Deane’s Saturday Flemington Best Bets Posted on March 3, 2017March 3, 2017 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Preview RACE 2 NO. 2 HEATHERLY High quality mare HEATHERLY should be fitter for one run back from a break and looks the one to beat when she contests the Bob Hoysted Handicap (1000m). The four year old was far from disgraced when finishing sixth behind Terra Vista in the Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on February 18. This is a much easier assignment and she looks the class runner of this field; should be winning. RACE 4 NO. 8 PORTMAN The rapidly developing Portman should continue on his winning way when he tackles the Mitty’s Handicap (1600m). The four-year-old has won three of his four starts this preparation since returning to racing as a gelding. This is another step up in class for him however he looks destined for good class races and should win his fourth race for this preparation. On a tough program, PORTMAN represents the best bet of the day. SuperPick - RACE 4 NO. 8 PORTMAN - Profit Plus – 25% (Win) RACE 8 NO. 3 NORTHWEST PASSAGE NORTHWEST PASSAGE has been a revelation in recent weeks for the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable and looks a legitimate winning chance again when he contests the Roy Higgins Quality (2600m). The three-year-old is building and imposing record, having won 5 of his six starts to date and looks a stayer of genuine talent. He was dominant in winning the Torney Night Cup (2500m) at Moonee Valley on February 20 and this looks another suitable option. He will race near the lead and should prove hard to catch again.
