Scott Embry’s Saturday Esperance Preview Posted on December 14, 2023December 14, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 PERT REMARKS was $51 into $10 at his first run for the region’s leading trainer *not fact checked just what he repeatedly texts me* Josh Brown and ran a really cheeky race out in front to go down by 1L behind Sister Kate and Paradise Star. 8 days later he’s 1200 back to 1100 and can lead again. LET IT GO RUPERT was scratched last week and now is drawn barrier 1 which is certainly not a kind gate in recent seasons at Esperance with most winners coming well off the fence. Nice return and sure to be winning races. PARADISE STAR beat home Pert Remarks last week. Not much between them. DARE ME has run two solid races since joining Col Haddon and won’t be a maiden long. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 8 – 10 Suggested Bet – PERT REMARKS WIN RACE 2 AL QUEPONE filled the pockets of punters last Friday and looks really hard to beat again. He beat home everything in this field apart from Apple Schnapps last week and while he concedes them weight he was running away from them in the concluding stages and looks arguably even better suited over 1300m. See no reason why he won’t be winning again. HILTON was the one that punters backed to topple him last week and he ran a solid third. Gets 1.5kg to try and turn the tables. APPLE SCHNAPPS has a lot of weight to carry but he’s the class runner. NOBLE REFLECTION is still working up towards his best. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – AL QUEPONE WIN RACE 3 HOT PUDDIN has a senior rider going on and that’s enough to jump on the bandwagon. Was an interesting run last Friday when looking under pressure on straightening, laying inwards across heels and then finding a second wind in the last 50m. Think he’s looking for a mile and David Harrison opts to use a senior to try and straighten him up. Likely to be very short in betting. MR HOLLYWOOD was impressive for all the wrong reasons last week. Missed away, wouldn’t stretch out early but came with a big run late. RED WITH TED loomed into it powerfully but blew out late last Friday. NOBLE INFLUENCE has hit the line in both runs this campaign. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet – HOT PUDDIN WIN RACE 4 FEROCIOUS FROST ran right away from them in a maiden last start to score impressively. Rises 1kg from a maiden into a C2 but there’s a lot of horses here who have been caught in this grade for a long while and this 3 year old looks to have some upside. Extra distance looks in his favour and love the way he covered them last week. FAULT has returned in really good order. Last two runs have been good enough to win this. VEVINSKY comes back into a C2. Hasn’t produced his best for a while but this is also the weakest race he’s seen in ages. TALKABOUTYOU is honest and consistent and from the draw gets a soft run. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – FEROCIOUS FROST WIN RACE 5 WESTERNIZE could surprise a few in this. Last three wins have been in 58+ races and only two starts back he finished third behind Boozeroo and Al Quepone. He was beaten 1.25L by Boozeroo on that occasion but meets him 3.5kg better this time around. He’ll be a big price after a disappointing effort last Friday but could be worth a throw at the stumps. BOOZEROO has returned in excellent order winning first-up and second-up. He’ll again roll forward and make his own luck. Deserving favourite. HERE NO CASH and SIOUX CITY are harder to line-up with Broome form from over winter on the dirt. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet – WESTERNIZE EACHWAY RACE 6 BELLES FANTASY ran a solid third behind subsequent winner Talk Softly at her first run in Esperance and then went to a C5 when drawn inside and having to follow the fence (worst part of the track). Great effort to still run third behind an in form Boozeroo and now she’s back into a C2 and drawn a bit wider. Like this set up for her. DAWN AMNESTY tried really hard last week and is more than capable of sprinting over them. BONDI BUBBLES broke his maiden well. LOST SMILE has returned in excellent order, in fact all of Fiona Scott’s are going super. Numbers: 4 – 6 – 9 – 5 Suggested Bet – BELLES FANTASY WIN RACE 7 MY BOY CHRIS won a 58+ 1200 at Kalgoorlie back in October and then a C5 1200 at Esperance at the opening meeting. Went to 1400m at the most recent meeting and was only 1L off Lincolns Law, Brighid and Northern Ivy. Honest and consistent customer who is rarely far from the winner. NORTHERN IVY meets him 3kg better at the weights with Ava Catarino going on. His last two have been great. COUSIN NICCI was three back the fence in forgive territory last week. FLOPPY found form at the end of his last campaign. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet – MY BOY CHRIS WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,2,3,5,6,9 2,6 4,5,6,7,9,11 1,2,3,6 Market Market
