Greg’s Belmont Preview Posted on August 5, 2016August 8, 2016 | Posted by Greg Hooper Greg Hooper’s Preview RACE 1 Very open three-year-old race to start the day. Both THE CELT and DAINTY TESS are off the quick back up from last week where there was little between them. Without any confidence I’ll go for the THE CELT to turn the tables. BADGE OF COURAGE has trialled well and is half to the gun filly Chantski. SWEET ORA will tuck in behind the speed and launch late. Numbers – 2 – 5 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – The Celt win RACE 2 GENERAL GROOVE drops sharply in grade after finishing midfield in the HG Bolton Sprint last week. He should appreciate the rise to 1400m and will get the favours from a good draw. FLYING ROAR is a bit of an enigma but he looks just about ready and if he jumps well he can lead and dictate. STOCKS is major chance again. PASEO DEL PRADO is capable of pulling out a big fresh run. Numbers – 1 – 5 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – General Groove and Flying Roar RACE 3 GANGBUSTER has impressed in both starts this campaign. He’ll settle about midfield and be very strong to the line. WILD GUST finished powerfully on debut. The rise to 1300m will suit. RICH RED leads and controls. NIGHTWATCHMAN has place claims. Numbers – 1 – 7 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – Gangbuster and Wild Gust RACE 4 There is little between SHALO and THUNDERCLAP NEWMAN. Going SHALO on the basis he may have a little more improvement left in him at his third run back from a spell. SENSO appears the other hope after a terrific run in the Belmont Classic. The mile suits. RAISING DUBAI next best. Numbers – 3 – 6- 9 – 8 Suggested Bet – Shalo win RACE 5 CHOCOLATE HOLIC is a horse coming through the grades. He was big in defeat first-up when attacking the line and just going under. The blinkers and Pike go on and the rise to 1400m will be ideal. COUNTERCAT should get an identical run as to what he enjoyed first-up. The rise in weight is the query. METEOROID looks just about ready and has drawn to get the run of the race for in form apprentice, Aaron Mitchell. ALL TOO MUCH next best. Numbers – 9 -2 -5 -6 Suggested Bet – Chocolate Holic win RACE 6 POUNAMU is a very talented type who resumes from a spell without a trial. If he can settle about midfield and get clear room approaching the straight he has the necessary finishing power to get over these. CHASING CHAOS was in career best form last preparation. He’s been tuned up with a very quiet trial. SECRET NOVA and LENIENCE will both be on the speed and can give a sight. Numbers – 5 – 4 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – Pounamu win RACE 7 RECOILED drifted noticeably in betting first-up suggesting he was in need of the run. If he is supported in betting he should improve sharply. STABLE SECRET is one galloper who appreciate the expected hot tempo. AUDIENCE has claims to make it a winning hat-trick. STRAVIGO has been given a freshen-up and the blinkers have been added to his gear. Numbers – 6 – 2 – 7 – 5 Suggested Bet – Recoiled and Stable Secret RACE 8 PRESENT ARMS gets his chance for a breakthrough win with Pike taking the ride. READY TO FIRE looks the clear danger. The 58.5kg is the concern. SOBRIQUET and I’M A BLUEBAGGER have place claims. Numbers – 3 – 2 – 7 – 6 Suggested Bet – Present Arms and Ready To Fire QUADDIE RACE 5 – 2, 5, 9 RACE 6 – 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 RACE 7 – 2, 5, 6, 7, 12 RACE 8 – 2, 3 Bet Now!
