Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on July 30, 2024July 30, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 GI GI POPS has Bradley Parnham riding 54kg on a Wednesday – that’s a clear push in itself. This filly won a trial back in March safely holding subsequent Saturday winner Rainline and then in her most recent trial was far too slick for them, eased down to win by 2.7L. 1200m on debut is less attractive than 1000m but Tim Crosby adds a set of shades (trialled in winkers) and she looks a ready made proposition. NORTH FACE has the race day experience and can wind up strongly late. EARL IT IS and ANOTHER LOVE both won 1000m trials same day at Belmont and were equally as impressive as each other. Numbers: 9 – 1 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet – GI GI POPS WIN RACE 2 CESSATION was three deep the trip first-up when battling on well into fifth and then finished second to the all conquering Joker’s Grin last start in a 3 year old 62+ on a Saturday. Drops back to midweek grade, has a senior on and is drawn to stalk the speed. Like the set up but wary that she does skyrocket in the weights. SALT LAKE SHAKE is quick and can lead this field. He was right there throughout against the older horses first-up. MADE IN MEXICO toyed with them down the 1000m straight at Pinjarra. This is tougher and he has never seen a rain affected track. DIABLO LAD trialled without blinkers and wasn’t asked for an effort at any stage. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – CESSATION WIN RACE 3 BELTA OF A SONG is a massive mare who clearly has ability but does have a bit of a habit of finding bad luck in her races. Brendon Fitz-Gerald brings her to the races first-up without a trial and while her best form is down the 1000m straight she looks to have found a race here where they’ll fly along and she’ll get her chance to burst through late. Shouldn’t be a maiden much longer. SAFEKEEPER was three deep the trip last Wednesday and went down fighting in the final stride. Backs up again and draws to get all the favours. ULTIMATE PARADISE has run two solid minors to start her prep. BRAVO CENTURION has had a big market following at both career runs. Numbers: 6 – 7 – 8 – 3 Suggested Bet – BELTA OF A SONG WIN RACE 4 EXTREME LOVE is looking to go three from three to start her campaign. She broke her maiden in style and then took a big step straight into a C3 when showing a bit of determination to ride a decent old hip and shoulder half way up the straight on her way to victory. No reason why she can’t win again. SCORPION RULER has shades on and bars off. Love both of those moves and the fresh run behind Joker’s Grin and Silver Eye holds up as a form reference. SEEYOUATTHESESSION tried hard behind Joker’s Grin fresh. LONSDALIEITE was very unlucky at his Pateman Racing debut. Numbers: 5 – 7 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – EXTREME LOVE WIN RACE 5 DARK LOOKS appears to be Shaun O’Donnell’s best chance yet to return to the winner’s circle after a frustrating run of injury and time on the sidelines. Second to Ton Of Grunt, second to Gratias Deo (in a C3) and fourth behind Sensessional in a 60+ Graduation looks excellent form for Dark Looks to finally break through. SHOULDER PATCH was ridden for speed at Bunbury last Thursday and it paid dividends. He travelled the winner from a long way out and put on a galloping exhibition. ROCK DEE JAY beat home Dark Looks comfortably in the Manzor Magic race two starts back. VERRY TIMELY raced flat last start. Numbers: 7 – 2 – 11 – 9 Suggested Bet – DARK LOOKS WIN RACE 6 SHOOTING SPIRIT ran a luckless fifth in the 3 year old Magic Millions at Pinjarra first-up last campaign and then things didn’t exactly go to plan for him at his next two outings before being tipped out. Recent trial win was solid, has versatility and finds what looks a winnable race at his return to racing. Good starting point for him. KINGS SICARIO only needs to reproduce his fresh effort behind My Hidden Universe to be a big danger. AROOCHACHA flashed ability in earlier campaigns and trialled super for his new stable recently. LOMBADINA is drawn poorly but has Pike and has the Dirty Chai/Kraken Time form. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – SHOOTING SPIRIT WIN RACE 7 MAKIN PROPHETS won a C3 1400 on a Soft7 five starts back and since then has dropped to a lower metro handicap rating then where he was when winning. His recent runs have been in higher grade and they haven’t been hopeless. Blinkers on, tongue tie on, lugging bit on. Keep in consideration at a big price. KING CARTEL is building towards another win. He was tough into third behind Sonoftheboss and Rissoles in a 3 year old Saturday most recently. KING’S ARTILLERY broke his maiden well. This is tougher though. GAGE ROADS is knocking on the door. Numbers: 10 – 1 – 6 – 3 Suggested Bet – MAKIN PROPHETS EACHWAY RACE 8 QUEEN OF JERUSALEM is a new horse since returning to Adam Durrant and she looks very hard to beat in the last. The majority of key rivals were in the same race as her last start and she was simply better than each and every one of them. Missed away after becoming momentarily cast as the gates opened, got held up on straightening (which is poison on the Scarpside track) and still charged to the line. Looks the one. NOD AND SMILE has shown glimpses of ability since the day he broke his maiden by the length of the straight. VANCOUVER STORM looks a stayer in the making. RED DWARF tries hard. Numbers: 2 – 8 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet – QUEEN OF JERUSALEM WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,2,7,8,9,11 1,2,5,6 1,3,6,10 2 Market Market
