Scott Embry’s Wednesday Ascot Preview Posted on December 31, 2024December 31, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SHMOOV MOOVA was sent out $1.50 first-up off the back of a quiet and impressive trial and didn’t let punters down, extending away powerfully to win by over 3L eased down. He returns to a Saturday grade race against his own age group and looks extremely progressive. Nice horse in the making. SUPERNATURAL couldn’t have been more impressive down the 1000m straight first-up and the form just keeps producing (Daytona Pete, De Grandhomme & Promising all subsequent winners). She’s another with a big future. PROMISING toyed with them last start. CLEANEMUP is the full sister to Oscar’s Fortune and has only been beaten once. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 6 – 3 Suggested Bet – SHMOOV MOOVA WIN RACE 2 MADAME MAGIC was held up the entire length of the home straight last start in a complete forgive. She’s going better than numerical form suggests, Papavero Princess and Our Rocky Bay were both plunge winners last Saturday at Pinjarra out of the same form reference race, she finds a very weak 60+ Graduation and Damian Lane jumps aboard this time around. There’s enough to suggest that she’s worth following up on. STARATING got a deserving, confidence boosting win on the board last start. MY JIMMY is through the Papavero Princess race = respect. ICEBERGS can still improve. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – MADAME MAGIC WIN RACE 3 KRAKEN TIME went into every single Blackbook in the State first-up behind in form speedster Norich. He drew barrier 14/16, he settled last, he found traffic and he still somehow managed to run all the fastest closing sections of the race. He’s a horse on the rise and there’s a nice genuine tempo for him to track up behind. TREASURED QUEEN hit the front before the corner before fading out late fresh. Improved fitness wise second-up, gains the services of Damian Lane and if she can cross Capricorn Man out of the barriers, she finds the fence. HOSTILE TALK was a great return to racing in the same event fresh. LONSDALEITE is electric on his day. Numbers: 5 – 9 – 7 – 3 Suggested Bet – KRAKEN TIME WIN RACE 4 BOPPING BLUE will need to hold out the early challenge of Norich, Oxbridge and Sunlit Fresco, but if he does then he looks hard to beat in a weak edition of the Summer Scorcher. He (like a few others in this race) has been an all or nothing proposition throughout his career so expect they’ll be desperate to hold the top and that he’s the one the market will want. BITOFMERIT has the versatility that many of these don’t. He can sit off the speed, wait for the race to unfold and then pounce late. NORICH has been a revelation over the last month. He’s quick, but is he 1000m quick? GHOST WHO WALKS the blow out. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet – BOPPING BLUE WIN RACE 5 SENTIMENTAL HERO has gone to a whole new level under the tutelage of master trainer Peter Fernie. He led and won the AJ Scahill Cup stopping the clock over 7L faster than average and then with even luck he would have beaten Diamond Scene last start in the ATA Stakes off a 25 day freshen. He’s got tactical speed, he’s got change up speed and he’s drawn inside of both Serpentine and Iowa which makes him a genuine chance of lobbing 1×1. YOUNG WERTHER is 5x Group One Placed and is a massive danger to the locals. IN GOOD ORDER is dropping 5kg from a WFA win. There will be plenty of ratings punters on his bandwagon. DIAMOND SCENE has looked a big Perth Cup player for months now. Numbers: 15 – 12 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet – SENTIMENTAL HERO EACHWAY RACE 6 BONJOY was able to out gun OWN THE QUEEN last start in a brilliant racing spectacle. Credit where it’s due, the ride from Troy Turner was top shelf – first 1000m run 29L slower than average (1:05:94) and last 600m run 14L faster than average, he tried to pinch it and gave his mare a 12/10, yet BONJOY was still able to get the job done. Extra 200m, 1.5kg in favour of Own The Queen…is that enough to turn the tables? Fascinating tactical clash upcoming (again). MISS SKYHIGH was brilliant late. ANTIQUE MISS was completely unsuited back and wide. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – OWN THE QUEEN WIN RACE 7 CELESTIAL STORM was all the rage at her WA debut off a trial that was visually more impressive than star stablemate Bravo Centurion. She was backed from $7 into $3.50 but in the end Devine Belief was simply a sharper, more seasoned 1000m Ascot horse. Second-up she drops in grade, draws even better and looks the one to beat. ALL PLAY is all motor, no steering. He’s a wayward talent. FINAL SIREN has a tongue tie added here, get a mulligan. ROCK THIS TOWN is high speed and will come out running. Numbers: 9 – 7 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – CELESTIAL STORM WIN Market Market
