Greg Hooper’s Ascot Preview Posted on December 9, 2016December 12, 2016 | Posted by Greg Hooper Greg Hooper’s Preview RACE 1 The debutantes appear to have the edge in this two-year-old sprint. CHANTILLY GIANT hails from a strong camp and has been tuned with three trials. The blinkers go on for race track debut. FIVE DEGREES looked sharp in her trial win. ART SERIES is another trial winner from the Macauliffe yard. ROYAL STRATA has trialled well in blinkers since her first-up failure. Numbers – 5 – 6 – 4 – 10 Suggested Bet – CHANTILLY GIANT AND FIVE DEGREES RACE 2 RAGAZZO D’ORO has run very well in the Fairetha and WA Guineas. This is a big drop in class and he should be shaking his maiden tag. DRAGON COMMANDER broke through at Northam with an emphatic all the way win. He leads again and looks the only danger to the favourite. REEF KEEPER put in an encouraging debut effort. AT THE READY beat a weak bunch at Bunbury. He has place claims. Numbers – 1 – 2 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – RAGAZZO D’ORO WIN RACE 3 DJANGO hasn’t had the best of luck at either of his last two starts. Provided he can gets some room to move approaching the straight he can work home into the money. ASTRONOMITE produced a grinding win last start. He tags the speed again and goes close again. SPECIAL DELIVERY warmed up late in the Carbine Club. DENDEE is a slight risk at the the trip however she has returned to racing better than ever. Numbers – 2 – 5 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – DJANGO AND ASTRONOMITE RACE 4 This could turn into a tactical event and all six runners have some claims. VEGA MAGIC is untried at the 1400m however he should be able to lead or breeze and if he can control the tempo and crank it up from the 600m he could be hard to catch. FIRST AMONG EQUALS was enormous in the Winterbottom. He’s another who is a slight query at the trip but the small field should his racing pattern. The 3YO LUSAHA comes off an impressive win in last week’s Lee Steere Stakes. CHOCOLATE HOLIC next best. Numbers – 3 – 1 – 6 – 4 Suggested Bet – VEGA MAGIC WIN RACE 5 MALIBU STYLE looks very well placed in this year’s R.S. Crawford Stakes. He improved sharply second-up when lumping 60.5kg and finishing in the placings. The 1000m is his pet trip and he drops 5.5kg. REBEL KING is a good fresh horse. He’s trialled well and Pike rides. BOURNE SUPREMACY ran well in the Colonel Reeves. SMOKO can cross to lead or breeze and has claims. Numbers – 5 – 1 – 6 -2 Suggested Bet – MALIBU STYLE WIN SuperPick - Race 5 No. 5 MALIBU STYLE - Profit Plus – 25% (Win) RACE 6 HAY MAGIC will appreciate the drop back to 1800m and from gate 1 she should get a soft run and finish powerfully. SIGIL has been good in all three runs this campaign. He’s drawn a gate in which he should be able to get all the favours. Pike goes onto CARALABEK. FIRST AFFAIR is flying and will appreciate a genuinely run race. Numbers – 8 – 7 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet – HAY MAGIC AND SIGIL RACE 7 DARK ALERT has been knocking on the door this campaign. He parks right behind the speed from a good gate and should get every mortal in running. The stable mate KIA ORA KOUTOU is another who is very close to another win. DARK MUSKET is crying out for the rise in trip. STAR EXHIBIT steps up in trip after a strong win over a mile. Numbers – 4 – 9 – 8 – 6 Suggested Bet – DARK ALERT WIN RACE 8 BIG CAROLINE has won her last three starts when racing over this journey including her latest at Bunbury where she toyed with them with 60.5kg. Pike retains the ride and she gets significant weight relief. LENIENCE put in a shocker last start. His prior form though was terrific and if you can forgive him for that he goes close. RED PUBLISHER is always a chance at this level. BRISANTO is talented and has claims fresh. Numbers – 6 – 4 – 8 – 11 Suggested Bet – BIG CAROLINE WIN Bet Now
