Scott Embry’s Sunday Kalgoorlie Preview Posted on May 28, 2022May 28, 2022 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SAINTLY CITY looked like he would lead and win last Sunday when the race was over 1100m. Still in his corner at 1200m but he might just be vulnerable late. First-up second over 1000m (beat main rival Better In Kit by 5L), second-up second over 1000m behind Madam Kisses (subsequent C1 winner and 60+ placed to Nowhiteflag), third-up finished fourth behind Zephyra (since won a 3yo 62+) and then last start pulled up with genuine excuses when finishing a long way off Hammarmill and Honey Dew. Form stand outs, leads and looks to have a bit on these. BETTER IN KIT will likely attempt to stalk his every move. If she can’t finish top three here it might be Better In Leonora for her. VERNATIOUS has shades on and comes back in trip to suit. READ THE ROOM wasn’t horrible at trials. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – SAINTLY CITY WIN RACE 2 BEAUCOUNT looks the one to beat here. He has slowly but surely been working his way into form and thought his last start effort with 58kg on a Heavy8 at Albany was excellent. He really rolled them along (shock) throughout, clocking an overall time 4.5L faster than 58+ average. 1940 back to 1760 and now that Kristy Bennett knows what she’s dealing with it looks his race to lead and win. TRILLIONIARE looks the danger. Trillionaire, Bentley’s Brother and Dalgaranga met two starts ago behind Sassational and he was the run of the race. BENTLEY’S BROTHER is honest and will keep grinding. DALGARANGA a query at the trip. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – BEAUCOUNT WIN RACE 3 HERO IN THE WIND flashed home behind Silver Bugg two starts ago when the blinkers went on and then finished only 4L off Ciscojoe, What A Prince and Fruit Loops in a genuinely run race. That maiden was 2L faster than provincial average, a great indicator that he’ll take real beating in Kalgoorlie. The fact that Ciscojoe went straight to a C1 and won again on Thursday only enhances the form reference. LEOCARDO is knocking on the door and ready to win one. FAT ROY SLIM makes his debut and there was a mountain of early money for him 7 days ago in a very similar line-up. FIRE AT WILL got going late in his trial and caught the eye. Numbers: 9 – 8 – 10 – 11 Suggested Bet – HERO IN THE WIND WIN RACE 4 ALTANI ran really well at her first start for Brian Curtis when third behind Little Ses and Whim Creek. Last start had a fair few excuses at various stages in the race and with the blinkers going on (for the first time) and a clear passage from barrier 1 she looms as a big hope in this. Think back to 1100m is her go and she can track the hot speed behind Jackpot Legend, Violation and Hilton. WHIM CREEK finished second in the same race Altani finished third and there was nothing between them. Does have to concede Altani 3.5kg here. SWEET STRAWBERRY goes well on the back-up and comes out of stronger races in the metro area. SHADOW BOOM is going super for Gary Bowen and can’t be discounted after an impressive last start win. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – ALTANI WIN RACE 5 LINCOLNS LAW looks like he can roll straight to the front for 4kg claimer Luke Campbell in a race devoid of speed. Great use of the claim and the last start effort behind One Point Lady in a 54+ was strong, especially when you consider he’s dropping back into a 50+ here. Can test Tahitian Red. They met behind Spring To Life and Lincoln’s Law meets the filly 3.5kg better. TAHITIAN RED has come back bigger and better this preparation for the all-conquering Gary Bowen yard. So far this season Gary has had 15 runners for 7 winners, 46.7% strike rate and 204% POT. Big danger. IT’S A LANCE ran well second-up. Forget last start. ABBOU wasn’t a bad run first start for Boy Hill. