Greg Hooper’s Top Tips for Ascot Posted on April 15, 2016April 15, 2016 | Posted by Greg Hooper Greg Hooper’s Preview RACE 1 – REAL ICED TEA AND CO HANDICAP 1600m No. 8 UNIVERSAL LAW – I’m keen on the three-year-old UNIVERSAL LAW in this opening event. He was something beaten first-up when he missed the kick, settled a clear last, found trouble and motored late. The mile suits and Pike goes on. (6) SASSO’S CIRCUS has strung together a hat trick in midweek grade and can take the next step. (1) NORTH RIDGE was no hope last start when settling at the rear on a track favouring on pacers. (7) SHOWY CHLOE raced a little flat last week but down to 52kg she can improve sharply. Suggested Bet – Universal Law win RACE 2 – RED SHOE SOCIETY WA HANDICAP 1000m No. 3 RECOILED – Keen on RECOILED to get back into the winners’ circle in this 1000m sprint. He won his first two starts over this trip in a dominant fashion before giving a big sight and being run down over the concluding stages over 1200m. The drop in trip is ideal and he should lead and take a stack of beating. (9) CAPTIVATED POINT was well supported on debut and he put on a clinic winning by close to 6 lengths. He measures up in town. (1) BRISANTO is flying and got the measure of Recoiled over 1200m last start. (2) MYSTI MAID can run a race fresh. Suggested Bet – Recoiled win RACE 3 – RENTOKIL INITIAL HANDICAP 1000m No. 8 PROFIT STREET – This is a tricky little race. PROFIT STREET returned with a dominant win at Bunbury. He drops 2kg on that run and should appreciated an expected strong tempo. (1) MILITARY REIGN turned it on first-up where she blitzed two high quality mares. The drop back to 1000m and rise in 6kg is the query. (7) HOT GOODS raced below her best in two runs last preparation. (4) MARCHAND speeds along in front and gives them something to catch. Suggested Bet – Profit Street save Military Reign RACE 4 – WESTERN AUSTRALIA CUP 320m No. 1 TOWER OF LONHRO – The two miles gives the race some intrigue however other than TOWER OF LONHRO this race really does lack class. Happy to go his way. He’s a proven weight carrier and suspect he beats the majority of these on class alone. (9) SAXY GRACE ran very well in this race last year. Her effort at Pinjarra was good. The only query is the bar plate going on. (11) UNCLE GEORGE is tough and gets down in the weights. (2) DUBAI ESCAPADE has claims. Suggested Bet – Tower Of Lonhro save Saxy Grace RACE 5 – $100,000 SHEILA GWYNNE CLASSIC 1400m No. 1 MAGNIFISIO – There looks little between the top couple in this feature mares’ race. I’ve settled in MAGNIFISIO who should settle close to the speed and is the one to run down. (2) WINK AND A NOD is iron mare in terrific form. She goes very close. (3) CADENZA ran terrific against these mares last start and if repeats can win. (4) TARQUINN SHADOW can fill a hole fresh. Suggested Bet – Magnifisio win RACE 6 – $200,000 GROUP III AUTO CLASSIC BMW W.A. SIRES PRODUCE STAKES 1400m No. 1 SAUL’S SPECIAL – The step up to 1400m should be ideal for the smart coly SAUL’S SPECIAL. He got caught in traffic in the Karrakatta Plate and finished better than anything when clear. Pike goes on and expect him to stalking the leaders and ready to launch late. (8) WHISPERING BROOK is all class. She will lead, dictate and be very hard to run down again. (9) SPANGLED IMPACT will finish powerfully as she always does. (3) RISING SEA lacks the class but will run out the 1400m strongly. Suggested Bet – Saul’s Special win RACE 7 – $400,000 GROUP II SCHWEPPES W.A.T.C DERBY 2400m No. 11 FIRST IMPRESSIONS – Found this hard lining up the boys and girls. At the prices ended up going for Oaks winner FIRST IMPRESSIONS. She was completely dominant winning that race. She should get a soft run and has proven she can run the trip. (1) KIA ORA KOUTOU has been the favourite for this race since markets were put up and his effort in the Melvista was the perfect Derby trial. (2) WHO DAT SINGA blitzed them in the Melvista and can win again. (9) ARCADIA DREAM can win if she finds some cover and is saved up for one last burst. Suggested Bet – First Impressions and Kia Ora Koutou RACE 8 – KAI CONSTRUCTIONS HANDICAP 120m No. 8 COOL PASSION – Terrific race to finish the program. COOL PASSION looked like a very smart horse in her first campaign winning her last three starts in a dominant fashion. She should burn over from her wide draw and take plenty of running down. (11) CELEBRITY DREAM can win if he is within striking distance on straightening. (1) DENDEE is a class mare and if they over cook it up front she can get over the top of them. (4) KEY TO FAME can run a race fresh. Suggested Bet – Cool Passion win QUADDIE RACE 5 – 1, 2 RACE 6 – 1, 8 RACE 7 – 1, 2, 9, 11 RACE 8 – 1, 4, 5, 8, 11 Bet Now
