Scott Embry’s Sunday Northam Preview Posted on September 30, 2023September 30, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 WHY ME is accepted on Saturday for a 3 year old Plate and Sunday in an all-age maiden. If they scratch for the weaker race then he looks really hard to beat. Love the way he found the line last start behind undefeated filly Twain’s Angel and subsequent winner Royal Toronado. LINDEN’S GOLD was massive last star. Hard to ignore just how tough he was after tramping deep throughout. Gets a far more economical passage here and beat home Why Me behind Lord Lala. WAYNE THE PAIN comes through the same race as Why Me and finished 3L behind him. STYLISH LORD is the full to Swear To God and the most recent trial was clearly his best. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet – WHY ME WIN RACE 2 PERCUSSION PRINCE wasn’t afforded much luck on debut. He was almost 4 deep the entirety and kept coming when finishing fifth behind All Play. That form could well hold up in a Saturday race at Belmont and he drops into a maiden. Worth following up. DECORATION was well found in betting on debut at odds and ran a really good second to Smokey Mountain. Wanted to lay inwards noticeably in the home straight even with CJP wielding the whip in the left. Still got to the line as well as anything and now has the fence to follow, Pike on and an extra 300m. VITILLA has shown ability and versatility at trials. MISS ROCKJOY trialled super. Numbers: 10 – 9 – 6 – 11 Suggested Bet – PERCUSSION PRINCE WIN RACE 3 SHOULDER PATCH was forced to cover plenty of ground last start in a race where Schnoots rolled along throughout. Considering the way the race was run thought he did a great job to battle on into fourth and now that he’s drawn barrier 2 he can enjoy a much softer run. Malkar Pindari came out and won a C3 on Wednesday to more than frank the form. IMPOSSIBLE DREAM comes through the same race and was just as good late and through the line. INTERVENTION trialled nicely and then was put into the race first-up before peaking on the run. STRIKING FELLA was just getting warm over the shorter course. Numbers: 8 – 9 – 5 – 10 Suggested Bet – SHOULDER PATCH WIN RACE 4 ROYAL SPLENDOUR was a good run last start behind Bucket’s Ridge and God’s Garden. Was held tight at the 600 when looking to build momentum and then was dictated inwards into restricted room for much of the home straight. Run was far better than it reads on paper. SCENIC STRIKE has put in two nice L600s since returning. All of Bruce Watkin’s horses are running well – they’re just finding one or two better on the day. Won’t be long. NOBLE SCOT hasn’t raced since June 2022 but this is weak and his trial was excellent. ROCK THIS COUNTRY seems to go lengths better at Northam. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet – ROYAL SPLENDOUR WIN RACE 5 TYCOON HARRY has been character building for punters in two runs to date. Beaten 1L from the breeze first-up behind Gold Citation and subsequent winner Blue Lagoon before being gunned down in the shadows by Insyde Success at his second start when really flying along in the middle stages. Shades come off but there’s also plenty of other speed in this. STOLEN VALOUR had two runs as a 2 year old and wasn’t disgraced in either. Loved his trial when beating impressive first-up Saturday winner Zipaway. CHAMPAGNE STREET wasn’t at the same level earlier this campaign as compared to what she produced as a 2 year old. GOKANA fought on well last start. Numbers: 6 – 9 – 13 – 14 Suggested Bet – TYCOON HARRY WIN RACE 6 CATCH THE RED EYE was drawn barrier 12 of 14 last start and looked destined on paper to endure a tough passage, however, there were plenty of punters who were still extremely keen to back him into favouritism. Rises in weight here but is drawn to get a lovely run and the Deamber/Malkar Pindari win first-up looks good on form. Maps perfectly. RUSSIAN SNIPER was a ‘they knew’ last start. $4.40 to $8.50 and never looked likely at any stage. Different horse to the one who rattled home into fifth behind Little Strawberry and subsequent winners Cut The Talk and Valency fresh. SMOKEY MOUNTAIN was too quick for them fresh. ENFANT ROUGE trialled well for her WA debut. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet – CATCH THE RED EYE WIN RACE 7 RIDING HOOD FAME is 2 from 78 – that’s an indication of the strength of this race, however, both of her wins are at Northam and she seems to go particularly well at the track compared to other locations. She’s been beaten a half head by Red Dwarf and a half head by Miss Intention within the last 2 months and is going desperately close to winning another. Prayers for the little grey battler. ETOMORP has a gear change and a rider change in an attempt to lift him home. QUEEN OF JERUSALEM didn’t turn up last start. She’s better than that. TELL NOTHIN’ worked hard early before putting up the white flag. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet – RIDING HOOD FAME EACHWAY RACE 8 GUARD THE SAFE was only fair first-up behind Patron of Kings and Ruler Rocket but this looks an ideal opportunity for Paul Harvey to bully his way to the front or breeze outside of Sabino and control the race. Sneaks back into a C3 for the first time in a while and the Pontiff going to Northam on a Sunday could be a lead in itself. BELGRANO BELLE went to another level when joining Ike Racing last preparation. With Pike aboard and a barrier she’s a big danger. JEDI MIND seems to run well for Lucy Fiore. REACTION was a great return at York. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 7 – 8 Suggested Bet – GUARD THE SAFE EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 4 – 8) 6,9,13 1,2,3 1,2,6 1,2,7,8 Market Market