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – LINCOLN’S LAW WIN RACE 6 KALLAROO was a tough watch last start. He ended up in a horrible position in running and by the time he got out and into the clear the race was all over in front of him. He still got to the line well and stepping out to a mile and dropping from a 70+ back into a 64+ he looks really hard to beat. Winner with 62kg in Esperance so no issue with the weight and putting confidence in Brad Rawiller to make amends. MEET JOE BLACK was going super before the saddle slipped last start. Forget he even went to the races. Can lead or breeze outside Gluten Free. SASSATIONAL is in blistering form. Her last 600m of her last two have been off the charts. GLUTEN FREE gets weight off Roseicapilla. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – KALLAROO WIN RACE 7 LITTLE SES burst back onto the scene this preparation with a first-up win in a 58+ 1100 and then a second-up win (with 59kg) in a 58+ 1200. She then had an apprentice on and nothing at all went right for her. Lisa Staples returns to the saddle, she drops to 56kg and gets out to 1400m. Ticks plenty of boxes and can bounce back to the winner’s circle. KAKADU is flying. He is a last start winner and the form should hold up through Solarize later in the day. Was beaten by Little Ses the start prior and meets her 1kg worse at the weights. CUBAN TWIST is always hard to run down in Kal. STAR PRESENT is going super and will sit back and have last crack at them. 2 from 2 at the KBRC. Numbers: 6 – 4 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – LITTLE SES WIN RACE 8 MY SQUEEZE LOUISE jumps off the page here. She resumed first-up in an unsuitable 1200m where she was outsprinted late in the race. Never gave it away and is now effectively a C5 back to a C2 and up a furlong in distance to suit. If this was a mile she’d nearly be a good thing but at 1400m and with a 4kg claimer you can’t get that carried away. She’ll roll forward and take real running down. DIVULGE was a super trial for his KBRC debut. 15 owners turned up to watch him trial. You’d think 150 turn up for race day. Big watch. SOUSANA has run two good races for Jayden Lyall. Don’t discount. KEEP YOUR FEET finds a new home and is drawn a perfect alley. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet – MY SQUEEZE LOUISE WIN RACE 9 TAJMALI is a nice mare for these 70+ country ratings races. Last preparation she won a 70+ 1200m at Kal under William Pike and then at the end of the preparation found herself in a 60+ 1000 in town at Ascot when winning by over a length. Races well enough fresh and should get across from the stick draw into a prominent position over the speed. With Brandon Louis entering H&S Protocols for 7 days it’s a nice pick-up ride for someone. OUR DANNI has lacked a killer blow so far this campaign but she maps to get a world perfect run one out and one back. YOYOS won the Westspeed Platinum Final two starts back at Ascot and gets right down in the weights here. SWEET SNITTY ridden positive with a senior improves sharply. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 8 – 1 Suggested Bet – TAJMALI WIN RACE 10 SOLARIZE is perfectly placed by Brett Drury to break through. The last time he was in a 58+ 1200 at Kalgoorlie was 17 October 2021 when he let rip and beat Protected Action by 2.5L. So far this campaign he has contested three 70+ races and has improved at each of them. 70+ back to a 58+, senior rider on, perfect gate and has tactical speed. Keen. EMERALD ROSE has turned a corner in the last 6 months. Might just need 1400. LOVE DRUNK BABY won’t know himself with only 53kg. HERRON SAND ran well fresh but she can train off quickly. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 8 – 5 Suggested Bet – SOLARIZE WIN RACE 11 JOYRIZE might sneak under the radar here first-up for Esperance trainer Joshua Francis Brown-Forder. Some of her efforts in the C2 races in West Adelaide were against better types than she meets here: Fair Justice, Royal Soldier, Warzachantz, Lucy Da Grey, Watto’s Reward, Emerald Rose, Balderdash etc. Just needs luck from a tricky draw. TOTAL LOCKDOWN finds a new home with Dave Smith. Dave is a genius at improving these tried types (think Little Ses, think Meet Joe Black, think Excaro). IMPERIALISM hasn’t been seen since 20 May 2020. Be a massive job to get him up first-up off 757 days. PETITE LA FEMME is hard to catch but maps well. Numbers: 6 – 3 – 1 – 9 Suggested Bet – JOYRIZE WIN Quaddie (Race 8 – 11) 1,4 1,2,3,4,8 1 1,3,6,8,9 Market Market
