Michael Heaton’s Sunday Bunbury Preview Posted on November 24, 2023November 24, 2023 | Posted by Michael Heaton RACE 1 Tough maiden to kick off the day. PLAYING QUEST ran 5th to Ancient Guidance on debut earlier in the year and held his ground to the line first up this prep when midfield behind Royal Statue and subsequent winner Rocket Juice. He looks much better suited stepping up to 1400m and the blinkers go on second up. OMERTA GRACE made some late ground along the rail on debut over 1420m and now CJP jumps aboard for his second-up assignment. GONDRINKIN hadn’t fired a shot until running a fast-finishing second at York last start. QUIET AMERICAN has trialled up well head of his debut but maps awkwardly from his wide alley. Numbers: 5 – 6 – 1 – 10 Suggested Bet – PLAYING QUEST WIN RACE 2 SECRECY is certainly knocking on the door with placings at his last 5 starts. He resumed first up, no trial over 1410m when flashing late to miss by a nose before finishing <1L off Autumn Rebel (races in the WA Guineas on Saturday) over 1500m last start. He’s racing like he’s looking for further now and the step to 1675m from a nice draw looks suitable. FLASH PADDY made good late ground when less than a length off Secrecy first up this prep and ground to the line over 1750m last start. He’s getting closer to breaking through and Pike jumps aboard but this looks an awkward setup for him a tricky draw. DARK MISSILE is another who is going particularly well at the moment and whilst the step to 1675m is probably as far as he wants, he can ride the speed for a long way. ROCKING SOCIETY caught the eye late on debut and now CJP jumps on. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 3 – 12 Suggested Bet – SECRECY WIN RACE 3 GET OUT MICK went around at $41 last start but finished only 2L off King’s Parade and within 1.5L off subsequent winners Trespassing and New Music. Prior to that he hit the line well behind Wicked Venom and he now has the addition of winkers from a favourable draw and map. TWIGGER is a very interesting runner. Undefeated in 3 400m trials to date when well-held in each of them and he’s drawn the inside on debut. Lou Luciani knows how to produce a winner off a 400m trial and Jason Whiting rode 4 winners last weekend, including the Colonel Reeves Stakes for Lou. ROYAL ACCOLADE has placed at 4 of his 6 starts to date and looks like enjoying another lovely run in transit. BLAZEN STAR joins Mitch Pateman’s yard and races first up, no trial. He caught the eye in a trial back in May when with his previous stable. Numbers: 3 – 10 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – GET OUT MICK EACH-WAY RACE 4 PLAY DICE trialled up impressively before starting a $2.30 favourite on debut and everything that could go wrong went wrong. She got held up multiple times in the straight and had nowhere to go until the race was all over but she looks as though she has her fair share of ability and with a trouble-free run she should make her presence felt. CITINO had no luck in his 2 runs last prep but hit the line super on both occasions. His recent trial was solid and Pike jumps aboard for the first time. HISTORY CAN WAIT finished off strongly in his recent trial and has drawn soft for his debut. LOST GRAVITY next best. Numbers: 12 – 4 – 10 – 1 Suggested Bet – PLAY DICE WIN RACE 5 MANGANUI trialled up very well before simply never seeing daylight first up. He got stopped in his tracks and had to restrain heavily but he was travelling strongly then made good late ground after missing the start second up. He now draws a gate and with a clean getaway he looks ready to break through. CIAO BLOOMY beat Manganui home last start and has placed at her last 3 outings. She’s knocking on the door for a first win. WIND WARRIOR won a recent Lark Hill trial in slow time but he lengthened nicely once balanced up and he’s drawn favourably for his debut. MAKES THE CUT does a few thing wrong and has drawn awkwardly but he’s still going well enough to be in contention. Numbers: 5 – 14 – 12 – 3 Suggested Bet – MANGANUI WIN RACE 6 SKY DUKE is well placed by Neville Parnham first up. His last 9 starts have been in Saturday grade (including a 1000m 3YO 62+ win) and he’s drawn to get the run of the race on the back of Rock This Town. His recent trial was solid and he should be hard to hold out late. ROCK THIS TOWN is very fast and won with a leg in the air first up. He’s finished in the money at 6 of his 7 starts to date and will take running down. UNIVERSAL PLAYBOY sat deep the trip when well beaten by Rock This Town first up but meets him 2kg better now and should get a more economical run in transit. MICHELADA was also forced to do it tough first up when off the track and running a gallant fourth. She drops in class here but looks destined to endure a similar run with 60kg. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – SKY DUKE WIN RACE 7 OUR NEMESIS is a lightly-raced 4YO who was scratched at the barriers on November 15 off the back of a strong maiden win. Both of his runs this prep have been super and he’s drawn beautifully to position up just behind the speed. SPEAK TO ME is a big, free-rolling type who looks like he’s probably better suited drawing out than in. He ran well first up over 1400m off a decent lay off when leading up the field at good sections and sticking on strongly then won with authority last start. NEW MUSIC is another last-start winner at this track/distance when displaying a strong turn of foot. She’ll likely be spotting the first two a decent head start in the run but she still looks a winning chance. CRUNCHY NUT looked as though he relished the rise to 1300m and clear galloping room in his last-start win at Northam after getting held up over 1000m first up. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 10 – 5 Suggested Bet – OUR NEMESIS WIN RACE 8 RUN PATTIE RUN finished stylishly to win on debut at Bunbury then stepped straight to Saturday grade where she was unsuited by the slow tempo and on-speed bias that day but still reeled off the fastest last 400m of the day to run a half-length second to the in-form The Boss Lady. She drops back in class here and there’s plenty of speed engaged so she can sit back and zap them late. IMPERALIZE resumes and ran some handy races last prep. He’s an honest type who maps to get a gun run and is likely to look the winner at some stage. DIAMOND ROCKS joins her fourth stable in the space of 8 starts. She’s shown glimpses throughout her career and Holly Watson has options from her inside alley. DISCO DONUT maps awkwardly from a tough draw and is likely a query at 1200m but he’s well placed in C3 company. His last 7 starts have been in Saturday grade, including a 66+ victory 13 months ago. Numbers: 11 – 2 – 10 – 1 Suggested Bet – RUN PATTIE RUN WIN RACE 9 VALLEY OF QUEENS drew 11/11 when settled last and held up in the straight before finding the line very strongly once clear 2 starts back and again finished hard to miss by the absolute barest of margins last time out. She stays at the same track, grade and distance and draws a better gate so she’ll hopefully be able to position up a bit closer. KISSES FROM KELLY was very brave first up when three-deep without cover the trip over 1400m and boxing on strongly to only be beaten a half-length. His form last prep was super consistent and he looks as though he’ll appreciate the rise to 1675m. BUCKEYE BULLET comes out of a huge times race where they went like the clappers and he finished less than a length second to the progressive I Love Your Smile. Interested to see where he gets from the tricky draw. SO LIKABLE was better when ridden on-speed last start but now steps from 1200m to 1675m. Numbers: 11 – 2 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – VALLEY OF QUEENS WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 2,3 2,3,5,10 1,2,5,10,11 2,4,11 Market Market
