Scott Embry’s Sunday Kalgoorlie Preview Posted on August 8, 2025August 8, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 I’M GENEVIEVE gets 53.5kg as a 3 year old filly against the older horses, and with the suspension of Tash Faithfull it’s probably only Holly Nottle who is riding that weight at the meeting and because she’s a 3kg claimer she’ll ride her at 50.5kg. She’s on debut in a weak race and she’s shown more than enough jump and run ability to suggest she’ll be hard to run down. CALL NICK returned to racing in a 2 year old Saturday and was only 4L off Paint It Red. This is a huge class drop and he’s the clear danger. NEW HYMN SHEET went around $2.40 on debut and $3.70 at her second start – hasn’t shown anything yet. BARBIELAND may be better suited on the grass. Numbers: 9 – 8 – 7 – 3 Suggested Bet – I’M GENEVIEVE WIN RACE 2 KING OF FRANCE has now led and run second at his last two. It’s very hard to tip (and bet) into a 30 start maiden with any great deal of confidence but these are a very even (and limited) bunch and you’d rather be out in front and out of trouble than back in the field. COUSIN MORTIMER has been making grinding ground late on heavily rain affected tracks down in Perth. PERFECT RULER comes back in distance, races on speed and is rock hard fit. LUMINOUS LADY is a well bred mare who should appreciate a bit of ground. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 10 Suggested Bet – KING OF FRANCE WIN RACE 3 SLUICE BOX is now a 10 year old but he’s worked his way back into a bit of form recently and liked the way he sustained a run from the back of the field on the Fibre Sand last time out and this is one of the weaker races he has seen over the last 12 – 18 months. Would be great for the old boy to win another. HAND ME DOWN attacked the line well over a mile in a much tougher race behind Decoration last time out. SANTA BRAE is one of the best suited at the distance but still query whether he’s an apprentice’s horse. SUNNY TIMES was only fair last start considering how well he went on the Fibre Sand first-up in WA. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 1 – 8 Suggested Bet – SLUICE BOX WIN RACE 4 GONDRINKIN was in a 64+ last start when drawn wide, doing work and being one of the few horses to make a late impression behind dominant winner Decoration (goes to a 72+ 1600 at Belmont Saturday). Back in grade, proven at the distance and drawn to get a more economical run – looks the one to beat. ELSUENO is knocking on the door and getting close. Straight to the top. STYLE DIVA was actually a much better run than it looks on paper last start. She did somewhat attack the line once clear. SABINO hasn’t won a race in a long time but recent efforts are all sound. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 7 – 8 Suggested Bet – GONDRINKIN WIN RACE 5 ON JUST TERMS is a different mare when she can lead and control. That was the case last start and that looks the case again here on paper. Straight to the front with no weight after the Jefferson Tsang claim and while this is a much deeper race she should be in front for a long way again. SECRET ATTIRE never got a crack at them last start. Her prior run at Pinjarra in a 60+ Graduation had merit and three back she was a brilliant winner bursting through traffic. Big danger. DON’T WAIT FOR LUCK went around odds on last Sunday but could only manage a moderate third placing to Abbou. TOP FUN is flying. Numbers: 7 – 3 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet – ON JUST TERMS WIN RACE 6 CLOSE AT HAND suffered his first KBRC defeat a fortnight ago at the hands of Laquetta’s Gift but prior to that had been toying with 70+ opposition. Happy to give him one forgive and suggest that he can bounce back and take out of the first feature of the season. PLATINUM SHOT has been a ripper for the Pearce Brothers from Day 1. Stakes Placed 2 year old filly and now a lovely bread and butter 5 year old mare. Huge effort last start. HIGH PRESSURE is his own worst enemy. SCOTTISH LAIRD has come of age this prep and with 51kg is dangerous. Numbers: 6 – 7 – 8 – 12 Suggested Bet – CLOSE AT HAND WIN RACE 7 PENNED was excellent two back behind Stryker’s Gal and then never got a passage through last start behind Twist Of Gold in a complete forgive. Troy Turner jumps on, winkers come off and this is very winnable. DIEGO DYNAMITE trialled well leading into his return and got the better of Fuzzybox late in the race first-up over 1100m from the breeze. Likely leads and that gives him the chance to go back to back. DATE WITHTHE DEVIL does himself no favours early and from the outside gate in a capacity line up he’s going to end up a mile off them in the run. Big ask to win from there. HEAVY METAL broke her maiden at $1.28 but was hardly convincing. Numbers: 6 – 3 – 5 – 9 Suggested Bet – PENNED WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 2,5 3,7 6,7,8,12 3,5,6,9,12 Market Market
