Trent Cooper’s Gloucester Park Preview Posted on January 18, 2024January 18, 2024 | Posted by Trent Cooper Race 1 SHOWPONY (2) has impressed with victories in good time at his last two starts and looks a great chance to bring up the hat-trick tonight. BEE JAYS BOY (1) led throughout from this draw two starts back and has options at the start and is the obvious danger. SUGAR APPLE (9) is the other class runner of the field but has a tough task from out here over the sprint trip. PER ARDUA AD ASTRA (10) finished just behind the placegetters at his last start and won’t be far away again from his nice trailing draw. Tips: 2 1 9 10 Suggested Bet: SHOWPONY (2) to win. Race 2 MR FANTASTIC (2) finished at the rear in a stronger field here last week but will be very hard to catch if he can cross in the early stages. ELDAYTONA (3) drops significantly in class on his last three starts and looks a major player tonight. WATCHING OUR COIN (7) looks more suited to staying events but he is undefeated in three starts over this trip and must be considered. THOMSON BAY (1) has been disappointing but he may improve he if he can hold up at the start. Tips: 2 3 7 1 Suggested Bet: MR FANTASTIC (2) to win. Race 3 RUMOUR HAS IT (2) led throughout to win three of her first four starts after a spell and lost no admirers when 2nd from the breeze in quick time here last week. She has very good gate speed and appeals as the one to beat. STAMFORD (1) ran a distant 3rd to Taking The Miki at his last start and holds the key to the race as he has the speed to lead if desired. ALCOPONY (8) ran on well to win the Christmas Gift and is the class runner of the field but has a tough draw to overcome. JAWS OF LINCOLN (7) crosses the Nullabor with very good SA form and sizzling gate speed and must be respected. Tips: 2 1 8 7 Suggested Bet: RUMOUR HAS IT (2) to win. Race 4 GOODFELLAZ (2) hasn’t had much luck but he has good gate speed and will give a great sight if he can find the front in the early stages. SOLESSO MATUCA (6) hasn’t been seen in trials but won four of his seven starts in Victoria before going for a spell and Gary Hall Jnr has chosen him over other fancied runners. CROWD CONTROL (3) has won four of his last five starts and looks capable of handling the rise in class. CHAL PATCH (7) disappointed first-up but he will strip fitter for that effort and is proven at this level. Tips: 2 6 3 7 Suggested Bet: GOODFELLAZ (2) to win. Race 5 PATCHED (1) is getting back to his best form and he should prove hard to catch over the sprint trip if he can hold up at the start. TRICKY RIC (12) is a very capable trotter who has trialled nicely for his return and will be charging home if there is a solid tempo. OUR MAESTOSO (4) is first-up without a trial but he has won ten of his 12 career starts so must be respected. EVAS IMAGE (6) has won three on end but is likely to find it harder drawn to the outside of her main rivals. Tips: 1 12 4 6 Suggested Bet: PATCHED (1) to win. Race 6 TALKS UP A STORM (1) led throughout to win three of his last four starts before going for a spell and is clearly the one to beat tonight despite being first-up without a trial. IDEAL AGENT (5) hasn’t raced for over a year but trialled nicely for his return and looks the main danger. JETT STAR (3) was unplaced in his four starts last time in but is capable of making his presence felt if he is forward in condition. JASPERVELLABEACH (2) was a good all-the-way here last week and should be in the firing line throughout again. Tips: 1 5 3 2 Suggested Bet: TALKS UP A STORM (1) to win. Race 7 ZEPHYRA (2) looked back to her best when a dominant 1.54.5 winner at her last start and can go on with it now she has found form. ROCKNROLL SASS (1) disappointed first-up but will strip fitter for that effort and holds the key to the race as she has the gate speed to hold up if desired. MIGHTHAVTIME (7) has been in the money in her past eight starts should be in the finish again. FLEUR DE MAQUIS (5) has been placed in four of her last five starts and her latest efforts prove that she is up to this class. Tips: 2 1 7 5 Suggested Bet: ZEPHYRA (2) to win. Race 8 POST GAME (1) hasn’t won for nine months but his Melton form before a spell was strong enough for a race of this nature and he looked good in winning a recent Pinjarra trial. MY ULTIMATE CHEVRON (2) has disappointed at his first two starts in the state but he has trialled nicely since those efforts and should be a big improver. CUT N RUN (10) is drawn to get a nice run behind the favourite and shouldn’t be far away. ROCKNROLL ELLIOT (11) has been racing in stronger fields and is capable of doing some work against this line-up. Tips: 1 2 10 11 Suggested Bet: POST GAME (1) to win. Race 9 NULLABOR NAVAJO (1) followed a first-up victory with an eye-catching 3rd to Rumour Has It and appeals as the one to beat here after coming up with the pole draw. IMA FIVESTAR GENERAL (7) couldn’t get into the race at his last start but he is the class runner of the field and should make his presence felt. MACHLANI (5) broke through for a well-deserved victory here last week and his times indicate that he can handle the rise in class. RUPERT OF LINCOLN (2) has been doing it tough lately and will appreciate the nice draw. Tips: 1 7 5 2 Suggested Bet: NULLABOR NAVAJO (1) to win. Race 10 MIDDLEPAGE (5) has only been placed in one of his nine starts this time in but he was a close-up 4th in a stronger field here last week and appeals as the one to beat. THE WATCH MAKER (3) resumed with a solid 3rd in good time and can make his presence felt tonight. AMERICAN BULLITT (2) is a consistent type who will appreciate this barrier and should be right in the finish. BALTIC ACE (9) was a strong winner from the breeze at his last start but he will find this harder. Tips: 5 3 2 9 Suggested Bet: MIDDLEPAGE (5) to win. Market Market
