Scott Embry’s Sunday Port Hedland Preview Posted on August 4, 2023August 4, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 COMMANDS RESPECT was huge last start. Got caught out three deep over 1400m and was simply too strong for the two underneath of her, including talented types Sea Waif and Amber Highway. Comes back in grade, comes back in trip and see no reason why she won’t go close again. SALCHINO lost the services of Austin Galati last start at Roebourne and wasn’t the same mare. He returns to the saddle here which his big for her. OUR KIWI PRINCESS is racing consistently well. OFF THIS PLANET next best. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – COMMANDS RESPECT WIN RACE 2 CHAVORIO won a 56+ 1400 at Roebourne and broke her maiden beating Mystery Man. There’s a 1kg weight swing in favour of CHAVORIO for winning by almost a length so it’s hard not to follow up with her. Improving with every start. MYSTERY MAN has turned a corner. All of Glen Cortes’ horses have been flying over the last month and he looks a big danger. AMBER HIGHWAY has seemingly trained off? His last two runs are disappointing by his standards. CAPE PRIDE is whacking away. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – CHAVORIO WIN RACE 3 FEMME PUISSANTE was another last start winner for Rosie Mahony who enjoyed a career best day in the saddle at the last Port Hedland meeting. She was a dominant all the way winner over 1200m beating What A Prince and King Hallowell. Stays at the exact same weight over the same distance in the same grade. Plenty to like. AMELIA’S BELIEF is a different horse when he jumps. If he can lead he’s really hard to get past. SHY BOY beat both Amelia’s Belief and Femme Puissante when winning at Marble Bar two starts back. PLAYING ZEUS has been freshened. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – FEMME PUISSANTE WIN RACE 4 COMPAK broke his maiden beating Jake The Peg and Ginger Charm. Last start went to a 56+ and finished third behind Time Of Our Lives and Grated Coconut. Drops back into a C1, drawn to kick through and hold a spot and should be there abouts. GINGER CHARM was far too quick for them last start in a maiden where she ran them along 5L quicker than average. Beat Chavorio who came out and won next start to frank the form. Up 6kg the only minor query. WHOS YOUR MAMA has been a model of consistency all preparation. JAKE THE PEG next best. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – COMPAK WIN RACE 5 LAND OF VALENS won a 68+ 1200 at Port Hedland at his first start on the dirt and then 35 days later stepped out to 1300m, couldn’t find the top and couldn’t reel in War Warrior. He rises half a kilo here but importantly comes back to 1200 and he’s drawn inside of War Warrior. If he can kick through and hold him out that’s the first step to winning. WAR WARRIOR has really come of age this preparation. Won three of his last four and runs for Rosie Mahony. WHAT A PRINCE only improves for his first dirt experience. WELD is hard to catch but he’s racing well. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet – LAND OF VALENS WIN RACE 6 HEZAZEB won the Roebourne Cup last Saturday, BONNEVILLE BLACK won the Derby Cup the Saturday prior and OMBUDSMAN won the 2022 Broome Cup. Going to side up with the Broome form of OMBUDSMAN who will have to lump 61kg to victory but looks like he’s building and building. Loved his run behind Rogue’s Point two starts back and wasn’t suited in a muddlingly run Cable Beach Caravan Park Cup. BONNEVILLE BLACK had shades go on in the Derby Cup. He’s going great. HEZAZEB ran them into the ground in Roebourne in slick time. ELAFELLA another last start winner with ability. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – OMBUDSMAN WIN RACE 7 KELLYS LASSIE is flying. Never thought I would see the day where she won over 1813m but under the vigour of Emma Salmeri’s cheers at Belmont Park (the ‘Go Lassie’ started at the 600 and you would have heard them on course in Roebourne) she was able to fight them all off for an all the way win. Comes back to a mile, bounces out of the gates and puts herself into a winning position. Just needs to hold form. MAGIC OF ZEUS has blinkers re-attached. He’s chasing but he’s not really savaging the line. MIETTE STAR showed something last start. AUGUSTA RED is loving dirt life. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – KELLYS LASSIE WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,2,6 1,3 1,2,3,4,9 1,2,5,6 Market Market
