The race held Listed status from 1985 to 1998 and Group 3 status from 1999. It was run over 1200m in 1982-1986, 1998, 1991 and 1992. The 2016 edition of the Asian Beau Stakes (1400m) has attracted 12 entries. Asian Beau Stakes History-Trainers: Bunbury horseman, Ross Price, holds the most wins in the Asian Beau Stakes, preparing his first in 1987 with Power Prince and in subsequent years Medicine Kid (1989), Pago Escort (1992) and Colour Correct (2010). Wally Mitchell is the only trainer that has won the Asian Beau Stakes on multiple occasions including the inaugural edition with Nitro Lad (1982), Future Edition (1991) and Bold Extreme (1996). Paula Wagg, with Balmont Girl, can become the most successful female trainer of the Asian Beau Stakes. Wagg, Christine Stelmach (Wild Target) and Paige Kenney (Westriver Kevydonn) are the only girls to prepare an Asian Beau Stakes winner. Balmont Girl, who defeated Black Heart Bart in 2014, is looking to become the first horse to win the race on multiple occasions. Adam Durrant won last year’s Asian Beau Stakes with Real Love, his father Geoff, in partnership with Jason Miller, will aim to win their first with returning mare, Tick Tick Bloom and Northerly Stakes runner-up, Ideal Image. Alana Williams can score her second success in the Asian Beau Stakes after riding Fair Alert (2000), she trains Heart Starter and Neverland in partnership with her husband and co-trainer, Grant Williams. Rhys Radford, who has Great Shot entered for the $150,000 feature, can join his father on the honour roll. Warren Radford, trained, Track Jester in 2003. Justin Warwick can also match the feat of his father, Trevor Warwick, who put the polish on Crimson Medal (1990). Justin Warwick prepares gun mare Wink And A Nod. Neville Parnham is searching for his maiden victory after five previous placings: (Tool Time), (Slideaway), (Tarzi), (Elliotto) and (God Has Spoken). Bass Straight is looking to break the deadlock. The late Michael Pateman enjoyed an Asian Beau Stakes win with Willoughby in 1998. Pateman’s brother, Jason, will saddle Showy Chloe on Saturday. Asian Beau Stakes History-Jockey’s: Pat Carbery has had more success in the Asian Beau Stakes than any other rider. He will chase a sixth win aboard Tick Tick Bloom after earlier wins on Westriver Kevydonn (2012), Gilded Venom (2008), Umah (1999), Look Of Success (1997) and Classy Dresser (1994). Shaun O’Donnell sits second on the Asian Beau rider’s tally with three wins: Balmont Girl (2014), Luckygray (2011) and Kasabian (2009). His hopes for a fourth triumph rest with Balmont Girl. Peter Knuckey (Platinum Rocker) and (Willoughby), Paul Harvey (Colour Correct) and (Wild Target), Jason Whiting (Track Jester) and (Rock Of Cashel) Stephen Miller (Questilla) and (Old Fashion), Troy Jackman (Asian Incline) and (Lynsted Lad) and Jason Oliver (Power Prince) and (Crimson Medal) are dual winners. Jason Whiting is the only rider to win the race in consecutive years. William Pike, on Heart Starter, can go back-to-back after piloting home Real Love (2015). Jarrad Noske (Wink And A Nod), Joe Azzopardi (Ideal Image), Peter Hall (Neverland), Craig Staples (Great Shot), Brad Parnham (Respondent), Alan Kennedy (Showy Chloe), Steven Parnham (Bass Strait) and Jake Casey (Stocks) can post their first wins. Belgravia Stakes History: Barriers Tick Tick Bloom will look to extend barrier three as the most successful starting position in the Asian Beau Stakes. Barrier five has enjoyed four wins and gates one, six, seven, nine and ten have scored three victories apiece. On Saturday Balmont Girl jumps from gate five, Respondent in one, Great Shot six, Stocks seven, Heart Starter nine and Testamezzo ten. Belgravia Stakes History-Gender: Bass Strait, Great Shot, Heart Starter, Respondent, Stocks and Testamezzo will be out to maintain the dominance of geldings, who have won the race on 20 occasions. Since 1982 mares have been successful just six times, but have dominated the race since 2013 with the past three winners. Wink And A Nod, Balmont Girl, Ideal Image, Neverland, Showy Chloe, and Tick Tick Bloom are the girls represented in 2016. Belgravia Stakes History-Age 16 four-year-olds, 10 five-year-olds, four six-year-olds, three seven-year-olds and one eight-year-old have won the Asian Beau Stakes. Great Shot, Heart Starter and Showy Chloe represent the four-year-olds in the 2016 edition of the Asian Beau Stakes. Ideal Image, Neverland and Stocks carry hopes for the five-year-olds, Balmont Girl, Respondent, Testamezzo and Tick Tick Bloom are six-year-olds. Wink And A Nod and Bass Strait are the two oldest horses in the race as seven-year-olds. Belgravia Stakes History-Previous Starts. Since 2000 four winners of the Asian Beau have won their lead-up race, two were successful first up and six were placed. Heart Starter, Respondent, Stocks, Testamezzo and Tick Tick Bloom are racing first-up this preparation.
