Scott Embry’s Sunday Toodyay Preview Posted on September 20, 2024September 20, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 LE GRAND JEU has been about the place all his career and hopefully for trainer/owner Steele Casey Toodyay is just what the doctor ordered. He finished third behind Ocean Ranger four back, finished third behind Bold Hero two back, ran into Antique Star (since won a C1) two back and last start finished behind Couldhavebeen who has run well in C1 company. Gear changes, senior rider, maiden handicap. Should go well. DENTED ROMANCE trialled super over 950 for a staying type. DEMETRIOUS showed something on debut on the Goldfields. WINEACLOCKSUMWHERE is accepted for Kal and Toodyay. A chance wherever he starts. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 4 – 7 Suggested Bet – LE GRAND JEU WIN RACE 2 FIRE THE GUARD ran third behind Ellicazam first-up and then was never in the contest second-up in a race where they ran along out in front and it was dominated close handy to the speed. This is easier, he draws better and after the ZJP claim he carries 1kg less. Think this is the right set up for him to break through. OCEAN OUTLAW is only having his third start for Dylan Bairstow and has had two trials to prep him up for Toodyay Cup Day. HOTLIPS LILL can show speed on occasion and heads into this without a trial. YALDA NIGHT didn’t trial too badly behind Spirit Guide recently and Matt Scott targets these meetings with great success. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 9 – 6 Suggested Bet – FIRE THE GUARD WIN RACE 3 APACHE BLUE deserves to break through and win one this preparation and Mollie Clark has taken it upon herself to ride her own horse and lift him over the line. Beaten a nose three back by Fameux and then was solid into third behind Cocktail Party and subsequent winner Sinful Living two back. Last start not disgraced behind a good one in Kraken Time. CHER has blinkers on, has barrier 1 and has a racebook full of punters who are likely headed on a road trip. Massive day ahead if she salutes, long drive home if she gets rolled. 3 votes B.Loveridge. MAGNIFICENT CARAT gets a soft run. PROTECTED ACTION goes quick. Numbers: 6 – 8 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – APACHE BLUE WIN RACE 4 LOT HO won a C1 1000 at Bunbury four starts ago and then wasn’t too bad down the 1000m straight in the Fameux/Apache Blue race which could look like better form after Race 3. Nice placement this. CRYSTALIST has his first start for husband-wife duo Aaron & Kate Pateman and the fact they’re racing him here rather than at Mt Magnet Saturday is worth taking note of. Shades on and has only seen rain affected tracks so far this campaign and has hated them. MRS KANGAROO thumped them last start at Junction and had handy grass form for previous trainers. SCHUHBECK next best. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – LOT HO WIN RACE 5 ENSIGN PULVER will find his a lot easier than his recent outings in C5 company. He has blinkers going on, he drops back sharply in grade and is he drawn to get a gun run for Pat Carbery. There’s a few here who might be a bit suspect late and thinking that he might sneak under the guard a bit. CLEVER COMBAT has been going better than numerical form suggests. Hasn’t had much luck on occasion. AIYZA can put in a cheeky run from time to time and like many at these meetings has shades on. HIGHBOY nearly pinched a 1500 first-up last campaign at York. Similar race this. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 7 – 6 Suggested Bet – ENSIGN PULVER EACHWAY RACE 6 JACK IN THE BLACK was only 3.2L off Uncompromised last start in the Tatts Cup at Kalgoorlie and the second horse Red Cadillac has since come out and run third behind Admiration Express and Starry Heights in a Coolgardie Cup. Going to speculate on the old boy putting in a run here at odds. LORD RANDOLPH is looking really one paced at the minute. Hopefully a trip to Toodyay can sharpen him up because he won’t find a race much more suitable than this within 200km of Perth. ZENIQUE trialled like he was in for a good preparation but hasn’t fired a shot first-up or second-up. MONG KHON has travelled really keenly in his recent runs and hasn’t suited the apprentice riders. Numbers: 5 – 6 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet – JACK IN THE BLACK EACHWAY RACE 7 ZAZA ROCK put in a massive run at her first outing for Grant & Alana Williams when sitting three deep. Off the back of that effort went around odds on last start at Belmont but was unable to run down in form front runner Chantel. This looks a nice race for her. QUEEN NARDI got chopped out first-up and was just starting to wind up. Racing like 1850 will suit. HAFEY heads back to grass racing after going around at Carnarvon and Roebourne over the winter. Trial was solid alongside Holy Enchantment. DAD’S BIGHEADED can stride forward and be put into the race and can sustain a run. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – ZAZA ROCK WIN RACE 8 PRETTY DEVINE stepped out over 1600m last Sunday at Northam and simply didn’t run out the trip. She’s on the quick back-up, she’s back in distance to a far more suitable 1350m, she has a talented front running rider aboard and she’s right back in grade into a 52+. This looks a good race for her. CANGGU is a real trier and the recent trial behind Dreamtime Jean suggests that he’ll be hard to beat. That pair can both roll forward into prominent positions. ABBOU was charging through late last week and ran straight past the stablemate. CIAO BLOOMY is better than what she’s been showing recently. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 4 – 10 Suggested Bet – PRETTY DEVINE WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 2,3,5,6,7 2,5,6,7 1,2,3,6 3,4,5 Market Market
