM makes his debut for the powerful Pike/Morton combination. Numbers – 1 – 9 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – MEDIA BARON WIN RACE 3 SUMMER’S DREAM improved sharply second-up when leading from start to finish. She should be able to find the front again and be hard to run down. ZIN BANG WOP was caught wide in the same race and battled on strongly. She may get stranded wide again from the outside draw. RESISTANCE has shown ability at the trials. REYKJAVIK can tag the speed and get into the first-four. Numbers – 2 – 4 – 9 – 1 Suggested Bet – SUMMER’S DREAM WIN RACE 4 QUILISTA has returned in brilliant form this campaign winning both starts including a dominant 5 length at her most recent outing at Bunbury. She should lead and be very hard to run down. REMEMBER BERLIN resumes from a spell with the benefit of a strong trial effort. He goes well fresh and is the clear danger. SECRET DOUBT will find this harder than last start but looks the third pick. SUPPOSITION can flop into the first-four. Numbers – 8 – 2 – 6 – 3 Suggested Bet – QUILISTA WIN RACE 5 This looks an open start to the quaddie. MR AFRICAN has been racing well without being able to crack it for a win. This looks slightly easier and Ryan Hill has a good record aboard him. AMERICAN STAR should be primed at his third run back from a spell. He improved sharply last start. RIPPER RED is hard to catch however he does possess a big finish and if the closers are figuring he’ll be in the finish. RUBY CAN RUN trialled well for her return. Suggested – 4 – 5 – 11 – 3 Suggested Bet – MR AFRICAN WIN RACE 6 LATAKIA FRIARS broke her maiden with a strong win at Bunbury over 2038m. The drop back to 1800m is a slight query however if she can get a drag into the race she’ll take some holding out. DELANTERO made a mess of an average bunch at Geraldton. He’s another who is probably looking further than the 1800m but looms as the main danger. BURNING MAGIC jumps from 1200m but she beats most on ability alone. GRAND CADEAU looks a one paced grinder however he can work into his way into the first-four. Numbers – 7 – 2 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet – LATAKIA FRIARS SAVE DELANTERO SuperPick - Race 6 No. 7 LATAKIA FRIARS - Money Back – Run 2nd RACE 7 MELTING POINT should appreciate the drop back to 1400m. He’ll sit right behind the speed from gate 1 and get every chance. TUCKY’S LAD is hard to catch but gate 5 and Autier on both appear positives. SIRIUS PROSPECT ran well two back and then didn’t get the best of luck at Pinjarra. KNUCKLE DOWN has claims. Numbers- 4 – 6 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – MELTING POINT WIN RACE 8 FREMOND broke a long drought last start with a dominant win in similar grade. He should get the favours from a good draw and goes close again. WATIJADOO has produced consecutive strong wins. From gate 1 he can lead or box seat. BLACK SMUGGLER resumes from a spell over a mile which is a query but he does have plenty of ability. SEBRING SPY can improve with the shades going on. Numbers – 6 – 1 – 4 – 8 Suggested Bet – FREMOND WIN QUADDIE Race 5 – 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 11 Race 6 – 2, 6, 7 Race 7 – 1, 3, 4, 6 Race 8 – 1, 4, 6, 8, 13 Bet Now
