Scott Embry’s Saturday Carnarvon Preview Posted on May 20, 2022May 20, 2022 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 LOYAL ROMANCE was a stride slow away at the opening meeting and from there her winning chances were slim. Thought he travelled nicely into the race which is an important indicator that she handles the dirt. With a cleaner get away she can improve here and finish much closer to the winner. BONDONNA has the dreaded inside gate (prefer out than in at Carnarvon) but has sufficient gate speed to take up a prominent position. Always a bit of guess work at their first start on the dirt. SHAMARA went around a $4 chance on debut at York and ran second to Global Conflict (won again Thursday at York) and then was beaten out of sight at start two and moved on by Sue Olive. Shades on. Big Watch. MAHUTAS gets back but has run some nice races. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – LOYAL ROMANCE WIN RACE 2 MISS SILVERSPRINGS has her first start for Gypsy Racing and looks to have found a winnable maiden. Her first-up run down the 1000m straight behind Spicy Dancer was strong, her second-up run was only 3L off Rebelzone, Superiorize and Justamiddy and then she was luckless at York and run off her legs at Geraldton. Only 54kg and worth a throw at the stumps. SUPER BON has had plenty of starts on the dirt and promised to win one. He’ll likely kick through to lead. HEZAZEB has run two good enough races in WA to suggest he’s a legitimate winning chance in this. PRETTYADMIRABLE is going well for Malcolm Mackenzie. Numbers: 8 – 2 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – MISS SILVERSPRINGS WIN RACE 3 POCKET PISTOL won at his first start at Carnaron when sitting up outside the leader over 1000m in a 56+. He actually drops in grade here into a C3 (50+) and only rises 1.5kg in weight after the Galati claim. Thinking that he’ll get a near identical run having to park up outside of the speedy Prince Saiyan and provided he can stick out a strong 1200m he’ll be there in the finish. PRINCE SAIYAN found the front at Geraldton, ran them along throughout and never looked like being beaten. Worth noting that it was a heavily, heavily dominated leaders programme but still hard to ignore the way he won. No doubt he’ll look to adopt the same jump and run tactics here. NERO CHIN CHIN returned with a near career best performance. Finally starting to fulfil early expectations. FEMME PUISSANTE an improver after being unsuited to barrier 1 last start. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 6 – 9 Suggested Bet – POCKET PISTOL WIN RACE 4 MISS BRIGHTON was reported to not handle track conditions first-up but willing to take that as a ‘didn’t handle the inside and/or being cluttered away in traffic’ so putting her on top here in a very wide open and evenly graded C1 1400. Is a Carnarvon winner previously and did place at 1300m to Galiba in Port Hedland last season (who was flying at the time). Can come across and park up in a forward position and looks one of many eachway hopes. OUR CHARLIE BOY was good enough in a 56+ last start behind Volpe and drops back to a C1. PORT BEACH makes her debut for Peter Daly and tackles dirt racing for the first time in her life. Her grass form is excellent for this. The dirt is the query. WINGSONMYFEET should be a handy dirt commodity. Usually races forward and out of trouble. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 11 – 6 Suggested Bet – MISS BRIGHTON EACHWAY RACE 5 VOLPE returned in a blaze of glory for Ray Malpass and why wouldn’t she go close to winning again? She was doing her best work late and was running right away from them in the concluding stages. Looks like she is in for a good campaign and did beat home main rival Mystical Man last preparation in a 56+ 1700. MYSTICAL MAN looked worth taking on first-up over 1200m because he gets right back in his races and takes a long while to wind up. He was floundering at the 800 and going backwards but thought he got going late and hit the line well. 1400m might still be on the shorter side for him so we’ll wait one more meeting for him. JOHNNY REB had to duck back towards the inside and make a late run at them first-up. He looks the third wining chance. SOUTHERN TURF was the target of big late money first-up. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – VOLPE WIN RACE 6 WELD ran second to Test of Strength in the highest rating race of the meeting. With a 4kg drop in weight going to side up with WELD as the one to beat. Thought he kept coming behind Test of Strength and should park up in behind a genuine speed and enjoy a lovely run throughout. MORDOR should nearly cross and lead this. Might cop some pressure from Madrid Centro but from last season we saw that the faster they go the better Mordor goes. KLONDIKE KENNY ran well at the opening meeting and drops 4.5kg. MADRID CENTRO will always find a race each season. Numbers: 8 – 6 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – WELD WIN RACE 7 WOODBUG comes into this even off 54 days and was a winner at Kojonup off 45 days (with 68kg) only three starts ago. Simply disregard his grass form and focus in on his Carnarvon and dirt form. Last season he won a C3 1000 by 4.3L and then won a 56+ 000 by 1.9L. Can race well fresh and like Kramden at the opening meeting the loyal #Coops following will be out and about. Probably jumps double figures and drawn wide is a blessing in disguise. VERDIGRAS looks the obvious danger and full of respect for the lightly raced mare. Zach Tyler produced her to victory first-up off 416 days last campaign. Hard to beat and capable of going through the grades. CAN’TCATCHTHIS will be on her usual jump and run mission over the sprint trip. NOBEL TIME a mad one for novelties. Numbers: 3 – 8 – 5 – 12 Suggested Bet – WOODBUG EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,2,5,6,7,11 1,4,6 2,4,5,6,7,8 3,5,8 Market Market
