Scott Embry’s Thursday Geraldton Preview Posted on February 19, 2025February 19, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 GLOBAL TRIP finished 5.5L off Nicely Played at Bunbury first-up and this is a conservatively 5.5L easier race for him second-up and after the ZJP claim drops half a kilo. DIXIE PRINCESS continues to run good races without being able to break through. GAV HAS SPOKEN makes her debut for a travelling Robert Matthews and Troy Turner sticks with her after riding her in her most recent 1000m trial at Belmont. Not convinced on the time or the opposition from the trial. SUMMER MOOD can bounce back freshened. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 10 – 5 Suggested Bet – GLOBAL TRIP WIN RACE 2 TARENTELIA went around a $15 chance last start but pushed Nobildonna right to the line. Troy Turner sticks – big tick, drawn to get a great run over the speed and strikes another typically thin Geraldton 1400m maiden. TOSCANO is double accepted for Wednesday at Ascot and Thursday at Gero. If they scratch to come to the Mid-West it may pay to follow. NEW ATTRACTION is better than what she produced 75 days ago. BLACK SANDS has been a Geraldton maiden for a long while now and is yet to break through. Numbers: 8 – 4 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet – TARENTELIA WIN RACE 3 SAUVEGARDE is from the powerful strike rate yard of Albert Bowtell and looks hard to beat. Loomed the winner on straightening last time out but couldn’t quite get past a very gritty and determined Queen Tiffany. Up in grade but a senior rider back on. BONNIE LAD beat her home the last time they met and from barrier 1 he’ll land three back the fence and be ridden for luck. TOP OF THE POPS is out of form but this is a huge drop in grade for him. BOMBAY STYLE can rebound. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – SAUVEGARDE WIN RACE 4 TRADED CROWN won by nearly 6L two starts back and then was all the rage in betting last time out but just never got the right run in transit and was eventual beaten 2L by Butterflyrock. With a 1kg weight swing and Troy Turner jumping on happy to suggest he can turn the tables. BUTTERFLYROCK won that race and made it two of her last three as she continues to prove herself a tough mare. BAYHARA was too good for MIFF MUFFERED MOOF last time out and they meet again here, this time over 1900. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet – TRADED CROWN WIN RACE 5 I’M ON has been a regular in this preview this preparation and hasn’t exactly been living up to expectation and yet again has drawn a horrible alley, but this is again weaker than anything she has seen being a C1 and she’s racing like the mile is what she needs. One last time. A LOT OF CLASS hasn’t raced for 75 days and resumes over 1600m. Definitely an ask but trusting the judgement of Graeme Hammarquist. WHAITIRI is a new mare under the care of Glen Tores. MAXIMUM IMPACT rolls along out in front with no weight. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – I’M ON WIN RACE 6 SOUTHLAND won like a nice country horse on debut. This will be a big test for him, going from a maiden into a C2, rising 1kg in weight and jumping from barrier 14/14. Will be very price dependent because this does look a tricky/risky set up for him. THE SLAP is 6 weeks between runs but his last effort in a 58+ is good enough to win this. BOLTA was a much improved run last time out behind Queen Tiffany who has franked the form. GOLD KEEPER an improver. Numbers: 7 – 4 – 5 – 11 Suggested Bet – SOUTHLAND WIN RACE 7 ON THE MARK is a Perth horse. Plain and simple. No doubt trainer Barry Newnham, owner Bonnie Stokes and rider Peta Edwards are keeping him in Geraldton so that they can race some maturity and experience into him before they (surely) head back to Ascot/Belmont. He’s wildly talented, but still can be wayward. COLLECTIVE is more than ready to win. She just needs to find the right back to follow into the race. THE RUSH has been a model of consistency since arriving with Malcolm Mackenzie and gets a gun run. CLEVER COMBAT deserved that last start. Numbers: 2 – 10 – 3 – 12 Suggested Bet – ON THE MARK WIN Market Market
