Scott Embry’s Thursday Northam Preview

Race 1

LONG SHANKS pretty much sat three deep and last over 1600m last start when beaten 6.5L behind Trickster, Forever Victorious and Atsui Haru. At only start number three he is out to a full 2200m and he looks a real one batter. In a horrendous maiden going to speculate on him at double figures. SYLVA JACK is through the same race and beat him home by 2L. Don’t think there’s that much between them, except in their likely SPs. OBSCENTINO has more or less been on one big elongated preparation for a year. He had 7 runs, then a 44 day let-up, before another 13 runs, a 62 day freshen and now he’s 5 starts into another campaign. He’s a 34 start maiden – can he win? Probably. Will he win? At ~$3.50? Not willing to find out. MAJOR MAGNUS got out to a staying trip for the first time this preparation and ran well enough behind Consolidated and Hesnotallthere.

Numbers: 6 – 4 – 1 – 3

Suggested Bet – LONG SHANKS EACHWAY

Race 2

PEAK TYCOON went around behind Anaconda Jones and Barron Bill on debut and then was immediately tipped out. Based on the two barrier trials this time around it looks on face value like she’s come back bigger and stronger and the stable go immediately to a set of blinkers first-up. Drawn sticky but looks to have some ability. SPLINTABELLE has only had two trials, both over 400m and both in a previous campaign. She was last seen at Lark Hill on February 2nd when going to the line locked together with Run Rupert Run in a dash up where they broke clear of rivals. She’s got some jump and run talent but you’re really trusting in David Harrison to have her fit enough on debut without a public barrier trial. SECOND DRAFT may have to drag back but expect him to finish powerfully late. TEX N CEE is out of a Group One winning mare and was still building in the trial.

Numbers: 5 – 8 – 2 – 3

Suggested Bet – PEAK TYCOON WIN

Race 3

GODS CHOICE was thrown in the deep end on debut straight into a Gimcrack Stakes off an all the way barrier trial win. After a spell she again headed straight to the top end of racing by resuming without a barrier trial in a 2 year old Saturday behind Rifleman and Quedjinup and the fact that she jumped a well supported $6.50 chance in that event further enhances the opinion that the stable/market hold on her. Has now had a trial and 40 days later heads to an all age maiden with only 53.5kg. Looks an odds on pop? CARTIER GLOW is speedy but did hit a big brick wall over the last 100m on debut. Drops 1.5kg into an all age maiden, has the speed to cross and should keep improving. SALVE REGINA hasn’t got into the contest recently. DIP IT IN A DREAM follows the fence around.

Numbers: 9 – 7 – 5 – 8

Suggested Bet – GODS CHOICE WIN

Race 4

BRINSON led and won a Yarra Valley maiden back in December of 2025 with a horse called Celestial Zara back in third, now a metro winner and a 2x provincial winner since. Has been hit and miss throughout her short career and quite simply she has looked lost without the fence to follow. So expecting that Lucy Fiore here will look to hold up and lead and this is nice placement back into a lowly 46+. Can bounce back after a lacklustre WA debut. WINTER BLOOM is still a maiden, however, she has run fourth to Flying Maradona and Tag Time, third to The Rocket and most recently contested a 3 year old Saturday. She’ll jump favourite in this? MANTUA ran really well behind Blue Can Talk last week. First show of form in a long while. STATE OF FURY’s last win was a 46+. Right placement.

Numbers: 1 – 9 – 6 – 2

Suggested Bet – BRINSON WIN

Race 5

BLUE SPARX ran well on debut in a high rating 2 year old maiden behind Quedjinup, was backed as if unbeatable in a 1200m maiden second-up behind Eye of the Sun and Force Field (beating home Raw Umber) and then got the job done at his third outing beating Boutique Belle. Getting better and better with racing, maps a treat and looks to get the run of the race here as he attempts to win back to back races. Right set up. DON’T WINK has a senior rider going on after back to back minors with a 3kg claimer. She’s again drawn awkwardly and will be desperate to find a back to follow early. GLORANARDO was really strong late last start in a race where they turned the speed on early and middle stages. SILENT ARMARDA trucked into the contest last week and maybe didn’t run out 1400?

Numbers: 6 – 3 – 2 – 7

Suggested Bet – BLUE SPARX WIN

Race 6

SAISOKU gave poor Taj Dyson nightmares last week. It was a day where the Northam track was a Heavy9 and you simply had to get yourself to the outside fence and stay well away from the inside 5-6 lanes. Unfortunately, Saisoku wanted to lay inwards aggressively, even against the left hand whip and desperate steering and that saw him head to more and more inferior ground. 7 days later, he backs up with a bubble cheeker applied and hopefully that will see him go straighter and break through. FOREVER VICTORIOUS was ridden for speed last start and it was nearly a winning move. She doesn’t have a turn of foot so why not put her into the contest early again. RUTHLESS BLOOM has been there abouts all preparation and hopefully the fence is okay(ish). MAGNIFICENT PRINCE trialled like a horse who would be winning races early in his career.

Numbers: 1 – 8 – 9 – 12

Suggested Bet – SAISOKU WIN

Race 7

CLASSIC IMPACT had her first start for new trainer Dan O’Connor in a 66+ 1400 behind In Confidence before heading to a 66+ 1650 second-up when breezing and fading out to finish a fairly disappointing 9th beaten 7L. She dropped 2 points and now finds herself in the lowest graded race she has seen since November 2025. In fact – 14 of her last 15 outings have been in higher grade and she’s a 60+ Graduation winner in a C3. It’s a nice race for her. PURE MAC has returned in great order and it’s only a matter of time until he wins one. Caught the eye first-up behind Late Arrival in a 0MWLY and then pushed handy midweek type Back to Bondi in a fast run C1 second-up. Should be ready now. POINT ROCKS sneaks back in grade from a pair of C5 runs. HYPE MACHINE was out of the race from the 800 last Wednesday.

Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 4

Suggested Bet – CLASSIC IMPACT EACHWAY
