Nicoll Says Boys Should Get Around Him For Broome Cup Posted on August 18, 2017 | Posted by Julio Santarelli Chris Nicoll says top weight Boys Getaround Him is showing the right attributes to give the $135,000 XXXX Gold Broome Cup (2200m) a big shake on Saturday. Boys Getaround Him shapes as a top first Broome Cup ride for the Victorian-based hoop, winning four of his past five starts since transferring from Adelaide. Prepared in the Pilbara by Jaqueline Henderson, Boys Getaround Him commenced his winning spree at Port Hedland in June and he has kept on improving. He claimed the Marble Bar Cup (1600m) as favourite and won twice at Roebourne, including the Roebourne Cup when he easily accounted for Scarfone Star. Boys Getaround Him enters the Broome Cup as one of the form runners in the race, but with 59.5kg and against a depth-laden field he faces a searching test. However; Nicoll believes the son of Written Tycoon, who has pocketed nearly $250,000 in prize money, can rise to the challenge. “I wouldn’t be trading him for any other horse in the race,” Nicoll said. “You can’t deny the form he is in and he just knows how to find the line. “I think he has improved even further since the Roebourne Cup three weeks ago. “I worked him earlier in the week and he was just full of himself. “He has to carry weight, but he has done that all season. “I’ve got confidence that he is going to be right up there.” In a field of 14, Boys Getaround Him has drawn perfectly in barrier four. Nicoll says he expects to be in a prominent position at the top of the straight. “He is an easy horse to ride who jumps quickly and he will get a good run from the draw,” Nicoll said. “There will be speed on with Gloryland and I would like to be in the first four or five. “I should be there at the corner and that’s going to be my plan. “Hopefully I can get over the top of them.” Nicoll expects Darwin-based nine-year-old Pretty Blonde to provide the biggest opposition to Boys Getaround Him. The Kym Healy-trained mare is on the hunt for back-to-back Broome Cups after demolishing her rivals last year. She carries 58kg, a rise of 4kg from her success 12-months ago, but Nicoll says he can’t afford to take her lightly. “Pretty Blonde has been here before and got the job done,” Nicoll said. “She has to be hard to beat again.”
